Public opinion predicts American small war sustainment through institutional causal mechanisms of Congress and political-military relations. An increase in general public disapproval (not necessarily connected to a war) predicts the time when Members of Congress look to their constituents for policy changes to appease broad frustration. The main objective of this dissertation was to investigate the impacts of human activities and climate control on hydrologic responses using the Integrated Hydrologic Model (IHM), which dynamically couples HSPF and MODFLOW. The study first evaluated the impacts of land use change and rainfall variability on hydrologic responses—such as streamflow, evapotranspiration (ET), groundwater ET, recharge, and groundwater heads—in the Anclote River basin (ARB), Florida. The results provided insights into the uncertainties in hydrologic responses due to rainfall variability. The widespread adoption of photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) technologies is crucial for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. A Multi-Port Converter (MPC) connects multiple PV panels, improving efficiency and reducing costs. In EVs, MPCs extend battery lifespan by adding energy sources, enhancing system quality beyond reliance on Li-ion batteries. This work presents piezoelectric transformers for compact electronics and atmospheric plasma generation, utilizing thin-film microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and bulk machined suspended transformers based on 128˚ Y-cut lithium niobate. As electronic devices continue to miniaturize, scaling down magnetic components remains a challenge due to difficulties in generating and confining sufficiently large magnetic fields. The most common configurations exhibit efficiencies of approximately 70% and can cause interference in surrounding electronics. The effects of fuel premixing on the emissions and flame stabilization characteristics of a high-pressure, axially staged combustion system are experimentally examined. The experimental facility is split into two major components. The main stage provides a high-pressure, high-temperature crossflow that is consistent for all test conditions, and the axial stage provides the reacting jet-in-crossflow, where the flame temperature is varied by equivalence ratio sweep. This dissertation examines how peripheral communities at the ancient Maya site of Pacbitun, Belize, exercise agency through their ritual practices from the Middle Preclassic to the Late Classic periods. This study explores the impact of font selection, hyperlink presence, memory retention, and visual acuity on digital reading experiences for older adults. Initially designed to evaluate the effects of font types and hyperlinks on reading outcomes, the study adapted its approach after participants indicated a strong dislike for hyperlinks and largely avoided using them. Using a multiple linear regression analysis, this research examines how font choices, memory, and visual acuity influence reading speed, comprehension, engagement, pleasure, and fatigue. In 2023, the Curaçao Tourism Board achieved significant milestones in promoting and developing the island as a premier tourist destination. The tourism sector experienced remarkable growth, with a 19% increase in stayover arrivals, reaching 582,400 visitors compared to 489,599 in 2022. This marked the first time Curaçao exceeded half a million stayover arrivals.

The success of Curaçao's tourism sector was bolstered by targeted marketing campaigns in key source markets. Notably, 78.9% of attendees, or 4,917 "Festival-Passion Tourists," traveled to Curaçao specifically for the festival. These tourists were affluent and well-educated, primarily from the Netherlands, USA, Venezuela, Colombia, Aruba, and Suriname. This study explores the Great Resignation—a mass wave of voluntary job departures during and after the COVID-19 pandemic— through a Foucauldian lens, exploring the intersections of neoliberal labor practices, worker subjectivities, and discursive power. Using Foucauldian Discourse Analysis (FDA) 25 interviews with individuals who resigned during this period were analyzed to explore how workers engage with neoliberal discourses in making sense of their work-related attitudes, experiences, and decisions as well as the broader discursive constructions used to interpret the Great Resignation as a societal phenomenon. This study examines the technology and appointment scheduling habits of older adults over the age of 55 through an exploratory sequential three phase mixed methods study. Phase One of this study examined features of ten existing mHealth applications through a qualitative content analysis, then a mHealth wireframe was developed from the app to replicate in addition to a redesigned version. Phase Two of the study was a thirty-four questions survey with 40 participants that inquired about their background with appointment scheduling, prior experience with technology, and demographics. Arising from the complications of an underprivileged and impoverished background this thesis focuses on exposing the grotesque consequences of conflicting ideologies through personal and societal suffering while in search of universal connections to showcase the need for compassion and understanding. My artistic practice is utilized as an entry point to have difficult discussions, a tool for teaching themes of injustice, inequality, and mistreatment. The traumatizing experience of poverty or corruption has the potential to be transmuted into something beneficial. I utilize discarded, low valued, unwanted, and damaged materials in my artmaking to symbolize transfiguration, an advanced state of former self. …
