A hundred yards down a sandy road, erected before a Spanish moss covered live oak tree, is a bronze plaque that recounts a brief story ofJoseph M. White and his political career, and emphasizes his importance in the early history of the Florida Territory as a delegate to Congress. Briefly mentioned is the reason the plaque appears at this location-"[White] became the owner of this site as part of a 3,000 acre plantation," naming his cotton and sugar cane producing estate Casa Bianca. Dyslexia is widely understood to be a learning disability that affects an individual's reading and writing abilities. Surgical education has the arduous task of providing effective and efficient methods of surgical skill acquisition and clinical judgment while staying abreast with the latest surgical technologies within an ever-changing field. Robotic surgery is one such technology. Many surgeons in practice today were either never taught or were not effectively taught robotic surgery during training, leaving them to navigate the robotic learning curve and reach mastery independently. This thesis investigated the perceptions of accommodation efficacy held by students with neurodevelopmental disabilities at UCF (the University of Central Florida) to understand whether the current accommodations are adequate for those accessing them. Prior research has found that students with disabilities face many barriers when accessing proper accommodations.

Furthermore, even when they access them, the accommodations may fall short of what is needed. An online survey study was conducted to investigate student usage of and attitudes toward accommodations. Play is something that many children experience. However, we as a society do not give it nearly enough credit for just how much it can achieve. Through play, children can learn so much more and retain that information, while giving them the skills to transfer their knowledge to situations outside of the classroom. Play encourages creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction. By teaching kids through play, they are able to comphrend more at younger ages, and I have found that it can also help them express their emotions in ways that I was not able to at such young ages. This thesis uses a microhistorical methodology to examine the social impact and lived experience of Prohibition in Sanford, Florida, and the surrounding area – an historically "dry" community. Historiographical claims from state, regional, and national studies are tested through data sampling of Sanford Municipal Court Records; close readings of more than 200 Sanford Herald articles; and an oral history with a local museum curator based on family tradition.

This is an evidence-driven thesis. A thirty-percent sampling of 23,000 Sanford Municipal Court Records covering the Prohibition era (1920-1933) enables detailed analysis of alcohol-related arrest and enforcement patterns based on race, gender, …

Gen Z is a considerably politically active generation. However, Gen Z differs from previous generations in their methodology, campaigning for change through both in person and digital activism. While both forms of activism are effective in their own way, digital poses a unique challenge. When people can be activists from the comfort of their phone, they become “slacktivists”. People whose activism does not contribute to any significant action outside of the internet (Serup Christensen).

The purpose of this study was to examine the high school experiences of theatre students at a large university in Central Florida to determine which of the Collective for Academic and Social Emotional Learning's (CASEL) five social-emotional learning strategies (SEL 5) were remembered (CASEL, 2022). An opt-in focus group of students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, or asexual (LGBTQIA+) and were involved in K-12 theatre were interviewed to examine if the SEL 5 strategies being utilized had a distinct impression on this vulnerable population (Krishan, et al., 2016). Vogel's Indecent revisits the events surrounding the production of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance on Broadway in 1923, which featured a lesbian relationship. Actors often use their life experiences to evoke emotions and give a compelling performance. Connecting with personal experiences for a role, however, can manifest traumatic experiences. Trauma in the acting process can trigger difficult memories and emotions, which affects the actor's well-being. In graduate school, I discovered that trauma was a detriment to my artistic freedom in the acting process. Without the appropriate tools to address trauma, it affected my well-being and caused me to burnout.
