Jurnal Epidemiologi Kesehatan Indonesia
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease that poses a public health problem in tropical regions and is influenced by climatic factors such as temperature, rainfall, humidity, and wind speed. In 2023, Malang Regency recorded 1,018 cases with an incidence rate (IR) of 38.2 per 100,000 population. This study aims to analyze the relationship between climatic factors and the DF IR for the 2022–2024 period using an ecological design and Spearman’s correlation analysis. Climate data were obtained from the BMKG, while DF data were obtained from the Health Office. The results showed that only air temperature was significantly associated …

The monkeypox virus (MPXV), a DNA virus causing zoonotic disease, poses major global public health challenges, with mortality rates between 3%–6%. Although smallpox vaccines provide partial cross-protection, there is a critical need for a dedicated, effective monkeypox (mpox) vaccine. This study aimed to design a multi-epitope peptide-based vaccine specifically adapted to the HLA allele profiles common in Southeast Asian populations, where MPXV cases are rising. Using immunoinformatics, we screened for and detected B and T cell epitopes from the MPXV cell surface antigen and IFN-alpha/beta receptor proteins. The vaccine design was validated through a rigorous evaluation of its antigenicity, immunogenicity, …

Antibacterial Activity Of Endophytic Actinobacteria Isolated From Ziziphus Mauritiana Against Multidrug-Resistant Strains, Hafifatunil Khairani, Jepri Agung Priyanto, Muhammad Eka Prastya, Dwi Retnowati
Makara Journal of Science
Increasing resistance to existing antibiotics has led to a need for new alternative sources. Among the possibilities that need to be explored is the endophytic actinobacteria associated with Ziziphus mauritiana. The present study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of endophytic actinobacteria isolated from Z. mauritiana against five multidrug-resistant bacterial strains. Thirty actinobacteria isolates were obtained from the roots, stem, and leaves of the plant using the serial dilution technique. Using a double-layer agar test, we found that colonies from five of the 30 isolates (16%) exhibited antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and the M18 strain of Bacillus …

Journal of Indonesian Health Policy and Administration
This study analyzes the formulation and implementation process of Depok Mayor Regulation No. 61 of 2023 on Tuberculosis (TB) Control using Friedman’s legal system theory (1975) and the eight General Principles of Good Governance (Asas Umum Pemerintahan yang Baik – AUPB). The regulation provides a comprehensive framework, encompassing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative aspects to support TB control. The legal structure includes the establishment of a cross-sectoral Tuberculosis Control Acceleration Team, involving government agencies and community organizations. Findings reveal that while the regulation has fulfilled several AUPB principles, such as legal certainty, utility, and public interest, there are areas …

Most species ferment carbohydrates such as fructose, galactose, glucose, maltose, and mannose and produce an exotoxin called diphtheria toxin (DT) which can cause diphtheria, a respiratory infection characterized by sore throat and the production of a thick layer / gray pseudomembrane and generally affects children aged 15 years and under and is very vulnerable in people who are not immunized and in low immune systems. Diphtheria is a dangerous and life-threatening disease if …

Introduction: Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that spreads through the air. Based on data at the international and national levels, there has been an increase. Most pulmonary TB patients are cured with consecutive antibiotic treatment for 6-9 months, but there are still patients who eventually drop out of treatment. This could be a challenge in achieving the international tuberculosis elimination target of 2035 and the national target of 2030. Methods: This study analyzed the socio-demographic distribution and dropout analysis of Tuberculosis patients in Indonesia in 2023 based on SKI data with a cross-sectional study type. Results: The incidence of drug …

“We Just Go With The Flow”: Healthcare Providers As Secondary Impacted Subjects In Informal Refugee Healthcare Provision In Indonesia, Realisa D. Masardi, Elan Lazuardi
Masyarakat: Jurnal Sosiologi
With prolonged transit times, refugees’ right to health in Indonesia has become an urgent issue. This article asks how healthcare providers are positioned within Indonesia’s ambiguous refugee health provision regime. Drawing on qualitative fieldwork, this study moves beyond a legalistic analysis of refugee health rights by foregrounding the precarious positions of healthcare providers themselves. We examine Presidential Regulation 125/2016 as well as state and non-state actors’ views on what are often described as structural barriers in improving refugees’ rights. We argue that conditions of informality, which both arise from and perpetuate institutional ambiguity, systematically undermine refugees’ right to health while …

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19 was the leading disease in terms of the highest number of hospital admissions and cause of death at the Tarakan Regional General Hospital (RSUD Tarakan) in 2022. COVID-19 patients who received treatment at the hospital were often individuals with underlying conditions, such as hypertension. Therefore, it is important to conduct research on comorbidities, specifically hypertension, and its relationship to COVID-19 mortality at the RSUD Tarakan’s inpatient in 2022, so the hospital can design spesific care plans for COVID-19 patients with hypertension. …

Background: Antibiotics are used in daily practice. To properly select antibiotics, it is important to pay attention to the definitive diagnosis, class of antibiotic, dose, interval, route of administration, and exact duration of use.
Discussion: The World Health Organization (WHO) categorizes antibiotics into three groups: Access, Watch, and Reserve—known as the AWaRe classification—to help guide appropriate usage and combat antibiotic resistance. The Gyssens flowchart serves as a valuable tool for clinicians to qualitatively evaluate antibiotic utilization. In skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs), treatment strategies are tailored according to the characteristics of the infection, including purulence, necrosis, and overall severity. …

One of the best approaches to stop the COVID-19 pandemic is vaccination. In Indonesia, the first round of vaccinations was prioritized for health workers on January 14, 2021 (first dose) and March 1, 2021 (second dose). However, some health workers who have been vaccinated were found to be reinfected after receiving the second dose. This cross-sectional study examined the risk factors for COVID-19 infection among health workers after vaccination using secondary and primary data. The data analysis was carried out in univariate (examining the frequency distribution and proportion of independent variables), bivariate (Chi-square test to explore the relationship between independent …

Climate change poses significant challenges to vulnerable coastal communities in Indonesia. As a welfare state, the Indonesian government is expected to safeguard these vulnerable groups through policies that promote their welfare and sustainable livelihoods. However, current policies create a paradox. This article explores this paradox: on the one hand, Indonesia adheres to the welfare state principle, which demands that all government actions be grounded in law, ensuring public safety and welfare. On the other hand, the policies focus on exploiting natural resources, exacerbating the vulnerabilities of coastal communities, particularly in the face of climate change. The article employs a normative …

Tuberculosis (TB) in Indonesia is still a health problem. The TB prevalence in Indonesia ranks second in the world after India in 2023. Regional factors, inadequate healthcare facilities, and limited resources (financial, human, and infrastructure) are challenges requiring innovation to help the government control TB. TB eradication efforts need to be made with a comprehensive and effective approach. One method used is to look at the vast territory of Indonesia, therefore, mapping the TB disease vulnerability is a highly recommended method. The use of a Geographic Information System is expected to help map the TB vulnerability areas in Indonesia. Given …
