On-Chip Structure For Electrostatic Discharge (Esd) Protection [Div], Juin Liou, Joseph Bernier, Javier Salcedo, Donald Whitney

UCF Patents

A complementary SCR-based structure enables a tunable holding voltage for robust and versatile ESD protection. The structure is n-channel high-holding-voltage low-voltage-trigger silicon controller rectifier (N-HHLVTSCR) device and p-channel high-holding-voltage low-voltage-trigger silicon controller rectifier (P-HHLVTSCR) device. The regions of the N-HHLVTSCR and P-HHLVTSCR devices are formed during the normal processing steps in a CMOS and BICMOS process. The spacing and dimensions of the doped regions of N-HHLVTSCR and P-HHLVTSCR devices are used to produce the desired characteristics. The tunable HHLVTSCR makes possible the use of this protection circuit in a broad range of ESD applications including protecting integrated circuits where the …

Targeting Of Long Chain Triacylglycerol Hydrolase Gene For Tuberculosis Treatment, Pappachan Kolattukudy, Jaiyanth Daniel, Chirajyoti Deb Oct 2009

Targeting Of Long Chain Triacylglycerol Hydrolase Gene For Tuberculosis Treatment, Pappachan Kolattukudy, Jaiyanth Daniel, Chirajyoti Deb

UCF Patents

Tuberculosis, caused by the organism Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is one of the major public health threats in the world. The emergence of multidrug resistant strains poses serious threats to the control of this disease due to the complex nature of second-line drug treatment. Upon infection, the bacterium goes through an initial replication phase after which it enters a nonreplicative, drug-resistant state of dormancy. The bacterium is able to survive in this dormant state for decades until the hosts immune system is weakened when it reactivates and causes the infectious disease.

Stormwater Irrigation Volume Iii: Transport Of The Cyanotoxin Microcystin In Groundwater Beneath Stormwater Ponds: Results Of Soil Column Experiments, Martin Wanielista Sep 2009

Stormwater Irrigation Volume Iii: Transport Of The Cyanotoxin Microcystin In Groundwater Beneath Stormwater Ponds: Results Of Soil Column Experiments, Martin Wanielista

BMP Trains Research and Publications

As the demand for fresh water increases in central Florida to meet both public supply and irrigation needs, stormwater is increasingly being managed as a resource to help offset possible future declines in aquifer water levels. Water quality is an important consideration when using stormwater for recharge or harvesting. A constituent of recent concern is cyanobacteria (popularly known as blue-green algae) because some of these can produce toxins (cyanotoxins) that are detrimental to animal and human health. Microcystins are the most commonly found type of cyanotoxin in Florida and have been detected in a variety of rivers, natural lakes, and …

High Intensity Mhz Mode-Locked Laser, Martin Richardon, Arnaud Zoubir

UCF Patents

Systems, configurations and methods of using an ultrafast, self-starting, mode-locked laser are provided. The systems, devices and methods of using stable, self-starting mode-locked lasers, can be compact, use fewer optical elements and have energies sufficient for most micro-processing and micro-structuring applications. The large spectral bandwidth of ultra-short (femtosecond) laser pulses can be used in laser sensing applications, micro-matching, time-resolved experiments, where short-lived transient species can be observed in biological chemical reactions. Terahertz radiation can be generated using ultrashort pulses and used for imaging applications.

End The Nfl Blackout!, Richard C. Crepeau Sep 2009

End The Nfl Blackout!, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

Over the past week there has been some comment on the NFL television blackout policy that prohibits the televising of home games in the home market unless there has been a sellout 72 hours in advance of kickoff. Some, including Richard Sandomir of the New York Times, have suggested that in this time of economic crisis, when it appears that the number of sellouts of NFL games will be dropping, that Commissioner Goodell should end or suspend the blackout policy. This is a reasonable sentiment, although one might question if offering more blood and circuses offers a viable solution to …
