© 2020 MDPI AG. All rights reserved. In the development of geographic information-based applications for mobile devices, achieving better access speed and visual effects is the main research aim. In this paper, we propose a new geographic data display method based on Geohash, namely GeohashTile, to improve the performance of traditional geographic data display methods in data indexing, data compression, and the projection of different granularities. First, we use the Geohash encoding system to represent coordinates, as well as to partition and index large-scale geographic data. The data compression and tile encoding is accomplished by Geohash. Second, to realize a …

The accretion of the Wyoming, Hearne, and Superior Provinces to form the Archean core of western Laurentia occurred rapidly in the Paleoproterozoic. Missing from Hoffman’s (1988) original rapid aggregation model was the Medicine Hat block (MHB). The MHB is a structurally distinct, complex block of Precambrian crystalline crust located between the Archean Wyoming Craton and the Archean Hearne Province and overlain by an extensive Phanerozoic cover. It is distinguished on the basis of geophysical evidence and limited geochemical data from crustal xenoliths and drill core. New U‐Pb ages and Lu‐Hf data …

© 2020 authors. We present the results of the first Dalitz plot analysis of the decay D0→K-π+η. The analysis is performed on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 953 fb-1 collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+e- KEKB collider. The Dalitz plot is well described by a combination of the six resonant decay channels K̄∗(892)0η, K-a0(980)+, K-a2(1320)+, K̄∗(1410)0η, K∗(1680)-π+ and K2∗(1980)-π+, together with Kπ and Kη S-wave components. The decays K∗(1680)-→K-η and K2∗(1980)-→K-η are observed for the first time. We measure ratio of the branching fractions, B(D0→K-π+η)B(D0→K-π+)=0.500±0.002(stat)±0.020(syst)±0.003(BPDG). Using the Dalitz fit result, the ratio B(K∗(1680)→Kη)B(K∗(1680)→Kπ) …

© 2020 authors. We report searches for B0→invisible and B0→invisible+γ decays, where the energy of the photon is required to be larger than 0.5 GeV. These results are obtained from a 711 fb-1 data sample that contains 772×106BB¯ pairs and was collected near the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We observe no significant signal for either decay and set upper limits on their branching fractions at 90% confidence level of B(B0→invisible)<7.8×10-5 and B(B0→invisible+γ)<1.6×10-5.

© 2020 The Authors. Ecology and Evolution published by John Wiley & Sons Ltd. Neotropical wood-eating catfishes (family Loricariidae) can occur in diverse assemblages with multiple genera and species feeding on the same woody detritus. As such, they present an intriguing system in which to examine the influence of host species identity on the vertebrate gut microbiome as well as to determine the potential role of gut bacteria in wood digestion. We characterized the gut microbiome of two co-occurring catfish genera and four species: Panaqolus albomaculatus, Panaqolus gnomus, Panaqolus nocturnus, and Panaque bathyphilus, as well as that of submerged wood …

Toward Freedom: A Reading Of The National Memorial For Peace And Justice, Margaret Pless
Study the South
The National Memorial for Peace and Justice opened in Montgomery, Alabama in 2018 to commemorate the black victims of lynching in the United States. The memorial’s monuments are unique because they resist the static, status quo understandings of history that so many of our monuments perpetuate. The memorial invites visitors to face disturbing truths in the hope of fostering reconciliation. Will it help us remember and reconcile as a nation? Montgomery is home to other monuments that undermine the history the memorial presents.

© Copyright © 2020 Tielbeek and Boutwell. A widely replicated finding across the behavioral sciences is that antisocial behaviors correlate with an array of health problems. Less clear, however, is the precise nature of this association. There is reason to suspect that a direct causal link exists between incarceration—a consequence of some antisocial behaviors—and certain negative health outcomes, for instance. However, it might be the case that broader phenotypes like antisocial behavior may correlate with certain health and physiological traits at a genomic level. We explore this possibility from a theoretical vantage point, while also presenting some preliminary data from …

