Protection Against Neutrophil Extracellular Trap (Net) Toxicity By Antioxidant Monoher, Puji Astuti, Danielle M A Beurskens, Tanja Vajen, Gerry A F Nicolaes, Ming Zhang, Guido R M M Haenen

Makara Journal of Health Research

Background: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NET) are extracellular fibers produced by activated neutrophils to kill bacteria. NET was recently found to be associated with several diseases, such as autoimmune diseases. NET formation, called NETosis, is reactive oxygen species (ROS) dependent, thereby, prompting us to study its inhibition by potent antioxidant monoHER as well as to study monoHER protection against NET toxicity caused by NET constituent histone 3 on endothelial cells. Methods: Freshly isolated neutrophils from male donors were stimulated with PMA to induce NET formation. The effect of monoHER (50 µM) on oxidative burst (O2●− production) and NET formation was determined …

Jurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia

Introduction. Silicosis is a disease that most often occurred as a result of silica dust exposure. Silica dust particles will stimulate alveolar macrophages to secrete proinflammatory mediators for fibroblast proliferation and collagen deposition. TGF-ß1 is one of the most extensively involved mediators in the development of fibrosis. To date, several studies have not shown consistent results regarding the association between silica dust exposure and TGF-β1. This study examined silica dust exposure and serum TGF-β1, which aims to determine the risk of silicosis in stone quarry workers. Methods. An analytic cross-sectional study was conducted at Company X, Karangasem in March 2016. …

Sequence Variability In The Nramp1 Geneamong Indigenous And Exotic Chicken Types, Abazuh Uchenna Desmond, Adekoya Khalid Olajide, Oboh Bola Olufunmilayo

Makara Journal of Science

The natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 (NRAMP1) gene in chickens, which exists on chromosome 7, is thought to play a significant role in disease resistance. Variations in this gene have been documented and have played crucial roles in the variations in the resistance and/or susceptibility that is expressed by individuals and different groups of animal species. In this study, the NRAMP1 gene was studied for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) variability between indigenous and exotic chicken breeds. The gene was amplified using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and sequenced and analyzed. Six SNPs, both synonymous and non-synonymous (C3700T, G3702C, A3712C, …
