Fruits of Capparis spinosa L. var. spinosa and Capparis ovata Desf. var. canescens (Coss.) Heywood 0.7-1.9 cm in diameter were collected and brined. The crude oil, fiber and pH, starch, water-soluble, alcohol-soluble and ether-soluble extracts, and the Na, Mn and Zn contents of C. spinosa fruits were higher than those of C. ovata, while they contained less oleic and linoleic acids. The crude protein, oil, fiber and energy, reducing sugars, starch, total carotenoids, ether-soluble extract, hardness, K, P, Cu, Mn, Zn, palmitic and oleic contents of the fermented products were considerably lower compared with the raw fruits. This experiment was planned to research the possibilities of the use of embryo culture on seedless grape breeding. Samples of Sultani çekirdeksiz (Thompson Seedless), Ergin çekirdeksizi, 3A-261, Perlette, Pembe çekirdeksiz, 2B-56, Flame Seedless and King's Ruby seedless grape varieties were used. In the first year of experiment, pollen viability and germination, amount of pollen production and their morphological homogenity levels were determined. In the second year, plants were tried to obtain from seedless x seedless crossess by embryo culture. The aim of this research is to find out the effects of yeast-ie one of the single cell protein, grown on liquid paraffin media (paprin) to be replaced instead of fish meal for protein quality and quantity. Investigations On The Fertilization Biology Of Some Sweet Cherry Varieties Grown In Pozantı Ecological Conditions, Mehmet Sütyemez, Si̇nan Eti̇

In this study, fertizilation biology of 7 cherry varieties (Sarı, Ömerli, Aksehir Napolyonu, 0900 Ziraat, Merton Marvel, Merton Bigarreau and Noble) was investigated between 1992 and 1993 in Pozanti Research Center. For this purpose, fruit set level in free pollination, self and cross pollination; fruit weight, seed weight, fruit flesh/seed weight ratio, TSS, were examinated. For Sari and Noble all varieties were found to be good pollinizers. Fruit set level changed between 1 % and 45 %. Different pollinizers did not have significant effect on the fruit quality criteria.

Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera, Aphididae) obtained from cotton fields near Adana in the east Mediterranean region of Turkey were colonized on Gossypium hirsutumL. Çukurova 1518 in a climatic room. The effect of host transfer from cotton to common mallow, Malva sylvestris L., and okra, Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) In this study, carried out during 1992-1994, Aphonse Lavallee, Cardinal, Çavuş and Hafızali grape CVs were grafted on the Vitis berlandieri x Vitis riparia Kober 5BB and S04 rootstocks by omega and chip-budding grafting types under nursery conditions. In this study, morphology of chromosomes was determined via karyotype and idiogram analysis in Nutria 7272 line of hexaploid (2n=42) triticale obtained from CIMMYT. On the bases of the presence or absence of satellites and the arm ratio, the chromosome complement was divided into four groups; satellited, median, submedian and subterminal chromosomes. Of the 42 chromosomes present in Nutria 7272 karyotype, 4 were satellited, 14 median, 18 submedian and 6 subterminal. The effects of different sowing dates (1st February and 1st March) and row spacings (30, 45 and 60 cm) on yield and quality characteristics of four sugarbeet cvs. (Evita, Sonja, Fiona and Anadolumono) were studied in Hatay ecological conditions in 1996 and 1997. Delayed sowings affected negatively all the yield and quality characteristics, and due to one month delaying of sowing root and sucrose yield decreased 8.06 % and 8.64% in 1996, and 37.7% and 40.4% in 1997, respectively. Conformational energy-minimization of the Sea Anemone and Sea Pansy neuropeptide Pol-RFamide (Glu^1-Leu^2-Leu^3-Gly^4-Gly^5-Arg^6-Phe^7-NH_2) was carried out by molecular mechanics (MM). The linkage bonds were characterized by the torsion angles \theta, \psi and \omega and the side groups were characterized by the torsion angles \chi_1, \chi_2, \chi_3\ldots The energy-map for each monopeptide of the Pol-RFamide I was drawn in the range of -180° to 180° with increments of 20°. Conformation facilities for monopeptides were determined from these maps. These results were used in the analysis of the dipeptide (Glu^1-Leu^2). The solvent effect on Verongia aerophoba metabolites during the extraction and isolation processes were examined in this study. A major compound (6), a stereoisomer of fistularin-3, and a new compound (2) were isolated from the acetone extract of dried and ethanol extract of fresh V. aerophoba samples respectively. The structures of these metabolites were elucidated using spectroscopic methods.

