Enamel hypoplasia is considered a predisposing factor for initiation and progression of dental caries in both primary and permanent dentition. The complete etiology of this enamel defects, however, is still not clearly understood. The study described in this dissertation examined the prevalence of enamel hypoplasia in Chinese children and various factors associated with the defects using a cross-sectional epidemiological method. A modified Developmental Defects of Dental Enamel Index was developed to meet the study objectives. A total of 1,344 three- to five-year-old children were included in this study. Assessing Sick Building Syndrome In The Office Workplace, Mark Anthony Mikatavage

Notoriously "sick" buildings generate adverse publicity which may distort studies of the relationship between sick building syndrome (SBS) and indoor air quality. We surveyed 1135 workers from 42 smoke-free offices without the "sick" label to assess SBS in its wild state, to estimate its background prevalence, and to identify factors that influence the estimate. Questionnaires were randomly administered during routine physical examinations each workday for 4 months. One type of questionnaire mentioned that an SBS study was being conducted before assessing SBS-related symptoms, the second type assessed these symptoms without mentioning the SBS study and was used for comparison. There were six primary objectives of this study. The objectives included the determination of (1) baseline seasonal airborne fungal and bacterial levels in three normal or non-complaint office buildings in three different cities, (2) which monitored factors affect bioaerosol levels, (3) whether indoor and outdoor levels are correlated or from the same distribution, (4) median indoor/outdoor fungal ratio, (5) whether fungal genera found indoors are similar to those found outdoors, and (6) the coefficient of variation of the sampling method.
