An Attachment Model For Assessing Suicidal Risk, Keely J. Hope, Sondra Smith-Adcock
An Attachment Model For Assessing Suicidal Risk, Keely J. Hope, Sondra Smith-Adcock
Journal of Counseling Research and Practice
A model for addressing suicidal risk utilizing attachment theory is addressed. Risk factors for suicide have generally been conceptualized at the level of individual characteristics rather than relational dynamics. Combining Shneidman’s common characteristics of a suicidal person with Bowlby’s attachment theory provides for a more relational view of suicide-related behaviors and communications. Considering high rates of suicide, especially among some population groups, it is important to have a more comprehensive framework for suicidal risk from which to treat suicidal clients.

Assessment Courses In Counselor Education, Donna M. Gibson, Leah J. Mccallum
Journal of Counseling Research and Practice
Pre- and post-surveys of an assessment class within the counselor education curricula were used to assess the thoughts, feelings, and concerns of counselors-in-training enrolled in the class. A mixed-methods study was con-ducted to assess themes in responses and examine comfort and competence with the concept of assessment. Results provide counselor educators insight into possible factors that affect and alter the perspective of counselors-in-training before and after taking an assessment class. Recommendations and implications for future re-search are discussed.

The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions R(D)=B(B→Dτ-ντ)/B(B→Dℓ-νℓ) and R(D∗)=B(B→D∗τ-ντ)/B(B→D∗ℓ-νℓ), where ℓ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the standard model predictions, and might hint at a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of R(D) and R(D∗), based on a data sample containing 772×106 BB events recorded at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. In this analysis the tag-side B meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side τ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. …

The Effect Of Child-Centered Play Therapy On Academic Achievement With Normal Functioning School Children, Pedro Blanco, Ryan Holliman, Janelle Farnam, Alexandria Pena
Journal of Counseling Research and Practice
This examination of normal functioning second grade students investigated the effect of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) on academic achievement. The treatment group was provided with biweekly play therapy sessions consisted of 30 minutes for a period of eight weeks. The results demonstrated the second graders who participated within the study (n=27) exhibited a statistically significant increase on the Woodcock Johnson III Total Brief Achievement Score (Mather & Woodcock, 2001) in comparison to the children within the waitlist control group (n=23). Findings advocate the usage of CCPT as an intervention for academic achievement.

Background: Age-associated decline in cognition and balance may cause severe ability loss for daily living activities among middle-aged and older adults. The relationship between cognition and balance in this aging population remains to be explored. Objective: The present study Is exploratory in nature and aimed to examine the relationship between balance (both static and dynamic components) and global cognitive function among middle-aged and older adults through Tai Chi (TC) practice as a research avenue. Methods: A short-term (12 weeks) intervention of TC was conducted among middle-aged and …

Investigation Of Morphological Changes In The Tamsui River Estuary Using An Integrated Coastal And Estuarine Processes Model, Tung Chou Hsieh, Yan Ding, Keh Chia Yeh, Ren Kai Jhong

© 2020 by the authors. This study is to investigate morphological changes in the Tamsui River Estuary in Taiwan driven by multiple physical processes, such as river flows, tides, waves, and storm surges, and then to study the impacts of sediment flushing operated at the Shihmen reservoir upstream on the river estuary. An integrated coastal and estuarine processes model (CCHE2D-Coast) (Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering Two-Dimensional-Coast) was validated by simulating these physical processes in the estuary driven by three historical typhoons in 2008. The site-specifically validated model was then applied to simulate morphological changes in the estuary in response …

Strategies aiming to promote weight loss usually include anything that results in an increase in energy expenditure (exercise) or a decrease in energy intake (diet). However, the probability of losing weight is low and the probability of sustained weight loss is even lower. Herein, we bring some questions and suggestions about the topic, with a focus on exercise interventions. Based on the current evidence, we should look at how metabolism changes in response to interventions instead of counting calories, so we can choose more efficient models that can account for the …

Teaching Leaders: Culturally Responsive Teaching And The Achievement Gap, Kendall Kern
Honors Theses
As the amount of students in the classroom continues to grow, the achievement gap becomes increasingly larger between white students and students of color across the United States of America. This literature review explores the current literature on how culturally responsive teaching impacts the achievement gap. The achievement gap is defined as the gap in academic performance between white students and students of color. Throughout history, the achievement gap has been enforced and widened by racism, stereotypes, low student engagement, and a lack of critical thinking skills. The literature proves that culturally responsive teaching can increase engagement and critical thinking …

© 2020 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. We report the first observation of the radiative decay of the ψ(1S) into a charmonium state. The significance of the observed signal of ψ(1S)→γχc1 is 6.3 standard deviations including systematics. The branching fraction is calculated to be B[ψ(1S)→γχc1]=[4.7-1.8+2.4(stat)-0.5+0.4(sys)×10-5]. We also searched for ψ(1S) radiative decays into χc0,2 and ηc(1S,2S), and set upper limits on their branching fractions. These results are obtained from a 24.9 fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at a center-of-mass energy equal to the ψ(2S) mass using ψ(1S) tagging by …

Graduate Student Council Research Grants
Overview: I am Pratap Bohara--a fourth year PhD student in the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at the University of Mississippi. I define myself as a dedicated research fellow with more than seven years of experience in the field of Geology and Geological Engineering. The proposed study will integrate geology, geochemistry, and surface chemistry to advance understanding of oil and gas behavior within the Woodford Shale of Oklahoma.
Intellectual Merit: Although this unit has abundant kerogen, total organic carbon (TOC), a high hydrogen index (HI), a low oxygen index (OI), and is thermally mature seemingly making reservoir economic but …

Using a data sample of 772×106 BB pairs collected on the Ï'(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e-collider, we report the observation of B0→ppπ+π- A nd the first observation of B+→ppπ+π0. We measure a decay branching fraction of (0.83±0.17±0.17)×10-6 in B0→ppπ+π-for Mπ+π-<1.22 GeV/c2 with a significance of 5.5 standard deviations. The contribution from B0→ppK0 is excluded. We measure a decay branching fraction of (4.58±1.17±0.67)×10-6 for B+→ppπ+π0 with Mπ+π0<1.3 GeV/c2 with a significance of 5.4 standard deviations. We study the difference of the Mpp distributions in B0→ppπ+π- A nd B+→ppπ+π0.
