Edge Contours, Donna J. Williams
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The accuracy with which a computer vision system is able to identify objects in an image is heavily dependent upon the accuracy of the low level processes that identify which points lie on the edges of an object. In order to remove noise and fine texture from an image, it is usually smoothed before edge detection is performed. This smoothing causes edges to be displaced from their actual location in the image. Knowledge about the changes that occur with different degrees of smoothing (scales) and the physical conditions that cause these changes is essential to proper interpretation of the results …

The Relationship Of Corporate Fitness To Absenteeism And Health Care Cost, Shawn J. Mcgahey
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
Interest in corporate fitness is increasing. In this study, absenteeism rates and health care costs were measured for 12 months before and 12 months after implementation of a corporate fitness class. It was also hypothesized that lifestyle factors would be significantly related to the decision to participate in the fitness program and to absenteeism.
Results showed no significant relationship between program participation and absenteeism. Also, it was found that average health care costs were lower before the program intervention and …

The discussion outlines the philosophical and structural foundations of extended programs, noting that they must represent more than simply relocating a campus curriculum. Various administrative structures, curricular models, and program elements are reviewed, including flexible scheduling, credit for prior learning, and integration of community resources. Key considerations include faculty readiness, institutional …
