Together with her husband, Franz von Benda-Beckmann, she conducted research in Indonesia for more than 40 years, inspiring and laying the foundation for many Indonesian legal scholars to conduct research in legal anthropology and socio-legal studies. The Benda-Beckmann's works have become key references for legal anthropologists, proponents of legal pluralism, and socio-legal scholar around the world, to the extent that their theories and methodologies—particularly those related to the concept of legal …

Civil Servant Disobedience: An Alternative Legal Strategy To Prevent Bureaucratic Pathology, Richo Andi Wibowo
The Indonesian Journal of Socio-Legal Studies
This paper seeks to provide conceptual and empirical justifications for civil servants to engage in disobedience to curb bureaucratic pathology. Various civil servants have long complained that they face illegal instructions from their superiors. The cases discussed here are from public procurement, which has a dimension of political corruption, a recurring problem in many places in Indonesia. Thus, the problem shall be seen as a bureaucratic pathology rather than as maladministration. As the reporting of superiors to legal enforcers may be too risky, the disobedience can be accomplished by refusing to cooperate with superiors who give illegal instructions. The term …

Feminism strives for gender equality, including in the workplace. However, feminism is sometimes received with hostility, as feminist women are perceived as angry and man-haters, known as misandrists. This study aims to examine the role of outgroup meta-prejudice and ingroup meta-prejudice in mediating the relationship between hostile sexism and discrimination against feminist women. A total of 708 Indonesian citizens aged at least 18 years old (Mage = 26.38, SDage = 5.65) participated in a cross-sectional online survey. The results showed that hostile sexism did not directly predict discrimination against feminist women. Instead, the association between hostile sexism and discrimination against …

This article evaluates the Environmental Protection and Management Law (UUPPLH) as amended by the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (UUPPLH-Ciptaker) and its implementing regulations. The evaluation uses the normative framework of the principle of non-regression to assess whether the provisions of the UUPPLH-Ciptaker and its implementing regulations represent a setback compared to the legal conditions prior to the enactment of the Omnibus Law. This paper argues that the changes introduced by the UUPPLH-Ciptaker indicate several regressions in Indonesia’s environmental law, particularly in the following areas: a) the weakening of provisions on Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) and Environmental Management and Monitoring …

Indonesia Law Review
One of the provisions in inheritance laws regarding the transfer of digital property after someone's death is a relatively new and evolving area of legal consideration. Inheritance laws were developed long before the widespread adoption of digital property, such as cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), online accounts, and other forms of digital property. As a result, existing inheritance laws often lack clear guidance on how to control the legal transfer of these digital assets upon the owner's death. This article aims to analyze the legal concept of digital property to be inherited and to provide solutions for current digital property inheritance …

This study investigates the relationship between donation intentions using crowdfunding and the risk of crowdfunding being used as a source of terrorism financing. Furthermore, it explores the mediating role of government intervention in this relationship. Using a Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) second-order approach, the research evaluates the interaction between donor intentions, crowdfunding risks, and government regulations. Findings reveal that while donor intentions significantly impact the …

Legal Perspectives On Information Asymmetry In Investor Selection For Public-Private Partnership Projects Under O&M Contract, Nhu Thi Thuy Cao, An Quoc Chau, Sang Minh Luu, Thao Minh Phuong Ngo, Ha Loc Pham, Anh Phuong Nguyen
Indonesia Law Review
Information asymmetry is a common barrier in selecting investors in the form of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), especially in the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contracts. This issue arises from the natural information advantage of the construction contractor and the incumbent investor in construction and operation. Although it does not stem from misconduct, such asymmetry still affects competitiveness and selection efficiency. The article analyzes the causes and legal consequences of this phenomenon through a comparative review of Vietnamese and Canadian legal frameworks while also assessing selected projects. The research methodology includes theoretical analysis, legal comparison, and a review of practical literature. The …

The Concept Of Maqāṣid Al-Sharī‘Ah And Maṣlaḥah In The Classical And Contemporary Tafsîr, Yusuf Wibisono, Femmy Roeslan
International Journal of Islamic Economics and Business Sustainability
A contemporary mufassir (Qur’anic exegete) employs the principle of al-‘ibrah bi maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah—that interpretation must refer to the objectives of Islamic law—in an effort to uncover the true meaning of the Qur’anic text. A purely literal reading of the Qur’an, without an understanding of its maqāṣid (objectives), faces many limitations. The maqāṣid approach emphasizes not only the wording of the text but also its underlying purposes and goals. The greatest strength of maqāṣid-based tafsīr (interpretation) lies in its ability to render the Qur’an always relevant, adaptable, and universally applicable. As an interpretive approach not strictly tied to …

Papillon–Lefèvre Syndrome: A Report Of Four Cases In One Family, Muhammed Abdullah Çege, Dilek Aynur Çankal, Ebru Binici, Bilge Turhan Bal
Journal of Dentistry Indonesia
Papillon–Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the cathepsin C gene and inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. The risk of its occurrence is heightened by consanguineous marriages. PLS affects both genders and presents with hyperkeratotic patches on the hands and feet and precocious aggressive periodontitis. Although teeth initially erupt normally, rapid resorption in periodontal tissues leads to swift tooth loss, and prosthetic rehabilitation is complicated due to aggressive alveolar bone resorption. Case report: In 2021, a brother and sister sought dental treatment at Gazi University’s Faculty of Dentistry. After thorough examinations, the brother underwent …

Using secondary data from the 2019 Program Performance and Accountability Survey in Indonesia, the cross-sectional analysis included 21,497 respondents. The results revealed an association between access to information on the TFD Program and family participation in child growth …

This study aimed to assess the outbreak potential of DHF in Lubuklinggau by analyzing the five-year trend of minimum and maximum case numbers (2019–2023) and comparing them with 2024 data using the epidemic threshold approach. A descriptive ecological study design was employed, with all primary health centers (puskesmas) in the city as units of analysis. Data sources included annual DHF surveillance reports from the District Health Office, field observations, demographic data from the …

Women writers have always contributed to literary development, but their works and thoughts have been structurally forgotten and erased. We conducted this research to unearth women writers' lives, works, and thoughts, which continue to be ignored in literary studies. We use feminist qualitative method and literature review technique to study literary initiatives from women writers in the past such as women-only periodicals. This research uses Virginia Woolf's thoughts as an analytical tool, and our findings show that the women-only space initiative was a response to the mainstream literary ecosystem's lack of support for women writers in various eras and countries. …

Jurnal Epidemiologi Kesehatan Indonesia
Stunting is still a nutritional problem and remains a major public health issue. Especially in Indonesia, the prevalence of stunting among children under two years old (toddlers) remains high, at 18.50%. The annual average rate of reduction of stunting among toddlers has been relatively slow for over the past 10 years. Therefore, optimizing stunting interventions-particularly during the first 1000 days of life is essential, including through antenatal care (ANC). This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of antenatal care and the incidence of stunting among children aged 6-23 months-old in Indonesia, after being controlled by the other …
