Archaeological Ethics: Excavation Of Human Remains, Eileen Harris
Archaeological Ethics: Excavation Of Human Remains, Eileen Harris
Line by Line: A Journal of Beginning Student Writing
I began by researching ethical issues across various career fields, but I had a challenging time choosing a topic. After some consideration, I landed on the excavation of the deceased in archaeology, which has always interested me. I consolidated my sources through JSTOR, the University of Dayton library database, and Google Scholar. I then determined the best scholarly articles and journals to support my argument. After analyzing each source, I began drafting my essay and later developed my first draft, which was peer-reviewed by my classmates. I then completed a second draft, and lastly I made some edits to produce …

Classroom Phone Bans: A Needed Understanding, Douglas G. Thomas
Line by Line: A Journal of Beginning Student Writing
This project, the final writing piece for my English 100 course, was a research and argumentative essay, specifically discussing the ever increasing number of mobile phone bans in educational settings and the ways they can be a benefit to students in the classroom.
This project involved a much research, especially when it came to finding academic journals and studies on the psychological effects of mobile devices on youth, and well as the potential benefits and consequences of phone bans. This research did not end when I started writing the piece, as I felt it beneficial to gather more substantial evidence …

Myanmar’S Military Coup: A Real-Life ‘Hunger Games’?, Spring Revolution Generation
Line by Line: A Journal of Beginning Student Writing
This article, written under a pseudonym, is a summary-response paper that the author was assigned to write as part of their ENG 100 class. They wanted to write about their country's ongoing revolution to raise awareness about it. One of the intriguing aspect of the country's revolution is the usage of The Hunger Games' three-finger salute, so they researched some articles about it, summarizing the primary sources and integrating them with a secondary source, which is an article about the three-finger salute in the Hunger Games series, to articulate a connection between The Hunger Games and Myanmar's Spring Revolution. The …

Distinguishing Pearls From Fish Eyes: The Branch Lineage Genealogies Of The Descendants Of Confucius, Christopher Agnew
Distinguishing Pearls From Fish Eyes: The Branch Lineage Genealogies Of The Descendants Of Confucius, Christopher Agnew
Books and Book Chapters by University of Dayton Faculty
This paper examines the form and production of genealogies compiled by local branch-lineages of the descendants of Confucius, the Kongs. It highlights the way the Kongs in Qufu, the hometown of Confucius and the center of Kong power, exercised control over branch-lineage formation through the collection and approval of written genealogies. The paper pays particular attention to the crucial function of manuscripts in the compilation, drafting, and circulation of genealogical knowledge. Depending on the relationship between branch-lineages and the Kong ducal center, manuscript genealogies adopted different forms, either to align with norms established in Qufu, or to articulate alternative lineage …

Educational Leadership Faculty Publications
This qualitative study uses a phenomenological approach to understand the experiences of thirteen Ghanaian head-teachers in suburban and rural areas of the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem district during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings revealed that these leaders faced numerous challenges related to pivoting to remote learning for the first time combined with the lack of access to technology. Other challenges pertained to the absence of infrastructure and resources such as books. Despite these challenges, these Ghanaian head-teachers were able to adapt to the crisis and alter their leadership style to educate the children they served. Currently, there is a limited …
