Vicia subgenus Vicia (Fabaceae) contains several economically important food and forage legume species. Generally, the taxonomy and identification of these species have relied heavily on a few diagnostic morphological characters (e.g., the number of flowers per inflorescence). However, there are several specimens with intermediate morphological characters that make diagnosis of these species using those characters a difficult task for nonspecialists and render results that are not always accurate. The effectiveness of different arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on different hybrid cucumber cultivars has not been well documented, even under normal seedling conditions. The present study therefore aimed to evaluate colonization, nutrient uptake, dependency, and other seedling traits of 4 cucumber hybrids (Ceren F_1, Beta F_1, Silyon F_1 and Maraton F_1) inoculated by 3 different AMF [Glomus intraradices (Gi), Glomus etunicatum (Ge) and Gigaspora margarita (Gm)]. The effects of inoculum concentrations and the aggressiveness of spot blotch (Bipolaris sorokiniana (Sacc.) Shoemaker) isolates were evaluated on the resistance of 123 winter wheat advanced breeding lines developed from European winter wheat as well as on 3 control cultivars, BR8, BH1146, and Zentos. The prevalence of Potato spindle tuber pospiviroid (PSTVd) infection in randomly selected potato tubers was determined via nonisotopic dot blot hybridization and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). In January and February of 2010, 168 seedling tubers of Solanum tuberosum, representing 27 cultivars, were received from different seedling potato producers in Turkey. Digoxigenin-labeled RNA probes of PSTVd were synthesized from the cloned PCR products and applied in dot blot hybridization to detect viroids in RNA extracts isolated from dormant potato tubers. The aim of this study was to estimate patterns of the mating system in 2 natural Cedrus libani A.Rich. populations in Elmalı, Antalya, with the aid of isozyme markers. Isozyme analysis was performed on both maternal and embryo tissues of the seeds collected from Avlankuzu and Çamkuyusu populations. Eleven loci encoding 8 enzyme systems were analyzed. The Avlankuzu and Çamkuyusu populations were a homogeneous and similar gene pool for the loci studied. Boron efficiency of 16 oilseed rape genotypes was tested using both hydroponic and pot-soil growing techniques. From the nutrient solution experiment (0.1 and 10 µM B), 4 representative contrasting genotypes were selected based on relative root and shoot growth. These were then grown in pots with low-B soil (0.25 mg kg^{-1}). From the nutrient solution experiment, 2 genotypes selected as B-inefficient did not show any growth disorders, and the concentration of B in the shoots was above critical. The results of studying the effects of sunflower seed priming with an aqueous solution of ascorbic acid (A), tocopherol (T), and glutathione (G) performed prior to accelerated ageing and a cold test are presented in this paper. Germination, the percentage of abnormal seedlings, and the lengths of both roots and shoots were monitored. The results showed that the cold test caused a drastic drop in germination, an adverse effect on the shoot length, an increase in the percentage of abnormal seedlings, and no effect on the root length. The effect of soil chemical properties on the diversity and colonization of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM) varies among ecosystems. This study was conducted to assess and compare the abundance of AM in a rehabilitated forest and a logged-over forest soil using the most probable number and spore number methods. Glomus (71.7%-82.1%) and Acaulospora (17.4%-19.5%) were found to be abundant in both sites, while Gigaspora was found only in the logged-over forest. The root distribution pattern of 3 grape rootstocks, Dog Ridge, Salt Creek, and St. George, grafted with Thompson Seedless grapevine was studied at the National Research Centre for Grapes in Pune, India. Two Japanese-type plum (Prunus salicina Lindell) cultivars, 'Autumn Giant' and 'Black Beauty', were harvested at commercial maturity stage and either packed in nonperforated modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) or treated with a 500 ppb dose of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) alone or given a combination of 1-MCP and MAP. After these treatments, the plum samples were stored at 0 °C for 60 days. This study was undertaken to investigate the antifungal effect of DL-limonene on yeasts using disk diffusion and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The effect of DL-limonene on ethyl alcohol fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae was also investigated. According to disk diffusion results, the development of an inhibition zone was observed in all microorganisms tested. The inhibition zones were larger than those occurring with the Fungizone antibiotic used as the control. Inhibition zone diameters increased with increasing amounts of DL-limonene. Temperature is the most important factor in regulating the germination of nondormant seeds at the beginning of the growth season. The present study was conducted to produce simple regression models to predict how temperature affects the time it takes for 50% of a selection of flax seeds to germinate. R-square (r^2) values of regression coefficients of the equations established for flax cultivars varied from 0.899 (Antares) to 0.886 (Bionda). The optimum temperature for the time to germination for both cultivars was calculated using the coefficients obtained from the regression models. Essential oils extracted by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of naturally growing and field grown plants of Salvia cryptantha Montbert & Aucher ex Benthan were analyzed by GC-MS. Furthermore, the chemical components of naturally growing and cultured plants in 2 consecutive years (2007-2008) were compared. The essential oils of plant materials investigated ranged from 1.20% up to 1.52%. Nine for naturally growing and 22 components for both 2007-08 field grown crops were characterized, representing 94.75%, 95.82%, and 93.35%, respectively. Valencene (31.80%), eucalyptol (23.61%), and \beta-pinene (15.63%) were recognized as major components.

Seeds of 14 commonly found plant species from 3 different families (Brassicaceae, Dipsacaceae, and Asteraceae) were investigated for 1000-seed weights (g), total oil (%), total protein (%), total soluble sugar contents (TSS; mg g^{-1}), and fatty acid compositions (%). Correlation coefficients of fatty acids from different families were investigated, as well. Palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic, eicosenoic, and erucic acids were present in varying amounts. Within the family Brassicaceae, only Cardaria draba did not contain eicosenoic and erucic acids, while species of the Asteraceae and Dipsacaceae did not contain linolenic, eicosenoic, or erucic acids. Apricot germplasm collection and characterization are the essential stages of breeding programs for diversity. Traditionally, germplasm collection and characterization are performed by describing phenological, pomological, and morphological characteristics of the germplasm. In this study, 93 apricot accessions and 1 apricot × plum hybrid (Kayısı Eriği) were collected from different regions of Turkey and were evaluated for 57 morphological UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants) characteristics, along with 13 pomological traits. Oscillation Of Third-Order Nonlinear Delay Difference Equations, Mustafa Fahri̇ Aktaş, Aydin Ti̇ryaki̇, Ağacik Zafer

Third-order nonlinear difference equations of the form \Delta (c_n\Delta (d_n\Delta x_n))+p_n\Delta x_{n+1}+q_nf(x_{n-\sigma})=0, n\geq n_{0} are considered. Here, {c_n}, {d_n}, {p_n}, and {q_n} are sequences of positive real numbers for n_0 \in N, f is a continuous function such that f(u) /u\geq K > 0 for u \neq 0. By means of a Riccati transformation technique we obtain some new oscillation criteria. Examples are given to illustrate the importance of the results.

Ludwigia L. (Onagraceae) species are known to be invasive in most parts of the world, serving as a threat to native plant species and blocking navigational channels. In Africa, they block waterways and are serious weeds in wet fields, most especially in rice paddies. The floral morphology, mode of sexual reproduction, and mechanism of fruit dispersal in water of L. leptocarpa (Nutt.) H.Hara and L. adscendens (L.) H.Hara subsp. diffusa (Forssk.)
