Simulation Of The Scattered Em Field Of A Rotating Conducting Cylinder Using Static Data, Esmail M. M. Abuhdima, Robert Penno

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

The effect of the rotation of a very good conducting cylinder on the backscattered field will be investigated where the incident wave is considered as a plane wave in both polarizations (E-wave and H-wave). Previous work has explained that rotation or vibration of the object may induce phase changes of the scattered signal. Modulation during rotation or vibration is referred to as micro-Doppler effect. Also, the effect of the rotation of a conducting cylinder was investigated by many researchers in the past using the Galilean transformation. These analyses conclude that the effect of rotation does not exist in the case …

Coffee In All Its Glory, Anne Green

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

Coffee is not a mere beverage to be swilled like beer. It must be savored. Drinking coffee is a tradition, an experience, an event. For some it is a ticket to mellow, for others a temporary high. I love coffee. When my kids were younger and wanted something very badly, they'd say, "Pretty please, with coffee on top!"

Roesch Library Faculty Presentations

In 2014, a university’s housing and residence life department implemented a program to provide students with a series of learning goals to master by graduation, including authorship, interculturalism, community living and more.

The program is connected to the housing assignment process and is called PATH, “Points Accumulated Towards Housing.” By participating in approved events, students accumulate “points” and secure higher priority within the housing assignments process.

This university’s library participates as a campus program partner by hosting PATH-eligible events. As a result, student engagement at library events has exceeded expectations. This poster will share attendance and event data from 20 …

The War Of Pranks, Ira Scott Levin Jun 2017

The War Of Pranks, Ira Scott Levin

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

My dad and I spent time watching black-and-white classic movies as well as building, and meticulously painting, classic Universal monster models. We would read stories by H.G. Wells and H.P. Lovecraft. When reading the latter, my dad would frequently consult a dictionary so that we both understood and benefitted from the textured obtuse vocabulary. That stretched my imagination with imagery comparing, for example, a hillside to the gigantic toe of a corpse. Our shared enthusiasm for the fantastic and grotesque unwittingly got us into a war of pranks.

Love At First Listen: I'M Crazy About A Dog Who Doesn't Exist, Ann Green

Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop Blog

It all started at the library one afternoon as I cruised the audio book section for something to keep me company on my exciting drives to and from the grocery store, the gym, CVS, the gas station and other exotic destinations. There they were: eight books by Spencer Quinn, featuring private investigator Bernie Little and his faithful canine companion - partner really - Chet. Together they operate the Little Detective Agency. I was intrigued by the fact that Chet narrates the books. He doesn't actually talk to anyone; he sort of thinks the story to the reader, or something like …

A book can make a wonderful gift for a child. When a mother takes her daughter into a bookstore to help her choose her first chapter book, it can be a lovely occasion for both of them. Unless you're talking about a mother and daughter that I know. For them, the occasion wasn't so great. The girl was nine. The mother chose a book, and the daughter complained. Oh, how she hated the looks of it. She told her mother the cover was hideous, the pictures were boring, and the whole thing had too many pages. She griped. She vowed …

Review Of Optical Detection Of Single Molecules Beyond The Diffraction And Diffusion Limit Using Plasmonic Nanostructures, Farzia Karim, Todd B. Smith, Chenglong Zhao

Physics Faculty Publications

Single-molecule detection has become a unique and indispensable tool for the study of molecular motions and interactions at the single-molecule level. Unlike ensemble measurement where the information is averaged, single-molecule analysis yields invaluable information on both the individual molecular properties and their microenvironment. Among the various technologies for the detection of single molecules, the detection with optical methods has many advantages in terms of its high sensitivity, electrical passiveness, and robustness. The recent advances in the engineering of either the excitation light or the solution of the molecules have paved the way for enhanced single-molecule detection. We present recent developments …
