A System Dynamics Model To Test Urban Transportation Policy Alternatives, John Paul Burtle
A System Dynamics Model To Test Urban Transportation Policy Alternatives, John Paul Burtle
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This study investigates the structure of urban transportation systems, the bases of commuter mode selection, and the effects of alternate transportation system management policies. The study was based on the hypothesis that changes in transportation system management policies are possible which will significantly increase the demand for public transportation in urban areas.
Fugitive Particulate From Highway Construction, Kennard F. Kosky
Fugitive Particulate From Highway Construction, Kennard F. Kosky
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
National ambient air quality standards for particulate matter have been promulgated since April, 1971. While effects of stationary sources on these standards have been examined, little research has been accomplished on the effects of fugitive particulate. This thesis examines the environmental impact of a fugitive dust source, Highway Construction. Using the High-Volume reference method for particulate sampling, the effect of Highway construction was determined. An analysis of concentrations, distance influences, meteorological influences, particle sizes and construction influences is presented. The data obtained from this study indicates the major influence of concentrations is a function of distance and sampling height. Particle …
The Effects Of Variations In The Excitation Parameters Of Blast Waves On The High Frequency Response Of Circular Rings, Paul John Mirabella
The Effects Of Variations In The Excitation Parameters Of Blast Waves On The High Frequency Response Of Circular Rings, Paul John Mirabella
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The high frequency response of a circular ring of rectangular cross section interior to a conical shell excited by a blast wave is examined. The ring supports a rigidly attached mass during excitation. It is hypothesized that the response is a function of the four excitation parameters which characterize the loading. These are: peak reflected pressure; characteristic time (pulse duration); wave engulfment time; and circumferential distribution. These parameters are varied over a range of interest in an effort to ascertain the structural sensitivity to such perturbations. A series of tests sponsored by the Department of the Army and the Martin …
Osha's Impact On Industry, Paul Christ Noller
Osha's Impact On Industry, Paul Christ Noller
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
On December 29, 1970, the President signed into law the Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) of 1970, which became effective April 28, 1971. The purpose of this act is to assure safe and healthful working conditions for the nation's wage earners. The law provides that each employer has the basic duty to furnish his employees a place of employment which is safe from recognized hazards that cause death or serious physical harm. The implementation of the OSHA Act has been the most extensive intervention into the day-to-day operation of American Industry in history. Originally, employers expressed doubt that …
An Application Of Hamilton's Principle To Diffraction Of Light By Ultrasound, Daniel F. Waterhouse
An Application Of Hamilton's Principle To Diffraction Of Light By Ultrasound, Daniel F. Waterhouse
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A covariant form of Hamilton's Principle of Stationary Action is formulated and used to solve the general eiconal equation describing the wave function of light in a medium carrying ultrasound. Tensor notation is reviewed and the tensor form of Maxwell's equations is developed. Boundary equation that the field quantities must satisfy in order for the variation of Hamilton's action integral to be stationary are determined and used to form the generalized eiconal equation of geometrical optics. The rays are introduced and through a canonical transformation the eiconal for the diffracted medium is solved and plotted.
Analysis Of A Portable, One Hundred Ampere Pulse Test Current Microhmmeter, John Marshall Allred
Analysis Of A Portable, One Hundred Ampere Pulse Test Current Microhmmeter, John Marshall Allred
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This report is an analysis of the Model RT-2 Microhmmeter which is a portable apparatus using a pulse current power source in the measurement of load resistances in the microhm range. The need for accurately measuring resistances in the microhm range is quite real for testing electrical power circuit breaker contact resistance. Both during acceptance checking within the manufacturing process and in the field for preventative maintenance, contact resistance must be accurately determined. Before the invention of the Model RT-2 Micrometer, no device existed which could accurately measure resistances in the microhm range that was readily transported by an unaided …
Cost/Schedule Control Criteria For Selected Government Contracts, Robert Mcdowell Hammond
Cost/Schedule Control Criteria For Selected Government Contracts, Robert Mcdowell Hammond
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This report presents and interprets the Cost/Schedule Control System Criteria, management techniques which have been determined by the Department of Defense to represent appropriate methods for adequately controlling program costs and schedules. Applied to selected contracts of significantly large dollar value, these standards provide for a system which affords the contractor the ability for effective program management and the customer sufficient output visibility for proper program progress evaluation. These criteria differ from typical management methods in that they include a means for assessing the value of completed work in terms of its planned cost. Comparing this with the planned cost …

Remote Sensing Of Earth Resources System Capabilities V.S. Design Constraints, William Howard Grisham
Remote Sensing Of Earth Resources System Capabilities V.S. Design Constraints, William Howard Grisham
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
There is new evidence that global earth resources satellite net will be practical. This paper weighs recent advances in remote sensing to pinpoint the dominant constraints. The data and sensor systems interfacing requirements are critically reviewed. It is shown that conventional optics constraints can be relaxed, with the newer systems, based on multi-spectral imagery and statistical processing methods. The most powerful computational methods use algorithms based on a Gaussian assumption for the species vector in feature space, but biases in the imagery limit their efficiency. A rationale is proposed: improving the observational network calibrating efficiency will also improve the photogrammetric …
