Increasing The Biocompatibility Of Graphene-Based Hybrid Nanostructures With Glycopolymer, Aydan Dağ, Pinar Si̇nem Omurtag Özgen, Belma Zengi̇n Kurt, Zehra Durmuş

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Hybrid nanostructures decorated with glycopolymers are appropriate for biomedical applications. In this paper, the results are obtained from nanographene (NG) decorated with glycoblock copolymer to increase their potential in use in therapies and in examining lectin interactions. A pyren-1-ylmethyl 4-cyano-4-((phenylcarbonothioyl)thio)pentanoate (CPADB-py) chain transfer agent was used in the synthesis of methyl methacrylate glycoblock copolymers (P2 and P3) by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization to adhere the polymer to the nanographene surface. Hybrid nanographenes (NG-1 and NG-2) were obtained by the non-covalent interaction of deprotected P2 and P3 with different fructopyranose groups (3-O-methacryloyl-1,2:4,5- di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-fructopyranose and 1-O-methacryloyl-2,3:4,5-di-O-isopropylidene-β-D-fructopyranose) in their backbones. Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Microwave irradiation has become a routine technique in homogeneous and effective heating in organic synthesis. However, its application in enzyme-containing reactions is limited since it can cause denaturation of the enzyme. In this study, we have briefly investigated the effect of microwave heating on the conjugation reaction of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with aldehyde derivative of dextran (D-CHO). The reaction was irradiated by microwave at 50 °C for 5 min. The conjugate was confirmed via GPC, in which the conjugates of HRP and D-CHO coexist with free unbound HRP molecules. Activity studies of HRP revealed that there is a small decrease …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Quercetin, a multifunctional therapeutic agent, is used in various types of cancer. However, its therapeutic effect is limited by virtue of poorly aqueous solubility and instability in the physiological medium. To overcome these limitations, we aimed (i) to design quercetin loaded liposomes with unlinked-PEG4000 with regard to not only surface modification but also solubility enhancement, and (ii) to investigate the antineoplastic effects on HeLa cells. PEG4000 increased the quercetin solubility 2.2 fold. PEG4000 modified liposomes displayed small particle size (254 ± 69 nm), low polydispersity index (0.236 ± 0.018), favorable zeta potential (-35.4 ± 0.6 mV), high quercetin encapsulation efficiency …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The synthesis of fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and their applications have attracted great attention due to their excellent properties. Especially, the unique visible-light absorption and photo-induced electron transfer properties make CQDs available in photocatalytic degradation of organic dye pollutants in water resources. Herein, we synthesized nondoped CQDs and boron-doped CQDs (B-CQDs) by hydrothermal method and compared their photocatalytic degradation activity of methylene blue (MB) and methyl red (MR) dyes under visible light irradiation. The characterization outcomes showed that the optical and structural properties can be easily improved by doping with hetero-atom, thereby photocatalytic performance. As expected, the photodegradation performance …

Analyzing Bifurcation, Stability, And Chaos Control For A Discrete-Time Prey-Predator Model With Allee Effect, Fi̇gen Kangalgi̇l, Ni̇lüfer Topsakal, Ni̇hal Öztürk

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, the qualitative behavior of a discrete-time prey-predator model with Allee effect in prey population is discussed. Firstly, the existence of the fixed points and their topological classification are analyzed algebraically. Then, the conditions of existence for both period-doubling and Neimark--Sacker bifurcations arising from coexistence fixed point with the help of the center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory are investigated. OGY feedback control method is implemented to control chaos in the proposed model due to the emergence of bifurcations. Finally, numerical simulations are performed to support the theoretical findings.

Inverse Nodal Problems For Dirac Type Integro Differential System With A Nonlocal Boundary Condition, Baki̇ Keski̇n

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

In this paper, the Dirac type integro differential system\ with a nonlocal integral boundary condition is considered. First, we derive the asymptotic expressions for the solutions and large eigenvalues. Second, we provide asymptotic expressions for the nodal points and prove that a dense subset of nodal points uniquely determines the boundary condition parameter and the potential function of the considered differential system. We also provide an effective procedure for solving the inverse nodal problem.