Radical Togetherness: African-American Literature And Abolition Pedagogy At Parchman And Beyond, Patrick Elliot Alexander
Prison-to-College Pipeline Program Publications (Open Access)
This article makes the case that the student-centered learning paradigm that I have aimed to establish at Parchman/Mississippi State Penitentiary as a member of a college-in-prison program represents a prison abolition pedagogy that builds on Martin Luther King and Angela Y. Davis’s coalitional models of abolition work. Drawing from Davis’s abolition-framed conception of teaching in jails and prisons as expressed in her autobiography and her critical prison studies text Are Prisons Obsolete?, I argue that the learning environments that I create collaboratively with students at Parchman similarly respond to incarcerated students’ institution-specific concerns and African-American literary interests in ways that …
Reliable Extraction Of Energy Landscape Properties From Critical Force Distributions, Sudeep Adhikari, K. S. D. Beach
Reliable Extraction Of Energy Landscape Properties From Critical Force Distributions, Sudeep Adhikari, K. S. D. Beach

The structural dynamics of a biopolymer is governed by a process of diffusion through its conformational energy landscape. In pulling experiments using optical tweezers, features of the energy landscape can be extracted from the probability distribution of the critical force at which the polymer unfolds. The analysis is often based on rate equations having Bell-Evans form, although it is understood that this modeling is inadequate and leads to unreliable landscape parameters in many common situations. Dudko et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 108101 (2006)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.96.108101] have emphasized this critique and proposed an alternative form that includes an additional shape parameter (and …

Predicting Support For Oil Industry Regulatory Policy Alternatives During The North Dakota Oil Boom, Curtis W. Stofferahn, Jessica Schad
Journal of Rural Social Sciences
Given the lax regulatory response of the North Dakota state government during the most recent oil boom in the Bakken Shale, a better understanding of how to frame alternative regulation policies for the general public is needed. A survey of North Dakota residents in 2015 indicates that attitudes towards the oil industry, regulation, property rights, and messaging are associated with policy receptivity. Thus, in framing policy messages, focus should be on confirming what the public already knows about oil industry conduct and its opposition to regulation. Individuals who are more favorable to regulation and have an unfavorable attitude towards the …

© 2020 The Authors. Maize is a cultigen of global economic importance, but when it first became a staple grain in the Americas, was unknown and contested. Here, we report direct isotopic dietary evidence from 52 radiocarbon-dated human skeletons from two remarkably well-preserved rock-shelter contexts in the Maya Mountains of Belize spanning the past 10,000 years. Individuals dating before ∼4700 calendar years before present (cal B.P.) show no clear evidence for the consumption of maize. Evidence for substantial maize consumption (∼30% of total diet) appears in some individuals between 4700 and 4000 cal B.P. Isotopic evidence after 4000 cal B.P. …

Despite meta-analytic work on algebra instruction and calls for meta-syntheses of mathematics education topics, little has been done to synthesize the corpus of qualitative mathematics education research in algebra. The purpose of this meta-synthesis is to summarize the techniques teachers use to elicit algebraic thinking from students with mathematics difficulty or disability in the mathematics and special education literature. Although both mathematics and special educators used student-centered and collaborative techniques to encourage students to share algebraic …

© 2020 by the authors. Dynamic correlation is the correlation between two time series across time. Two approaches that currently exist in neuroscience literature for dynamic correlation estimation are the sliding window method and dynamic conditional correlation. In this paper, we first show the limitations of these two methods especially in the presence of extreme values. We present an alternate approach for dynamic correlation estimation based on a weighted graph and show using simulations and real data analyses the advantages of the new approach over the existing ones. We also provide some theoretical justifications and present a framework for quantifying …

(1) Background: Increasing tongue and lip strength may help improve various speech and swallowing disorders, but it is unclear if instrumentalists who use these muscle groups for long periods of time have greater strength and endurance compared to controls. It is also unclear if instrumentalists can more accurately estimate various exercise intensities. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in lip and tongue strength and endurance between instrumentalists and non-instrumentalists (controls). A secondary purpose was to assess differences in ability to estimate various exercise intensities between the two groups. …

This work demonstrates that two systematic errors, coherent betatron oscillations (CBO) and muon losses, can be reduced through application of radio frequency (RF) electric fields, which ultimately increases the sensitivity of the muon g - 2 experiments. As the ensemble of polarized muons goes around a weak focusing storage ring, their spin precesses, and when they decay through the weak interaction, μ+ → e+ νeν-μ, the decay positrons are detected by electromagnetic calorimeters. In addition to the expected exponential decay …
