Predictors Of Hospital Quality And Efficiency, Hoda Fotovvat
Predictors Of Hospital Quality And Efficiency, Hoda Fotovvat
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
American hospitals have made serious efforts to implement and expand their health information technology capabilities and to integrate different specialized care or high-tech services in order to maximize the efficiency and quality of care. In providing a variety of HIT-related services, these hospitals expanded their national reputation in line with integrated care goals. As a result, hospitals are encouraged to establish effective communication channels to facilitate patient-physician sharing of the patient care experience, to enhance effective pain management, and to transform patient-centered care modalities to solidify the adequacy of patient care processes. By analyzing national data sets publicly available, this …

Fabrication And Characterization Of Nonlinear Optical Ceramics For Random Quasi-Phase-Matching, Xuan Chen
Fabrication And Characterization Of Nonlinear Optical Ceramics For Random Quasi-Phase-Matching, Xuan Chen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A number of technologies rely on the conversion of short laser pulses from one spectral domain to another. Efficient frequency conversion is currently obtained in ordered nonlinear optical materials and requires a periodic spatial modulation of their nonlinear coefficient which results in a narrow bandwidth. One can trade off efficiency for more spectral bandwidth by relaxing the strict phase-matching conditions and achieve nonlinear interaction in carefully engineered disordered crystalline aggregates, in a so-called random quasi-phase-matching (rQPM) process. In this dissertation, we examine appropriate fabrication pathways for (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (PMN-PT) and ZnSe transparent ceramics for applications in the mid-IR. The main challenge …
Community-Based Coastal Restoration: Long Term Impacts On Habitats And People In Volusia County, Rachel Wimmer
Community-Based Coastal Restoration: Long Term Impacts On Habitats And People In Volusia County, Rachel Wimmer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Coastal habitats provide invaluable economic and ecosystem services. However, coastlines are eroding at increasing rates due to anthropogenic and climate driven changes. Grey and green infrastructure solutions have been proposed to retard the decay of coastlines, with oysters serving as a popular living shoreline. Three community-based stabilizations that implemented living shorelines and engaged local communities in restoration efforts over the past decade in Volusia County were revisited to determine if they were successful and if they produced positive public perceptions of success. Chicken Island, which was restored after waves, boat wakes, tides, and adverse weather altered the natural shoreline, had …
Numerical Investigation And Optimization Of Pin Fins In Micro Heat Sinks, Fuad Ismayilov
Numerical Investigation And Optimization Of Pin Fins In Micro Heat Sinks, Fuad Ismayilov
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Operating temperature in electronics applications is continuously increasing. Therefore, for the past few decades, high heat flux removing micro heat sinks are investigated in terms of heat transfer effectiveness. This study generally concentrates on improving the passive heat transfer techniques. Micro heat sinks used in experiments are fabricated using MEMS techniques. Resistance temperature detectors, RTDs, were used for temperature measurements. The experimental data was obtained for single and two phase flow regions; however, only single phase flow results were considered in numerical simulations. Numerical validations were performed on the micro heat sinks, including cylinder and hydrofoil shaped pin fins. Following …
Mode Coupling In Space-Division Multiplexed Systems, Huiyuan Liu
Mode Coupling In Space-Division Multiplexed Systems, Huiyuan Liu
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Even though fiber-optic communication systems have been engineered to nearly approach the Shannon capacity limit, they still cannot meet the exponentially-growing bandwidth demand of the Internet. Space-division multiplexing (SDM) has attracted considerable attention in recent years due to its potential to address this capacity crunch. In SDM, the transmission channels support more than one spatial mode, each of which can provide the same capacity as a single-mode fiber. To make SDM practical, crosstalk among modes must be effectively managed. This dissertation presents three techniques for crosstalk management for SDM. In some cases such as intra-datacenter interconnects, even though mode crosstalk …
Commitment And Credibility In Fdi, Kathleen Sullivan
Commitment And Credibility In Fdi, Kathleen Sullivan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
How can firms in foreign direct investment (FDI) best protect their assets from host government contract beach? FDI is the largest and most stable form of external financing to less developed countries (LDCs). It increases job growth, technological development, and efficiency in the host country, subsequently increasing economic development. Companies prefer to invest in countries that are less prone to contract breach. I propose that credibility of commitments can help explain variation in contract breach. I propose that firms are most likely to avoid contract breach when they are involved in supply chains and when the host country has a …
