Interactive Texturing For A Computer Graphics Display System, Yin L. Wah
Interactive Texturing For A Computer Graphics Display System, Yin L. Wah
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Surfaces have texture, and few surfaces are truly smooth in the real world, yet this is how they are modeled. Texturing provides the illusion of increased surface roughness or granularity, and it also gives the illusion of extra detail and realism. This is accomplished by modulating surface color based on gradient function known as texture pattern.
Changing texture pattern data can be expensive and time consuming since the change must be done on database offline system and then reloaded on the Computer Image Generator (CIG) for review of the change. The Interactive Generator (IAT) system is designed for online examination …
Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Acquisition Design, John C. Fakatselis
Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Acquisition Design, John C. Fakatselis
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Spread spectrum communication techniques are utilized to provide transmission of signals which have anti-jamming properties, a low probability of being intercepted, and can support a multiple-access system by servicing simultaneously a number of channels. This thesis concentrates on the receiver acquisition problem of a transmitted signal which is the output of a spread spectrum communication system. The acquisition requirements of a spread spectrum system and also the general approaches to the problem of “active and passive correlation” are discussed. A unique general purpose all-digital acquisition hardware design is developed and described to the schematic level of detail, where specific parts …
The Ritz Bar Or Abd: In Defense Of The Mfa, Peter Garvie
The Ritz Bar Or Abd: In Defense Of The Mfa, Peter Garvie
Association for Communication Administration Bulletin
This essay argues that the Master of Fine Arts is an appropriate terminal degree for university theatre faculty and challenges the claim that the Doctor of Philosophy represents a superior credential. The author emphasizes the realities of limited employment opportunities in both academic and professional theatre and contends that neither degree guarantees entry into those markets. The essay distinguishes the MFA as an advanced practice degree grounded in performance and production, whereas the PhD certifies research competence and does not necessarily attest to teaching or creative skill. Conservatory style training within a liberal arts setting is presented as legitimate and …

An Applied Orientation Model In A Community College Setting, Ivan Ronald Applebaum
An Applied Orientation Model In A Community College Setting, Ivan Ronald Applebaum
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A study was conducted at Valencia Community College to determine whether an improved student performance and retention. An orientation, based on the expressed needs of students, was provided to first-time, full-time students. The orientation consisted of an introduction to the institution and its resources, academic skill training, and personal resources management training. There were 22 students who participated for one day, 25 students who participated for two days of orientation, and a control group of 72 students. Although the behavioral outcomes were not generally statistically significant, the trends of all of the dependent measures, i.e., enrollment and withdrawal, were in …
A Study Of Merit Pay Factors As Perceived By Members Of The Florida Teaching Profession-National Education Association, Susan Crowe Burns
A Study Of Merit Pay Factors As Perceived By Members Of The Florida Teaching Profession-National Education Association, Susan Crowe Burns
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This study was designed to discover which merit pay evaluation and implementation factors were considered important by members of the Florida Teaching Profession - National Education Association (FTP-NEA). Comparisons were made of opinions within various subgroups (district size, position within organization, sex, race, age, years teaching, highest degree earned, assignment, secondary assignment).
The sample included the State Board of Directors, the Board of Directors of the United Faculty of Florida CUFF-university personnel), and FTP-NEA members in two-thirds of the local affiliates. All districts with support personnel groups were included. The questionnaire was comprised of merit pay factors which were cited …
A Demographic Study Of An Isolated Population Of The Gopher Tortoise, Gopherus Polyphemus; And An Assessment Of A Relocation Procedure For Tortoises, Terry J. Doonan
A Demographic Study Of An Isolated Population Of The Gopher Tortoise, Gopherus Polyphemus; And An Assessment Of A Relocation Procedure For Tortoises, Terry J. Doonan
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
It is acknowledged that the gopher tortoise is declining in numbers throughout its geographic range primarily from degradation and loss of suitable habitat. This research project is part of a pilot program to study the effectiveness of relocation as a mitigation method for the conservation of gopher tortoises. There was an opportunity to gather information about the tortoise population prior to its relocation, and for that reason this thesis is presented in two sections.
The first section of this work involved the analysis of the tortoise population prior to its removal from the development site. Results of two methods for …
A Spectral Iterative Approach For Analyzing The Scattering Of Cylindrical Waves From One Dimensional Wire Gratings, James R. Dire
A Spectral Iterative Approach For Analyzing The Scattering Of Cylindrical Waves From One Dimensional Wire Gratings, James R. Dire
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The scattering of cylindrical waves, infinite in the axial direction, from a one dimensional infinite, planar, periodic array of wires is investigated. The cylindrical wavefront is divided into planar segments. Each planar segment is treated individually as an infinite plane wave incident upon the periodic structure. The reflection characteristics of each plane wave is determined by analyzing the electromagnetic scattered fields using the secant method to solve an iterative algorithm. The derivation of the method as applied to surfaces containing a one dimensional parallel thin wire grating is presented. The reflection coefficients for cylindrical waves are determined by combining the …
