Taoism As Applied To The Individual In Western Business, Alfie T. Chadwick
Taoism As Applied To The Individual In Western Business, Alfie T. Chadwick
Honors Capstones
When making the comparisons between Eastern and Western approaches, the primary focus of juxtaposition is the “this or that” attitude of Western thought against the “this into that” focus of Eastern thought. For instance, a Western company may view change as the opposite of stability whereas Taoist belief through Yin-Yang theory suggests change actually is stability (Chen, 2002).
The inherent paradoxical nature of this approach counters most Western schools of thought and, therefore, might prove difficult to implement in a Western workplace. This study aims to explore the potential for applying the principle of Wu-Wei (also known as “effortless action”) …
Enhancing The Diversity And Number Of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists: A Proposed Pipeline Program For Underrepresented Students, Alexis Lamoreaux
Enhancing The Diversity And Number Of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists: A Proposed Pipeline Program For Underrepresented Students, Alexis Lamoreaux
Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarly Projects
The underrepresentation of minority groups in the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) profession impacts healthcare providers’ diversity and cultural competence. This Final Scholarly Project (FSP) proposes a pipeline program to increase diversity within the CRNA field by providing academic support, mentorship, and clinical exposure to students from underrepresented backgrounds. Given the shortage of anesthesia providers, especially in underserved areas, improving access to the CRNA profession for minority students is critical for enhancing patient outcomes. This FSP suggests establishing mentorship and skill development concepts through a 12-month structured program that targets minorities, first-generation college students, or those from rural backgrounds. The …
Is More Better? The Influence Of Visual Entropy And Color On Brand Identity And Engagement, Maryana Kopyt
Is More Better? The Influence Of Visual Entropy And Color On Brand Identity And Engagement, Maryana Kopyt
Honors Capstones
Brands in the beauty industry rely heavily on visual content to differentiate themselves and communicate their identity on social media. However, it remains unclear how visual complexity affects consumer engagement and perceptions, and limited research has combined visual entropy, sentiment, and engagement.
This project examines how three beauty brands: Glossier, Rhode, and Clinique, use color and visual complexity in their Instagram content and how these different strategies relate to emotional tone, brand identity consistency, and consumer engagement. A dataset of approximately 150 posts was collected, and deep learning-based visual analysis was used to extract the dominant colors and calculate visual …
Neurodiversity In The Workplace: Organizational Approaches To Supporting Neurodiverse Employees, Madison Vasquez
Neurodiversity In The Workplace: Organizational Approaches To Supporting Neurodiverse Employees, Madison Vasquez
M.S. in Leadership
Despite growing conversation around neurodiversity in the workplace, many organizations lack clear understanding and structured strategies to support neurodivergent employees. This study examines existing research on how organizations can more effectively support neurodiverse employees across the employee lifecycle. Using a qualitative literature review, this study addresses the research question by examining literature on neurodiversity within workplace contexts. This includes investigating common representations of neurodiversity and reviewing the strengths and challenges of neurodiverse individuals, including those who have autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence. The study also reviews workplace barriers, support strategies, and organizational outcomes identified across the literature. Key …
Hlafreq: Download And Combine Hla Allele Frequency Data, David A. Wells, Michael Mcauley
Hlafreq: Download And Combine Hla Allele Frequency Data, David A. Wells, Michael Mcauley
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes encode cell-surface proteins which play an important role in immunity. Since different HLA alleles enable different immune responses, the population frequency of HLA alleles is often considered when designing vaccines (Gulukota & DeLisi, 1996). Specific HLA alleles have been linked to autoimmune disease (Simmonds & Gough, 2007) and associated with adverse drug reactions (Fan et al., 2017). Further, the success of solid organ and stem cell transplants is related to HLA matching between donor and recipient (Fürst et al., 2019; Morishima et al., 2002). We present HLAfreq, a Python package which can be used to …
Encore Ledger: Bridging The Gap Between Legacy And Modern Financial Software, Grace Sanner
Encore Ledger: Bridging The Gap Between Legacy And Modern Financial Software, Grace Sanner
Honors Capstones
Encore Ledger explores how modern financial web applications can be integrated with legacy programming systems to improve financial literacy and capability of both individuals and small businesses. Many banks, insurance companies, and government sectors still rely on COBOL for financial purposes, yet modern users expect intuitive web-based tools for tracking transactions and interacting with financial data. This project asks: How can modern web technologies be combined with COBOL functions to accurately process financial data while maintaining usability? To investigate the question, this project employs an iterative software development methodology. A .NET backend manages data validation and business logic, while a …

