The Use Of Tolerance For Ambiguity And Empathic Listening Skills To Predict Conscientious Crisis Intervention Volunteers, Lois Murphy Apr 1979

The Use Of Tolerance For Ambiguity And Empathic Listening Skills To Predict Conscientious Crisis Intervention Volunteers, Lois Murphy

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

It was hypothesized that the personality variable Tolerance for Ambiguity and empathic listening skills would significantly differentiate conscientious from nonconscientious crisis intervention volunteers. A group of 20 conscientious and a group of 20 nonconscientious volunteers from a local crisis intervention center were given a test of Tolerance for Ambiguity and a test of empathic listening skills that measured Interest, Understanding, and Response-ability. Results of t-tests between the groups and correlations between the variables indicated that Tolerance for Ambiguity was not a significant differentiator between the two groups. However, it was found that conscientious volunteers had significantly higher levels of Interest …

A Co-Op Advertising Information System, Kay C. Gardner

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This report presents the development of a business information system for co-op advertising. An underlying assumption is that information systems add value to an organization. It is an application of data bank theory, and demonstrates the techniques required to maintain a current information system, i.e., add, change, and delete capabilities. The master file is sequentially accessed to produce reports by participation percentage, classification, or expiration date.

An Application Of A Single Chip Slave Microcomputer As An Intelligent Interface, Thomas J. Riordan Apr 1979

An Application Of A Single Chip Slave Microcomputer As An Intelligent Interface, Thomas J. Riordan

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This thesis describes the operation of an intelligent controller existing between a computer system and a peripheral. The intelligent controller is implemented with an INTEL universal peripheral interface, UPI-41, single chip slave microcomputer. The interfaces between the controller and the computer system, and the controller and the peripheral are described in detail, as are the firmware and internal facilities of the controller itself. An evaluation of system operation is presented and, finally, the organizational philosophy of the system is discussed. Located within the appendices are a system schematic and listing of the controller program.

Methods For Increasing Children's Comprehension Of Prosocial Values As Transmitted Through Television Programs, Lissette E. Villanueva Apr 1979

Methods For Increasing Children's Comprehension Of Prosocial Values As Transmitted Through Television Programs, Lissette E. Villanueva

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This study examined the effect of intervening commentary and generalization discussions upon the generalization of prosocial values as transmitted through a commercially broadcast prosocial television program. The subjects participating were 50 first graders and 50 third graders. They were randomly assigned to one of five treatment conditions (control, film only, film with commentary, film with generalization, and film with commentary and generalization). Contrary to predications, the intervening commentary used as a means of directing attention to the critical points in the story, did not have an effect upon the comprehension of the values implied in the program. It is suggested …
