From Rubbish To Cultural Identity; Making Archaeology Relevant For The Contemporary Community, Irmawati Marwoto
Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia
Archaeological relevance for the present has become an important issue in the world of archaeology. This paper aims to examine how the biography of artefacts of pottery fragments from the old Banten site, the site of Banten Sultanate of the sixteenth century AD, became a marker of the cultural identity of Banten people today. These pottery fragments were studied using Michael Thompson’s rubbish theory (1979), which observes how the value of objects shifts from transient to rubbish to durable. Using the rubbish theory, archaeological practices that have only been aimed at scientific purposes can be useful for the people of …

Indonesia And Central Asia: Romanticizing Authoritarian Regime In The Past?, Mochamad Aviandy
International Review of Humanities Studies
Even though countries in Central Asia and Indonesia seem to be unrelated, both actually have experienced authoritarian regime and implemented decentralization system after that regime collapsed. Nevertheless, decentralization along with non-authoritarian regime does not automatically bring the desired good result since a new authoritarian regime based on decentralization appears. As a result, the citizens long for the welfare of the centralism system. Before talking further about the comparison of both regions, it is better to have a good understanding of each region.

Self-Identification And Repositioning Of The Tengananese In The Discourse Of Adat Community In Bali, I Wayan Suyadnya
Masyarakat: Jurnal Sosiologi
Along with the Hindu religion and culture, adat is recognized as a strong characteristic to describe the level of kebalian (Baliness). Adat appears as a control for the emergence of social, religious, and cultural problems. In practice, it also shows a strong dominance to discipline members of community to adhere to state regulations. However, the discourse on adat also provides an illustration of how adat can be used as a differentiating strategy in everyday customary practices. In performing an ethnographic study in Tenganan Pegringsingan, a community that in colonial literature is referred as “Bali Aga”, this article investigates how adat …

Relevansi Pendekatan Posdisipliner Pada Kajian Stratejik Global Dan Revolusi Industri “3.0”, “4.0”, Akhyar Yusuf Lubis
Jurnal Kajian Stratejik Ketahanan Nasional

The film was sponsored directly by the army (Kartika Eka Paksi Foundation and TNI) and involved the army in its making process. Therefore, the historical representation of this film is a history from the army’s point of view. Referring to Gramsci, a film can be seen as a hegemonic apparatus that contributes to the process of negotiating the interests of dominant groups. This study attempted to elaborate such representations of civil-military relationships and masculinity construction contained in …

Investigating Indonesian Conversation; Approach And Rationale, Michael C. Ewing
Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia
Colloquial Indonesian has often been described in terms of its differences from standard Indonesian, but with such an approach, aspects of informal language usage will go unexplored. This article proposes using the theoretical approach of Interactional Linguistics to more adequately describe the dynamic nature of Indonesian as actually used by its speakers. Interactional Linguistics emphasizes usage-based analysis of natural language data, especially conversation, in order to understand relationships between social actions and language structure. This article gives an overview of Interactional Linguistics, illustrated by two short English examples taken form the literature. It then presents an analysis of two aspects …

The First Standard Grammar Of Malay; George Werndly’S 1736 Maleische Spraakkunst, Waruno Mahdi
Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia
A brief biography of George Henrik Werndly and description of contemporaneous development of linguistics is followed by a perusal of Melchior Leydekker’s and Petrus van der Vorm’s policy of strictly using Classical Malay in Christian publication, that served as basis of Werndly’s work. Then, a detailed perusal of Werndly’s 1736 Malay grammar, in particular the divisions (“books”) on (I) spelling, (II) morphology, and (III) syntax, is illustrated by reproductions of original text passages. Elements of the complicated Latin-script spelling are demonstrated in detail and compared with that of other authors in separate tables. Werndly’s grammatical terminology is considered, and where …
Prospek Diplomasi Indonesia Dalam Kerjasama Selatan-Selatan: Refleksi Teoritis Kajian Kapitalisme Konsumen Di Era Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Ziyad Falahi
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional

Study of consumer capitalism is relevant in analyzing the case of South-South cooperation that reflects new model of international division of labor. Consumer capitalism divides Southern countries into two types, producers, such as China, India, Brazil, and Russia, and consumers, such as Indonesia. Indonesian government's plan to be vital part of South-South Cooperation needs to be requestioned, considering Indonesia's economy that heavily relied on consumption. Consumer capitalism can become a buffer of the Indonesian economy to face the 2008 global crisis, but its …

Transformation Of Post-Authoritarian Rural Development In Indonesia: A Study Of Farmer Breeder Community Development In West Bandung Regency, Rahmalia Rifandini
Masyarakat: Jurnal Sosiologi
The idea of post-authoritarian rural development is seen as the transformation of rural development since it no longer places the village as an object of development characterized by the demand for the preparation of rural development instruments. However, in practice, the development instruments do not result in the improvement of agricultural and livestock productivity as it happened in Kampung Pasir Angling, Suntenjaya Village, West Bandung Regency, West Java. Using a critical development perspective, the study argues that rural development transformation may apply if not limited to changes in public policy strategies, but rather to the social change in various sectors …