From Central To Refinery: Labor And Hierarchy In The American Sugar Empire (1919-1962), Ben Woloch
From Central To Refinery: Labor And Hierarchy In The American Sugar Empire (1919-1962), Ben Woloch
History Honors Projects
From 1919 until 1962, the American Sugar Refining Company (ASRC) oversaw an empire, stretching from two Cuban sugar estates (centrales) to its Brooklyn refinery. The relationship between workers at both poles of the ASRC’s empire constituted a transnational labor hierarchy. Divergent management programs at the Brooklyn refinery and the centrales Jaronú and Cunagua confined the workers to distinct social positions. Brooklyn workers pursued labor-management collaboration in support of the sugar industry’s exploitative system, while workers in Cuba reimagined the sugar empire's power structure. The transnational workforce of the ASRC maintained a disunified relationship, which fractured the possibilities of working-class solidarity.

A.I. And The Law: How Ethical Guidelines Affect The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Legal Work, Andre Asher
A.I. And The Law: How Ethical Guidelines Affect The Use Of Artificial Intelligence In Legal Work, Andre Asher
Honors Theses
Artificial intelligence is a quickly growing industry that is beginning to integrate itself into various aspects of our lives. Regarding the legal portion, the American Bar Association has an extensive set of ethical guidelines which, although they themselves do not hold any disciplinary weight, have been adapted to many state grievance committees where sanctions can be imposed. The use of AI in the legal field has introduced a whole new set of ethical concerns, which the already existing rules of professional conduct must now adapt to. Looking at the ABA’s ethical rules 1.1: Competency, 1.3: Diligence, 1.5: Fees, 1.6: Confidentiality, …

Empowering Voices: A Qualitative Exploration Of Shared Governance Among Healthcare Workers In Clinical Practice, Ayman Alhazaymeh
Doctoral Projects
This project intervention evaluated the implementation of shared governance (SG), focused on partnership council activities and staff perception. The shared governance framework has several pillars, such as Partnership, Equity, Ownership, Accountability, and Shared Decision-Making, to support the design of healthcare organizations for excellent patient care (Porter-O’Grady, 2009). To effectively evaluate the SG implementation and ensure the ongoing success of the SG process, the author investigated staff contributions and actively sought feedback. He provided templates and guidelines for the partnership council and collected staff feedback. Murray et al. (2016) stated that the partnership council reported empowering staff to implement innovative solutions …

Reimagining Maternal Health: The Crucial Role Of Social And Behavioural Change Communication In Lmics, Sneha Chetri Ms, Monica Koachar
Journal Of Indian Physician Associates
Preventable maternal mortality is still remarkably high in low and middle-income nations, despite growing investments in maternal health systems. Conventional methods have mostly concentrated on expanding access to services, ignoring important social and behavioural factors that affect how people seek health care. In order to bridge the gap between the availability and actual consumption of maternal health treatments, this opinion piece makes the case for the critical role that social and behavioural change communication plays. The article uses real-world examples from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Ghana, and Uganda to show how SBCC can empower women, change the dynamics of …
Navigating The Genetic Frontier: Clinical And Ethical Implications Of Free Genetic Testing In India, Preetha Vijayalakshmi
Navigating The Genetic Frontier: Clinical And Ethical Implications Of Free Genetic Testing In India, Preetha Vijayalakshmi
Journal Of Indian Physician Associates
The expansion of free genetic testing services in India, resulting from government policies like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, corporate-sponsored initiatives, and international collaborations, makes it easier to access genomic services for early identification of inherited disorders such as thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and certain genetic kidney diseases, particularly in tribal populations. However, this review reveals significant clinical and ethical challenges. Clinically, Western-based genotyping platforms, not tailored to India’s genetic diversity, risk inaccurate results, including false positives and negatives, complicating clinical decision-making. A shortage of genetic counsellors and inadequate post-test care leaves patients, especially in rural areas, struggling within fragmented …

Exploring Coaching Issues And Feedback Generation During A Virtual International Coaching Exchange, Lori A. Gano-Overway, Ian Hj Cowburn, Liam Mccarthy
Journal of Coach Development
Internship opportunities can provide coaches with the chance to learn through experience and explore their personal theories in practice. However, to effectively develop coaches during internships facilitators of learning need to know more about what student coaches typically perceive and find meaningful to puzzle through to support their learning and developing theory of practice. Grounded in experiential learning theory and the notion of the reflective practitioner, the authors sought to examine how early-career sport coaches identify, frame, and explore practical coaching issues presented through a virtual international coaching exchange. Using a descriptive multiple-case study approach, the authors presented the coaching …

