Related Laws On Exotic And Native Wild Animals, Donald F. Stork Mar 1972

Related Laws On Exotic And Native Wild Animals, Donald F. Stork

Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 5th (1972)

This paper is submitted in an effort to acquaint the personnel of allied State agencies with related laws which control the public and private possession of live exotic and native wild animals. The need for this common knowledge of related laws by agencies with law enforcement responsibility is readily apparent when the annual number and related problems from imported or resident wild animals in California are examined. In addition to resident wild animal populations, millions of fish and thousands of mammals, birds, and reptiles enter California each year through the utilization of most methods of transportation. Most of these imported …

There were 1,405 lactation records of 336 cows at the Central Livestock Research- cum-Breeding Station, Haringhata, India from 1958 to 1968 used to estimate the potential dairy merit of Deshi cattle. This breed is native to northeast India and one of the smallest breeds in India (mature females 200 kg and males 250 kg).

Averages and standard deviations for milk yield (exclusive of that suckled), age of first calving, calving interval, lactation length, days open, and days dry were 412 ± 178 kg, 44.5 ± 6.8 months, 419 ± 90 days, 264 ± 81 days, 135 ± 86 days, and …

Eutrophication Factors In North Central Florida Lakes, H. D. Putnam, Patrick L. Brezonik, Earl E. Shannon Feb 1972

Eutrophication Factors In North Central Florida Lakes, H. D. Putnam, Patrick L. Brezonik, Earl E. Shannon

United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications

A small Florida lake has been receiving a regimen of nutrient addition equivalent to 500 mg/m3-yr N and 43 mg/m3-yr P since 1967. Data has been accumulated through 1969. The effect on the lacustrine ecosystem of various biogenes includes production by primary producers, species diversity of plankton and certain production estimates at the secondary trophic level using natural populations of planktivorous fish. Plankton production using isotopic carbon is ca. 58 grms/m2-yr; Species diversity is slowly changing to a mixed chlorophycean and yellow-green. Biomass of benthic green filamentous types has increased slightly. Nutrient addition has …

Residential Environment Studies Relevant For Research Programs. An Annotated Bibliography. Economic, Aesthetic And Environmental Aspects Of Family Housing, Florence S. Walker

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins

At the time NCR-54 Committee was activated in 1966, the membership was charged with recommending new directions for housing research by home economists and others associated with Agricultural Experiment Stations. Basic to this charge, the committee determined to compile a list of housing research publications which had had an impact on the teaching and research responsibilities as perceived by the committee members. The compilation took the form of abstracts of research on selected aspects of housing: i.e., design and aesthetic, physical-physiological and socioeconomic, as well as influential general studies.

An Argument For The Open Ocean Siting Of Coastal Thermal Electric Plants, Clarence M. Tarzwell Jan 1972

An Argument For The Open Ocean Siting Of Coastal Thermal Electric Plants, Clarence M. Tarzwell

United States Environmental Protection Agency: Publications

A great deal of research is yet to be done before we will definitely know all the effects of thermal electric generating plants. It is evident, however, that the chlorination of the intake water is definitely lethal to a high percentage of planktonic and other organisms; that thermal shock is detrimental to some of the more sensitive forms; that the continued exposure to high temperatures after thermal shock is lethal to many forms, especially the zooplankton; that the screening and turbulence in such plants is lethal to larval fishes and several invertebrates, and that immense amounts of waters are put …

Miocene Amphicyonids (Mammalia, Carnivora) From The Agate Spring Quarries, Sioux County, Nebraska, Robert M. Hunt Jr. Jan 1972

Miocene Amphicyonids (Mammalia, Carnivora) From The Agate Spring Quarries, Sioux County, Nebraska, Robert M. Hunt Jr.

Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications

The Miocene late Arikareean land mammal "age" is largely defined by the faunal assemblage from the Agate Spring Quarries and other nearby localities in the Harrison Formation of Sioux County, Nebraska. Amphicyonid carnivores of the genera Cynelos Jourdan and Ysengrinia Ginsburg were previously known only from European Oligocene and Miocene deposits. These genera are now known from the Harrison Formation of Sioux and Box Butte counties, western Nebraska, and therefore the late Arikareean fauna now includes three amphicyonids: Cynelos sp., (?) Ysengrinia sp., Daphoenodon superbus Peterson. The stage of evolution of these carnivores suggests a correlation of the Agate Spring …

