My experience with the Rivers Institute and water has helped me to bring more of myself to the table in roles of leadership. The most recent module of the Environmental Justice Academy (EJA) serves as an excellent example of this. Katie, another Stew, and I have assisted the steering team by planning and facilitating high-energy icebreakers to open the second day of the monthly modules.

Ever since I was a little girl, the water is something that has always inspired me. My entire life has revolved around various bodies of water that have shaped who I am today. When I was young, my family would go to Topsail Island, NC and my cousins and I spent hours of our lives exploring the shores of the Atlantic. As I got older my family spent most of our time around lake Pymatuning in western Pennsylvania. My sister and I spent more time in the water than out, completely convinced we were mermaids. The water has become an …

As a journalist, I have always enjoyed getting a scoop. As an ice cream fan, I recently got a scoop that turned out to have a chilling effect: it’s hard to eat this sweet treat when the air temperature is colder than your ice cream.

Preparation, Cure, And Characterization Of Cyanate Ester-Epoxy Blends, Donald A. Klosterman
Chemical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications
Cyanate ester resins are often blended with lower cost epoxy monomers in order to modify the cost, toughness, and processing characteristics. There are also several choices of catalysts that can be used to improve processing, namely by reducing the cure temperature. This study was undertaken to illustrate how a designed experiment approach can be used to systematically investigate a wide range of material combinations and illuminate the basic cure behavior of some simple cyanate ester – epoxy blend combinations. Two commercial cyanate ester resin products were obtained. Each was blended with a bisphenol F based epoxy resin at two different …