The Report (Al-Khabar) In Al-Jāḥiẓ’S Al-ʿUthmāniyya: A Reading Of Structure And Meaning, Dr. Mazker Naceer Al Kahtany
UB Journal for Humanities
This study scrutinizes Al-‘Uthmāniyya by Abū ʿUthmān ʿAmr ibn Baḥr al-Jāḥiẓ (d. 255 AH) as a foundational text for a new system of knowledge concerning reports (akhbār). Al-Jāḥiẓ was cognizant of the shift from an oral-based mind to a written one, recognizing that the conflict between these two modes of thought would render traditional conventions insufficient during the age of codification. Thus, the concept of accurate transmission (ṣaḥḥat al-majīʾ) became a criterion for the reliability of reports, aiming to purge them of doubt and the suspicion inherent in uncritical tradition. This notion is one of the key topics the research …

Exploring Identity Through Clay: A Humanistic Art Therapy Case Study With A Blind Chinese Adoptee, Virginia Jade Leicht
Expressive Therapies Theses
This qualitative case study explored how working with clay in art therapy can help support a blind man’s identity exploration. This paper addresses the problem of many traditional therapeutic approaches within the art therapy realm: They rely too heavily on visual engagement, which can limit the accessibility and opportunities for self-exploration and identity development for those who are blind. The study was grounded in current research and foundational theories based on the humanistic art therapy approach. Clay is considered an accessible medium that engages multiple senses and allows for emotional exploration and meaning making, specifically through tactile and sensory-based engagement …

Aacn Hwe Standards: Bridging Clinical Excellence And Academic Resilience, Michelle Kidd
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
For over 20 years, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has championed Healthy Work Environment (HWE) standards as essential for nursing excellence. While HWEs improve patient and staff outcomes, they may be underutilized in academia. As faculty and clinical staff face record burnout and turnover, the nursing pipeline's survival depends on a unified HWE approach that bridges clinical practice and academia through intentional collaboration.

Arete - The Balance Of Nature: A Study And Creation Of Greek Tragedy From The Modern World, Grace Margaret Merrill
Honors Theses
This thesis examines the gender roles in ancient Greece through a creative lens. It aims to reach an understanding of the inequalities between men and women. Some of these inequalities involve women’s rights, abortion, and divorce. The main goal of this project is to reveal the discrimination women faced in ancient Greece. Once this is accomplished, I will then use the research to create a play inspired by the traditional Greek tragedy format. This play addresses controversial topics of the time and how individuals would have approached them. While there is ample research into the focus of my topic, there …

External Mandate And Strategic Imperative: A Necessary And Sufficient Conditions Approach To Environmental Accounting Adoption In Tanzanian Manufacturing Firms, James Moses Dendula, Helena Thomas Haule
Business Management Review
Environmental Accounting (EA) serves as a strategic tool for organisations to integrate environmental considerations into operations, decision-making, and reporting. However, in emerging economies, its adoption remains uneven and insufficiently explained regarding how institutional pressures and internal capabilities jointly shape these practices. This study examines how institutional pressures and firms’ internal capabilities influence Environmental Accounting Practices (EAP) among 146 Tanzanian manufacturing firms. Anchored in Institutional Theory and the Resource-Based View (RBV), the study adopts a complementary analytical approach by integrating sufficiency and necessity logics using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) and Necessary Condition Analysis (NCA). The PLS-SEM results indicate …

Evolving Art Therapy In Virtual Environments: Exploring Telehealth Art Therapy Within Gaming, Kathleen A. Wilber
Expressive Therapies Theses
The rapid expansion of virtual therapy following the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted art therapists to reconsider how creative processes can be facilitated through digital means. This capstone thesis explores how art therapy practices can evolve within virtual environments by exploring the video game The Sims 4 as a novel digital medium for virtual art therapy. A qualitative approach was used within an intensive outpatient program (IOP), including a preliminary peer session and two individual client sessions. The intervention involved therapist-facilitated gameplay, where the clinician acted as a “third hand,” guiding clients in an effort to support identity and values-based exploration. …

Returning To Play: Play-Centered Art Therapy With Parentified Adult Caregivers, Paola Andrea Mendez Carreno
Expressive Therapies Theses
This research investigates the impact of play-centered art therapy on parentified adult caregivers, focusing on how creative interventions utilizing elements of play can support identity development, self-compassion, and relational capacity. The literature indicates that childhood parentification leads to identity loss and burnout, but creative play can foster neuroplasticity and emotional processing by allowing adults to externalize harmful narratives that have been internalized. To explore these concepts, the author conducted four sessions over six weeks with an adult participant at a private outpatient practice in Massachusetts. Play-centered activities included free collaging, puppet-making, and clay modeling, often involving moments of parallel play …
