Image Analysis And Improvement Of A Point Light Source Visual Flight Simulator, Steve K. Butrimas Jan 1974

Image Analysis And Improvement Of A Point Light Source Visual Flight Simulator, Steve K. Butrimas

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

It has long been desired to simulate a non-preprogrammed controllable visual scene of the real world in a limited area for the purpose of training, in particular for aviation training. There presently exists a point light source projection system designed to accomplish this, however due to physical limitations, the display image, as compared to the corresponding real world scene which is being simulated, is somewhat distorted and limited. This point light source system is analyzed to determine the distortions and deviations from reality and methods are proposed to improve the display by minimizing the distortions and deviations.

A Military Training System Perspective And Model For Training Program Management, Alvin J. Boudreaux Jan 1974

A Military Training System Perspective And Model For Training Program Management, Alvin J. Boudreaux

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A perspective of the Naval Education and Training System (NETS) is developed and utilized as a framework on which a simulation model of general training system activities is constructed. The simulation model, which is based on functional activities, emphasizes the interdependent consequences of decisions and actions created through management planning, analysis, and control of training programs. A simulation experiment was conducted using a test situation description (scenario) to reflect the impact of management decisions and actions on the resulting allocation of resources and timeliness of training program activities. Conclusions are drawn regarding the utility and implications of the system dynamics …

Fugitive Particulate From Highway Construction, Kennard F. Kosky Jan 1974

Fugitive Particulate From Highway Construction, Kennard F. Kosky

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

National ambient air quality standards for particulate matter have been promulgated since April, 1971. While effects of stationary sources on these standards have been examined, little research has been accomplished on the effects of fugitive particulate. This thesis examines the environmental impact of a fugitive dust source, Highway Construction. Using the High-Volume reference method for particulate sampling, the effect of Highway construction was determined. An analysis of concentrations, distance influences, meteorological influences, particle sizes and construction influences is presented. The data obtained from this study indicates the major influence of concentrations is a function of distance and sampling height. Particle …

An Application Of Hamilton's Principle To Diffraction Of Light By Ultrasound, Daniel F. Waterhouse Jan 1974

An Application Of Hamilton's Principle To Diffraction Of Light By Ultrasound, Daniel F. Waterhouse

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

A covariant form of Hamilton's Principle of Stationary Action is formulated and used to solve the general eiconal equation describing the wave function of light in a medium carrying ultrasound. Tensor notation is reviewed and the tensor form of Maxwell's equations is developed. Boundary equation that the field quantities must satisfy in order for the variation of Hamilton's action integral to be stationary are determined and used to form the generalized eiconal equation of geometrical optics. The rays are introduced and through a canonical transformation the eiconal for the diffracted medium is solved and plotted.