A Misuse Of Statistics And Future Damages, Gregory Searson Jan 1972

A Misuse Of Statistics And Future Damages, Gregory Searson

Nebraska Law Review

An injured party may generally recover damages for various types of personal injuries in tort litigation. In particular, a plaintiff is allowed to recover for damages reasonably expected in the future. This Comment is concerned primarily with the use of statistics in calculating future earning capacity, but it will also examine other problems encountered in attempting to measure prospective damages. Initially, the Comment outlines and criticizes the mechanics involved in the application of the "present approach." Then it analyzes the use of statistics and notes that the present formula used in calculating future damages leads to a consistent overstatement of …

Are Legal Aid Societies, Lawyer Referral Services, And Group Legal Services Adequate Under The Code Of Professional Responsibility, Jeffrey Stoehr Jan 1972

Are Legal Aid Societies, Lawyer Referral Services, And Group Legal Services Adequate Under The Code Of Professional Responsibility, Jeffrey Stoehr

Nebraska Law Review

While other professions have attempted to make their services more readily available in recent years, the legal profession's availability has remained relatively static. Today there is a considerable lack of legal services for a great majority of the people. This lack of available services is most critical in the lower and middle income classes. Only recently have any remedies to this problem been suggested and actively undertaken. Legal aid societies, lawyer referral services, and group legal service plans are the three primary methods used to combat the problem. Legal aid societies are primarily for lower income individuals while group legal …

Professional Responsibility And The Availability Of Legal Services, Stephen H. Lewis Jan 1972

Professional Responsibility And The Availability Of Legal Services, Stephen H. Lewis

Nebraska Law Review

Lawyers for People of Moderate Means, by Barlow F. Christenson, presents some of the problems of making legal services available to a greater number of people. The wealthy have no difficulty in obtaining counsel, and legal services are available to the poor through various legal aid programs, but people who are unable to qualify for legal aid but who cannot afford the services of an attorney must go without one. Christenson suggests methods to increase the efficiency of the private attorney's practice and thus reduce the cost of legal service. He also suggests alternatives to the traditional private practice, …

Informed Consent: Some Problems Revisited, Arthur J. Shartsis Jan 1972

Informed Consent: Some Problems Revisited, Arthur J. Shartsis

Nebraska Law Review

It is no longer disputed that the physician has a duty to inform his patient of the nature of the treatment proposed by the physician and the risks involved in that treatment. Because of this required disclosure the patient is better able to "determine what shall be done with his own body" by making an informed decision whether or not to undergo treatment. Yet, both the law and medicine are far from the "last say" concerning certain particularly difficult problems which arise within the scope of the physician's communication to the patient and the patient's assent to treatment. In this …

The Private Lawyer And Public Responsibility—The Profession’S Armageddon, Marna S. Tucker Jan 1972

The Private Lawyer And Public Responsibility—The Profession’S Armageddon, Marna S. Tucker

Nebraska Law Review

The vast and sophisticated needs of the public cannot be met through a dependence on sheer voluntarism and moral responsibility, which is the state of professional response at this time. If the legal process is to provide an adequate forum for legitimate claims, the profession must redefine its entire system for delivery of legal assistance. Such legal planning would necessarily have to include an appraisal of the legal system itself, with an examination of who has access to the system, the means for implementing access, and provisions for remuneration for those who assist in providing access. Unless such a comprehensive …

Removing The Unfit Lawyer, Charles F. Adams Jan 1972

Removing The Unfit Lawyer, Charles F. Adams

Nebraska Law Review

In my annual address to the Nebraska State Bar Association in October 1969, I suggested that much had been accomplished by the organized bar to secure the continued service of competent judges and the removal of incompetent judges and that little or no progress had been made in the area of removing the unfit lawyer. This problem impinges upon disciplinary procedures and the effect of the new Code of Professional Responsibility, which outlines the modern concept of the obligation of a lawyer to discharge his professional duties.

Geography Program: Faculty Publications

This report concerns Malone, a problem area of Lincoln, Nebraska, that is undergoing considerable change as a result of external influences from the city and the university. In 1971, a graduate Seminar in Urban Geography devoted a semester to the spatial aspects of blight In cities and as a part of this course prepared short reports on specific aspects of Lincoln's example of a blighted zone. The point of departure for the field work was the conceptual framework of the transition zone as it was developed by Burgess in the 1920's and refined by others at a later time, especially …