Evaluation Of Postoperative Air Leak And Chest Tube Drainage Systems After Pulmonary Resection, Kristina Jacobsen
Evaluation Of Postoperative Air Leak And Chest Tube Drainage Systems After Pulmonary Resection, Kristina Jacobsen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Postoperative air leaks are the most common complication after a pulmonary resection. There is no data in the literature comparing the traditional and digital chest drainage system after a robotic-assisted pulmonary lobectomy. In 182 eligible patients, this retrospective study evaluated the association between digital and traditional drainage systems with postoperative chest tube days, hospital length of stay, chest tube reinsertion during hospitalization, and 30-day readmission for pneumothorax following a robotic-assisted lobectomy. The groups did not differ significantly in terms of age, gender, BMI, smoking, adhesions or neoadjuvant therapy. Patients with the digital drainage system had a mean chest tube duration …
Reconceptualizing Responsiveness For Network Governance: Insights From Cross-Sector Efforts To Assist The Displaced Population From Puerto Rico In Central Florida, Safiya Prysmakova
Reconceptualizing Responsiveness For Network Governance: Insights From Cross-Sector Efforts To Assist The Displaced Population From Puerto Rico In Central Florida, Safiya Prysmakova
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study further expands current knowledge on responsiveness in the public administration field and examines factors that contribute to more responsive public service delivery networks. This research reconceptualized the concept of responsiveness under the lens of New Public Governance as a legitimate democratic public value and answered the following research questions: What constructs constitute to the concept of public service responsiveness? How can public service responsiveness be measured at the network level? Does the complexity of public service provision affect perceived public service network responsiveness? How do collaborative processes across network partners, community support, and resource munificence affect the responsiveness …
You Can Sit With Us: An Investigation Of Organizational Rationale For Diversity And Inclusion Climate, Stephanie Leonard
You Can Sit With Us: An Investigation Of Organizational Rationale For Diversity And Inclusion Climate, Stephanie Leonard
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Climate for inclusion has captured the attention of management scholars as well as practitioners due to the positive effects inclusive climates have on organizations. Prior research has shown that a strong climate for inclusion leads to desirable outcomes such as increased organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and creativity, as well as a decrease in intent to turnover (e.g., Acquavita et al., 2009; Groeneveld, 2011; Choi & Rainey, 2010; Pitts, 2009). However, the field is lacking understanding of the factors that impact inclusion climate (Guillaume et al., 2014). To answer this call for inclusion climate formation research, this dissertation considers the relationship …
The Effect Of Reliability Information And Risk On Appropriate Reliance In An Autonomous Robot Teammate, Andrew Talone
The Effect Of Reliability Information And Risk On Appropriate Reliance In An Autonomous Robot Teammate, Andrew Talone
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research examined how information regarding a robot teammate's reliability and the consequences for mistakes made by a robot in its task influence reliance on the robot by a human teammate. Of interest in this research was the notion of appropriate reliance: relying on a robot teammate's decisions when it is performing well and not relying on its decisions when it is performing poorly. An experiment was conducted in which participants interacted with an autonomous robot teammate while performing a cordon and search operation within a virtual reality simulation environment. Participants were responsible for monitoring the perimeter of a search …
Fluid Flow Characteristics Of A Co-Flow Fluidic Slot Jet Thrust Augmentation Propulsion System, Brian Garrett
Fluid Flow Characteristics Of A Co-Flow Fluidic Slot Jet Thrust Augmentation Propulsion System, Brian Garrett
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The UAV industry is booming with investments in research and development on improving UAV systems in order to increase applications and reduce costs of the use of these machines. Current UAV machines are developed according to the quadcopter design which has a rotary propulsion system which provides the lift needed for the aerial vehicles. This design has some flaws; namely safety concerns and noise/vibration production both of which come from the rotary propulsion system. As such, a novel propulsion system using slip stream air passed through high performance slot jets is proposed and analysis of the fluid characteristics is presented …
