Part I: The Synthesis Of New Potential Insecticides. Part Ii: New Aromatic Nucleophililic Subsitution Reactions, Fluoroalkoxylation And N,N-Dimethylamination, Cesar Colon
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
A series of routes are described for the synthesis of new potential insecticides which are symmetrical or asymmetrical similogs of 2,5-Bis (dichloropheny1)-1,3,4-oxadiazole and its precursor diacyl hydrazine. Also two new aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions are discussed. Activated aryl halides are reacted with fluorinated alkoxide anions. In all cases, substitution of the halogen by a fluoroalkoxy group was observed, and activated aryl halides are reacted with HMPA as an N, N-dimethyl aminating agent. In all cases, substitution of the halogen by a dimethyl amino group was observed. The effect of the activating group and the leaving group is described and a …

The Synthesis Of Potential Insecticides: Haloalkoxy Phenyl Diacylydrazines And 1,3,4-Oxadiazoles, Kathleen S. Gibbs-Rein
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The syntheses of two classes pf compounds, diacylhydrazines and 2,5-disubstituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles, intended for subsequent investigation of pesticidal activity are discussed. The experimental conditions and procedures necessary for the preparation of these potential insecticides are also revealed. Finally, spectral data are interpreted and explained, and recommendations for further research are given.

Interactive Computer Aided Design And Animation Of Spatial Mechanisms, Emmet B. Peter
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The synthesis of planar and spatial mechanisms is often accomplished by either trial and error supplemented by computer analysis or by specific analytical techniques in the literature. In either case it is extremely helpful to be able to visualize a physical design as it emerges, and to see a graphic display of it in animated motion. This paper describes the development of a general interactive program for both analyzing and viewing a spatial 4-bar (RSSR) mechanism in animated motion. The analysis provides complete position, velocity, and acceleration information and, for the special case of the planar 4-bar, the same information …

Interim Report On Orlando Visitors Reactions To Universal Studios Tour Florida, Mccollum/Spielman Associates, Inc.
Harrison "Buzz" Price Papers
In 1980, prior to the completion of EPCOT, a major study was conducted to measure potential interest in visiting both, Universal Studios Tour in Orlando and EPCOT, and how these parks would impact existing attractions. The 1980 study was conducted over several months amongst 1,021 overnight visitors to Orlando, and utilized verbal descriptions and audio tapes to describe both the Universal concept and that of EPCOT. The results of the 1980 study indicated extremely high interest in both Universal and EPCOT, and strong opportunity for both attractions. However, EPCOT has since opened, creating a condition that obviously must be addressed …

Effects On Iron And Cobalt On Methane Production From Dairy Cattle Manure, Mark E. Himes
Effects On Iron And Cobalt On Methane Production From Dairy Cattle Manure, Mark E. Himes
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The effects of iron and cobalt on methanogenesis from dairy cattle manure were studied. Four-liter digestors with 3-liter working volumes were charged daily with dairy manure (4.5% W/V volatile solids) to achieve a 3-day retention time. Digestors were incubated at 37°C and pH 7.0 on a rotary shaker. Duplicate digestors were maintained under the following parameters: controls (no ions added), Co++ at 4.958 mg/liter, Fe++ at 20.64 mg/liter and Fe++ and Co++ at above stated final digestor concentrations.
Significantly higher production of biogas and methane occurred with the addition of iron (p = .05). Iron-amended digestors …
Granular Activated Carbon Pilot Plant For The Removal Of Color, Toc, And Thmfp, Jeffrey L. Herr
Granular Activated Carbon Pilot Plant For The Removal Of Color, Toc, And Thmfp, Jeffrey L. Herr
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
As part of an Environmental Protection Agency grant to reduce the trihalomethane concentration in the Melbourne, Florida drinking water, a granular activated carbon (GAC) plant was operated for approximately 1 year. Four GAC pilot plant systems were operated in parallel each treating a different influent. Raw water, coagulated, settled and filtered water, filtered water with ozone pretreatment, and filtered water with chlorine dioxide pretreatment were pumped through the individual systems. Influent and effluent concentrations of various pollutants were monitored regularly throughout the study. The raw water GAC system showed rapid breakthrough for color, total organic carbon (TOC) and trihalomethanes (THM's). …
