The University of Dayton first adopted its General Education Program for all undergraduate students in the Fall of 1983 when Senate Doc #81-2 was approved. Its stated purpose was to make “students aware of the diversity of intellectual thought and theory represented by the sciences, the humanities and the social sciences. In addition, the general education component offers the students an opportunity to synthesize and evaluate information from various disciplines and thus enhance the study of a specific profession.” In 1991 significant curricular revisions were made to the General Education Program including the introduction of the Humanities Base and Thematic …

Beyond Pink And Blue: Rethinking Gendered Parental Roles, Paige Kairis

The writing process for this project required a lot of creative thinking and research, as I aimed to create a detailed and unique addition to the conversation surrounding gendered parental roles. I started by thinking of my own personal experiences with the issue, which served as a spark for the direction I chose to take my paper. I then went on to sort through prior research on the subject, choosing sources that best aligned with my vision for the project. A Geologist, A Photographer And A Theologian Walk Into The Woods: Wonder, Grief And Hope In An Old-Growth Forest In An Age Of Wildfire, Vincent J. Miller, Frederick J. Swanson, David Paul Bayles
Intersections of Science and Faith
In 2007, Catholic theologian Vince Miller had a sabbatical and went to the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest in Oregon. In the late 1970s and early '80s, this is the place where the fundamental research was done that established old growth as a certain kind of ecological community. This emerged out of the fuel of forestry, which was largely concerned prior to that with harvest schedules and maximum sustainable yield. So, the research they did there, which was profoundly interdisciplinary, engaged the ecosystem across all sorts of disciplines.
