The Oligocene (Rupelian-Chattian) to Miocene (Aquitanian)-aged Asmari Formation is considered one of the most significant petroliferous reservoirs in the Middle East. The Oligocene-Miocene Asmari Formation represents diverse facies patterns in different parts of Zagros, so analysis of its facies in different provinces of the Zagros Basin is necessary. In this study, the sedimentary depositional sequences of Asmari Formation in the Firuzabad (south of Shiraz) and Bastak (west of Bandar-Abbas) sections in the Zagros Basin (Fras Platform) have been analyzed for distinguishing facies characteristics, interpreting the paleoenvironment and determining dominant depositional sequences. Based on field investigations and laboratory studies, 13 microfacies …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: We aimed to reveal the incidence and predictive role of insulin resistance and distorted oral glucose tolerance test in nondiabetic patients with Bell's Palsy (BP). Materials and methods: Eighty-six patients with BP and 28 control subjects; all with normal blood glucose levels and no history of diabetes, were enrolled in the study. We investigated insulin resistance (IR) in all subjects, in terms of HOMA-IR greater than 2.7. Sixtytwo of the patients also underwent an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Results: The mean HOMA-IR value was significantly increased in patients, compared to the control group (3.2 vs 1.6; P < 0.01). IR was detected more in BP patients than in controls (P < 0.05). The patients with higher HOMA-IR values had more severe facial dysfunction at the initial presentation and complete recovery time took longer than the patients with normal HOMA-IR value (75 days vs 42 days; P < 0.05). Following a 2h-OGTT, impaired glucose tolerance and newly diagnosed DM were found in 60% of the patients. Recovery time was significantly longer in prediabetics and newly diagnosed diabetic patients than in patients with normal glycemia (68 days, 52 days, and 32 days, respectively; P < 0.01). Conclusion: There is a strong linkage between HOMA-IR value and BP prognosis so HOMA-IR value may have a significant role of predicting BP prognosis at presentation.

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Biomedical relation extraction is an important preliminary step for knowledge discovery in the biomedical domain. This paper proposes a multiple classifier system (MCS) for the extraction of chemical-induced disease relations. A genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to select classifier ensembles from a pool of base classifiers. Moreover, the voting method used for combining the members of each of the ensembles is also selected during evolution in the GA framework. The performances of the MCSs are determined by the algorithms used for selecting the classifiers, the diversity among the selected classifiers, and the voting method used in the classifier combination. The …

A Novel Genome Analysis Method With The Entropy-Based Numerical Techniqueusing Pretrained Convolutional Neural Networks, Bi̇hter Daş, Suat Toraman, İbrahi̇m Türkoğlu
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The identification of DNA sequences as exon and intron is a common problem in genome analysis. The methods used for feature extraction and mapping techniques for the digitization of sequences affect directly the solution of this problem. The existing mapping techniques are not enough to detect coding and noncoding regions in some genomes because the digital representation of each base in a DNA sequence with an integer does not fully reflect the structure of an original DNA sequence. In the entropy-based mapping technique, we could overcome this problem because the technique deepens distinction rates of exon regions, and better reflects …

Pell-Lucas Collocation Method To Solve High-Order Linear Fredholm-Volterra Integro-Differential Equations And Residual Correction, Şuayi̇p Yüzbaşi, Gamze Yildirim
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this article, a collocation method based on Pell-Lucas polynomials is studied to numerically solve higher order linear Fredholm-Volterra integro differential equations (FVIDE). The approximate solutions are assumed in form of the truncated Pell-Lucas polynomial series. By using Pell-Lucas polynomials and relations of their derivatives, the solution form and its derivatives are brought to matrix forms. By applying the collocation method based on equally spaced collocation points, the method reduces the problem to a system of linear algebraic equations. Solution of this system determines the coefficients of assumed solution. Error estimation is made and also a method with the help …

Positive Periodic Solutions For A Class Of Second-Order Differential Equations With State-Dependent Delays, Ahleme Bouakkaz, Rabah Khemis
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we consider a class of second order differential equations with iterative source term. The main results are obtained by virtue of a Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem and some useful properties of a Green's function which allows us to prove the existence of positive periodic solutions. Finally, an example is included to illustrate the correctness of our results.

This method is composed of the operational matrix and collocation methods, which are based upon the matrix forms of the Lerch polynomials with the parameter $\lambda$ and Taylor polynomials, and their derivatives and integrals. The approximate solutions of the mentioned equations are investigated in terms of the Lerch polynomials the different values of $\lambda$. Also, to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the present method, an alternative convergence criterion along with error analysis depending on residual function …
Polarization Of Neural Codes, Katie Christensen, Hamid Kulosman
Polarization Of Neural Codes, Katie Christensen, Hamid Kulosman
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The neural rings and ideals as an algebraic tool for analyzing the intrinsic structure of neural codes were introduced by C. Curto, V. Itskov, A. Veliz-Cuba, and N. Youngs in 2013. Since then they were investigated in several papers, including the 2017 paper by S. Güntürkün, J. Jeffries, and J. Sun, in which the notion of polarization of neural ideals was introduced. In our paper we extend their ideas by introducing the notions of polarization of motifs and neural codes. We show that the notions that we introduce have very nice properties which allow the studying of the intrinsic structure …
