This document contains the Greek texts of the two known works by Autolycus of Pitane: ΠΕΡΙ ΚΙΝΟΥΜΕΝΗΣ ΣΦΑΙΡΑΣ and ΠΕΡΙ ΕΠΙΤΟΛΩΝ ΚΑΙ ΔΥΣΕΩΝ, known in Latin as De sphaera quae movetur and De ortibus et occasibus, and in English as On the Moving Sphere and On Risings and Settings.

Autolycus was a contemporary of Aristotle (384–322 BCE) and his works are thought to have been completed in Athens within the years 335 and 300 BCE, making him also a rough contemporary of Euclid of Alexandria (fl. c. 300 BCE).

The Status Of Mathematics Teachers In Nebraska High Schools, 1946-1947, Dorothy D. Eddy May 1949

The Status Of Mathematics Teachers In Nebraska High Schools, 1946-1947, Dorothy D. Eddy

Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)

The problem of this study was to determine the status of the mathematics teachers in Nebraska high schools for the school year 1946-1947. Data were gathered regarding the positions held by mathematics teachers, the sex of mathematics teachers, the salary, experience, tenure, teaching load, combination of mathematics with other subject-matter fields, activities sponsored, and the preparation for teaching of mathematics teachers. It was considered of importance to determine the status of the teacher in terms of size of school enrollment.

Data were collected from the reports of teachers and administrators to the Registrar’s office, University of Nebraska, and also to …

The Imagery Of Emily Dickinson, Ruth Flanders Mcnaughton Jan 1949

The Imagery Of Emily Dickinson, Ruth Flanders Mcnaughton

University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)

Emily Dickinson's poetry is now accepted by most students of literature as an American classic. In this brief study, I have tried to show one of the reasons why this has come about. After her first two volumes appeared in 1890 and 1891, many of the reviews were extremely critical. Typical of these is one which appeared in the Atlantic Monthly of January, 1892.

If Miss Dickinson's disjecta membra are poems, then Shakespeare's prolonged imposition should be exposed without further loss of time, and Lord Tennyson ought to be advised of the error of his ways before it is too …

Canning Meats, Relishes, Fruit Spreads : Extension Circular 9-41-2, Jessie Greene Jan 1948

Canning Meats, Relishes, Fruit Spreads : Extension Circular 9-41-2, Jessie Greene

Nebraska 4-H Clubs: Historical Materials and Publications

The first year of the 4-H food preservation project teaches approved methods of canning fruits and vegetables and stresses the foods needed for good health. The second year aims to continue this study of nutrition and takes up the canning of meats, relishes and fruit spreads. Some canning is also included in the cooking club projects. It may be practical to dry, brine, freeze or store some foods, and club members may substitute up to one-half of the canning requirement with dried, brined, frozen or stored foods.

Mima Mounds: A Reply, Victor B. Scheffer Jan 1948

Mima Mounds: A Reply, Victor B. Scheffer

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

Major Grant believes that gophers behave in one way, and we believe that they behave in another-or we admit that we do not know exactly how they behave. I have plainly stated (1947, PP. 293, 294) that our evidence is indirect; that we have not seen gophers building a giant mound; that we do not know whether mound building is a contemporary or a historic process; and that we do not know whether the stimulus for mound building is a hardpan or a high water table or both.

Our main contentions are that mounds of the Mima type occur only …
