The Impact Of Owner's Identity On Corporate Capital Structure, Josephat Lotto Dec 2016

The Impact Of Owner's Identity On Corporate Capital Structure, Josephat Lotto

Business Management Review

This paper examines how the identity of corporate owners affects corporate leverage in the UK. Using data from a sample of 643 listed UK firms, the results show that family-controlled firms have higher debt ratios than companies controlled by financial institutions. The implication is that family-controlled companies prefer debt to equity in their capital structure due to either a control-enhancing mechanism and/or firm ' s protection from take-over threats. The paper, further confirms that corporate control contestability has also a positive impact on debt ratio. In essence, a smaller value of control contestability signifies more equal distribution of the voting …

Influence Of Perceived Trust In Rural Consumer Mobile Payment Service Adoption: An Understanding Of Moderation Effects Of Gender And Age, Eliezer Taluka, Juma James Masele

Business Management Review

Mobile Payment Services present a noble potential to increase financial inclusiveness by extending access to financial services to rural consumers, which have to contend with severely access to traditional financial facilities such as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), bank branches and other financial institutions. Despite the potential that mobile payment services offer, perceived uncertainties present one of the causes behind low consumer mobile payment services adoption in rural areas. Yet, the extent to which perceived trust influence behavioural intention to adopt mobile payment services in Tanzania differ among younger and older rural consumers, and, female and male rural consumers has not …

Managers Or Corporates?: Curbing Non-Compliance Through Corporate Income Tax Penalty, Deogratias N. Mahangila

Business Management Review

Governments normally impose tax penalties for tax non-compliance. They can either impose financial corporate income tax penalties on corporates or tax managers in cases of corporate income tax non-compliance. However, the effectiveness of these corporate income tax penalty incidences remains largely unknown. This paper examines their effectiveness experimentally. In all, 100 Bachelor of Commerce second-year students at the University of Dar es Salaam participated in the laboratory experiment. The participants were randomly assigned into two groups: of managers and of owner-managers. Then the two groups were subdivided randomly into two groups based on corporate income tax penalty incidences: corporate income …

Tanzania Journal of Science

Rock samples were collected from the Kiejo, Rungwe and Ngozi volcanoes, southern Tanzania. Results show that, in the Ngozi and Rungwe volcanoes, magma cooled relatively fast. After large part of the magma had crystallized, nucleation of crystals at a relatively slow rate crystallized from interstitial fluids of the primary magma that had already crystallized fine grained minerals resulting into large grains of minerals. In the Kiejo volcano, both zoned and unzonned olivine crystals exist; unzoned crystals being primary and the zoned ones are secondary. Such observations also indicate that the magma responsible for these rocks had interstitial fluids that crystallized …

The Nature Of Conditional Sentences In Nyakyusa, Amani Lusekelo Jun 2016

The Nature Of Conditional Sentences In Nyakyusa, Amani Lusekelo

Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

The mechanisms utilized to introduce conditional construction in Nyakyusa are partly similar to the patterns available in some Bantu languages because its protasis is introduced by the word lıınga. The counterfactual marker angali introduces the apodosis of the counterfactual sentences, similar to Zulu and Swahili. The main difference is that Nyakyusa differentiates reality and unreality situations primarily through TAM formatives. For instance, realistic situations manifest in future and present tenses while unrealistic events are primarily indicated by remoteness in past tense.

Towards An Anglophone African Literature Praxis: A Case Of A Literary Linguistic Conundrum And The Teaching Of African Letters, Michael Andindilile

Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

This article attempts to bring together various strands vital in the study and teaching of Anglophone African literature in an increasingly globalised world, which no longer has the luxury of ignoring the rich literatures from this unique continent often given an unwarranted bad name. It looks beyond the literary-linguistic conundrum to examine how the most can come out of the interpretation and teaching of Anglophone African literatures, primarily drawing on examples from Chinua Achebe’s oeuvre. It primarily argues that the increasingly transnational world has heightened the need to study and teach literatures from traditionally non-English contexts in the language, English, …

Constituent Order And Focus In Naro Language, Rose Letsholo,, Budzani Gabanamotse-Mogara

Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences

In Naro, the base word order is SOV (Visser, 2010). However, this language displays interesting variations in word order due to the fact that different constituents can occur in non-canonical positions, particularly the sentence initial position. It is in lieu of this that this paper investigates the following questions: (1) In Naro, what constituents can be fronted and which cannot? (2) What is the significance of the PGN marker in the order of the constituents in Naro sentences? (3) What is special about the sentence initial position given that different lexical constituents can occupy this position? Regarding question (1), we …

Containing Opportunism In Buyer-Seller Relationships: A Case Of Tour Operators And Accommodation Establishments In The Tanzania's Tourism Industry, Benjamin Moses Sakita

Business Management Review

This study draws on the transaction cost theory (TCA), relational contracting theory (RCT) and resource dependence theory (RDT). The author investigates the impact of interpersonal and inter-firm trust, prior relationship duration, and asymmetric buyer dependence on supplier opportunism in the tour operator-accommodation establishment relationship. Data analysed is from a survey involving 81 tour operators in Tanzania ' s tourism industry. The data corroborates predictions of RCT, TCA and RDT. Specifically, trust dissipates supplier opportunism. Moreover, the effect of asymmetric buyer dependence on supplier opportunism moves in a non-monotonic fashion over the range of relationship duration. The non-monotonic movement indicates that, …
