What Made Catholic Identity A Problem?, Philip Gleason
What Made Catholic Identity A Problem?, Philip Gleason
Marianist Award Lectures
Philip Gleason talks on how the issue of holding a Catholic identity held many Catholics back in the early to mid twentieth century. Before the reforms of Vatican Council II and the opening ot the Church unto the world, he argues that many Catholic institutions, especially universities, were marred by intellectual immaturity, and that only by addressing the shortfalls of that identity could the Church become mature in the modern world.

A Handbook Using Myths, Legends, Folk Tales, And Contemporary Realistic Fiction In Teaching About Latin American Culture, Gale M. Herron
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this project is to examine the literature available for children on the topic of Latin American culture, past and present, and to put it into a handbook format for the use of teachers K-3. This project also will examine the research that has been conducted on teaching multi-cultural literature in the early childhood and early elementary years which supports the premise that multi-cultural literature helps students to develop an appreciation and understanding of other cultures' similarities and respect for their differences. Investigation Of The Healing Process After Sexual Assault: A Dual Case Study, Kirsten B. Harrell
Investigation Of The Healing Process After Sexual Assault: A Dual Case Study, Kirsten B. Harrell
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
A dual case study was conducted to explore the similarities and differences between the assault and post-assault experiences of fraternal twin sisters, Kathy and Barb, who were abducted and sexually assaulted. A series of in-depth interviews was conducted to obtain the main data set. A number o f tests and questionnaires were used to provide additional information on the personalities, coping styles, and reactions to the assault of these two women. A critical difference between the two women's healing processes emerged in the way in which each cycled through confrontation and inhibition of their thoughts and feelings about the assault. …

The Basic Course In Communication Theory: A Shift In Emphasis, Warren Sandmann
The Basic Course In Communication Theory: A Shift In Emphasis, Warren Sandmann
Basic Communication Course Annual
This essay calls for a change in how the introductory communication theory course is taught. Standard models and texts are examined, described and critiqued. The standard model of communication theory depicts theory as a body of knowledge to be studied and applied to specific situations. This one dominant paradigm of communication theory constrains other possible approaches to understanding and teaching communication theory. The remainder of the essay offers a rationale for a shift in the teaching of communication theory, and directions for preliminary changes in the teaching of communication theory.
