Hydrogen And Halogen Interactions With 2,6 Dimethoxypyridine, Margaret Manning Stucky
Hydrogen And Halogen Interactions With 2,6 Dimethoxypyridine, Margaret Manning Stucky
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Raman spectroscopy and computational chemistry are used to explore the effects of non-covalent interactions with the nitrogen-containing building block 2,6-dimethoxypyridine. Previously, we have shown that hydrogen and halogen bonding with simple nitrogen containing heterocycles leads to partial charge transfer and evolving spectroscopic properties. Adding electron donating and withdrawing groups to azabenzenes should allow us then to tune these interactions. Here, 2,6-dimethoxypyridine (DMOP) with its two methoxy substituents offers an excellent opportunity to study the effect of electron withdrawal on spectroscopic observables. Unlike in previous studies, however, hydrogen bonding led to no discernable experimental spectroscopic changes in mixtures of DMOP and …
Giving And Receiving Social Support Among Individuals With Migraine, Lauren Thaxter
Giving And Receiving Social Support Among Individuals With Migraine, Lauren Thaxter
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Migraine is among the most common and burdensome neurological disorders in the United States, significantly impairing daily functioning. Psychological variables such as depression, anxiety, stress, and fear of pain are known to exacerbate migraine experiences, while receiving social support has been broadly associated with improved health outcomes. Although giving and receiving social support are protective for physical and mental health, their specific influence on migraine outcomes remains underexplored. This study investigated experimentally whether giving social support increased pain tolerance and reduced pain intensity as measured using a cold pressor test among 117 individuals with migraine. This study also examined the …
Examining The Relationship Between Moral Injury, Belief In A Just World, And Substance Abuse In Military Veterans, Alyssa Mae Wood
Examining The Relationship Between Moral Injury, Belief In A Just World, And Substance Abuse In Military Veterans, Alyssa Mae Wood
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Combat-exposed veterans and military service members are at high risk of experiencing mental health problems. Although moral injury is recognized as a unique contributor to mental health challenges in this population, the relationship between changes in world belief, PTSD, and substance use remains unexplored. This cross-sectional quantitative study investigated the relationship among moral injury symptoms, changes in belief in a just world (BJW) and belief in an unjust world (BUW), and substance use in a sample of 122 combat-exposed U.S. military Veterans and service members.
Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that changes in BUW following potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) significantly …
Polylactic Acid-Based Sustainable Hybrid Nanobiocomposites, Utsab Roy Ayan
Polylactic Acid-Based Sustainable Hybrid Nanobiocomposites, Utsab Roy Ayan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Optimized extrusion melt-blending of polylactic acid (PLA) polymer with a minor biopolymeric phase, polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT), and compatibilized with random ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate terpolymer (EMA-GMA, Trademark: Lotader® AX-8900) led to an outstanding improvement in mechanical properties. At the non-compatibilized PLA/PBAT (80/20) blend point, significant enhancement (~4500%) in toughness and elongation-at-break was already obtained without compromising any elastic properties. Lotader content at 2 wt.% was determined to be optimal by numerical optimization methodology to maximize toughness and elongation-at-break. Upon adding the compatibilizer, the original phase-separated morphology of the blends changed from PBAT quasi-spherical domains to nearly elongated elliptical ones. The …

The Implications Of The Menstrual Cycle On Upper Extremity Function And Injury Risk, Kaitlyn Ashley Armstrong
The Implications Of The Menstrual Cycle On Upper Extremity Function And Injury Risk, Kaitlyn Ashley Armstrong
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are the leading cause of time lost from work in the healthcare industry (US Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2022). Women account for 75 percent of the total employment in hospitals (BLS, 2022). It is important to identify key risk factors that may be contributing to the high rates of injury in this sector. Females bring a variety of unique factors into account, and understanding these factors could be critical for improving individual health and the burden placed on the system due to absenteeism resulting from injury. The cyclical hormonal fluctuations that occur over a menstrual cycle …
Safety Effectiveness Of Unsignalized Restricted Crossing U-Turn (Rcut) Intersections In Mississippi Using Empirical Bayes Before After Study, Gaurav Aryal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
At-grade intersections on high-speed highways can be hazardous, particularly where lower-speed vehicles from minor roads must cross fast-moving traffic on major roads. To address this, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) converted more than 20 unsignalized rural and urban intersections to the Restricted Crossing U‐Turn (RCUT) configuration between 2012 and 2022. This study provides the first before-after safety evaluation of these implementations, applying three analytical approaches: naïve before-after annual crash frequency comparison, an Improved Prediction Method (that accounts for changes in duration and AADT in before vs. after period), and a rigorous Empirical Bayes (EB) framework considering two definitions of …
Levee Breach Analysis Using Numerical Simulation Aided By Machine Learning, Mudhaffer Alqudah
Levee Breach Analysis Using Numerical Simulation Aided By Machine Learning, Mudhaffer Alqudah
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation presents a multi-faceted framework for the prediction of geotechnical and hydraulic failure mechanisms in earthen structures, with a focus on levees and embankments. The study integrates laboratory testing, numerical modeling, and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the assessment and forecasting of levee performance under static and dynamic loading conditions.
The first component of the research applies various machine learning (ML) algorithms to predict Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) of soils using basic geotechnical parameters. Experimental data from lab-tested soil mixtures were used to train and compare models including Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Gradient Boosting, Random Forests, K-Nearest Neighbors, Support …
Les Conditions De Vie De La Classe Ouvrière Dans Les Chefs-D’ Œeuvre De Ousmane Sembène, Sawel Awuni
Les Conditions De Vie De La Classe Ouvrière Dans Les Chefs-D’ Œeuvre De Ousmane Sembène, Sawel Awuni
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Francophone African literature emerged as a vehicle for criticism of the colonial system, subsequently shifting its focus to neocolonialism as a new stage of imperialism. Literature and film served as instruments for critiquing imperialist structures, which engendered societal issues and fostered division among Africans. This study examines how Sembène’s books and films satirize society and their continued relevance to contemporary issues in the countries and cities depicted in these literary and cinematic works. To conduct this study, two books and a film were selected as primary sources: Le Docker Noir, Les Bouts de bois de Dieu, and “La Noire de…”. …