Autocatalytic Reduction Of Dichloro 5, 10, 15, 20 Tetraphenylporphinatoplatinum(Iv) By 1-Methylimidazole, F. Ece Bulak

It was observed that in toluene solution, excess 1-methyl-imidazole (Melm) reduces dichloro 5, 10, 15, 20 tetraphenyl-porphinatoplatinum(IV) (PtTPPCl_2) to tetraphenylporphinato-platinum(II) (PtTPP) autocatalytically (Fig. 1). There was no Pt(III) intermediate or 1-methylimidazole radical detected by Electron Resonance Spectroscopy (ESR) at 25°C. The reaction was found to be autocatalyzed by the PtTPP product when the 1-methylimidazole to PtTPPCl_2 concentration ratio is about 10^4 or more. From the data obtained it is reasonable to suppose that aggregation of the PtTPP product with PtTPPCl_2 plays an important role in this reduction process.

A modified potentiometric titration is proposed for the estimation of phenol in aqueous systems. The method is evolved on the basis of a critical dependence of pH on log V rather than simple V, as used in conventional potentiometric titrations. The method incorporates titrants in a concentration range several orders of magnitude greater than that of phenol in the aqueous phase. Derivative potentiometric curves so obtained provide a clear exposition of the equivalence point and the overall error is found to be between \pm 1.0 and 1.5%. New coordination compounds of the type [Ti(C_2O_4)_2L]2H_2O where L=N-alkyl phenothiazines (NAPs) were synthesised and characterised by elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic, thermal and spectral data. The spectral data suggest the bidentate nature of NAPs in the complexes. An octahedral structure is proposed for all the complexes. Thermal studies were used to evaluate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters.

Polycylic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), such as petroleum and petroleum derivatives, are widespread organic pollutants entering the environment, chiefly, through oil spills and incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. Since most PAHs are persist in the environment for a long period of time and bioaccumulate, they cause environmental pollution and effect biological equilibrium dramatically. Variations in the fatty acids compositions of muscle tissue, due to starving and feeding Cyprinion macrostomus (Heckel, 1843) at 35 and 24°C which naturally lives at 35±0.5°C in the Kan-gal Thermal Spring (Sivas) were investigated. No qualitative variation took place in the fatty acid composition of the fish which were fed and star-ved at 35°C. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) change of various substituted aromatic compounds, namely benzoic acid, p-aminobenzoic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, sulfanilic acid, nitro benzene, resorcinol, p-cresol, o- cresol, o-toluidine, aniline and 8-hydroxyquinoline were investigated at ozone doses of 5, 10, 15 and 20 mg O_{3}\cdotmin^{-1}, respectively. Percent COD removal of initial compounds after ozonation was compared with reported biodegradation results. The pH change and percent removal of selected compounds were also evaluated in ozone does of 20 mg O_{3}\cdotmin^{-1} up to 80 min. ozonation. The contribution of different nitrogen sources (nitrate 15 N-NO 3 and symbiotic N-N 2 ) to the nitrogen status of soybean in ontogenesis was studied. Nitrate was assimilated effectively during the vegetative growth, whereas later on the nitrogen-fixation by root nodules became the basic source of nitrogen. The applying of a low dose of nitrate (22.2 mg N/plant) increased the total nitrogen content in the plant and did not depress the nitrogen fixation. Distribution of the symbiotic and nitrate nitrogen among organs of soybean was proportional.

The variation between wild barley lines ( Hordeum murinum, Hordeum bulbosumand Hordeum vulgare spontaneum) orig-inated from Turkey were investigated comparatively at the molecular level with the Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. Leaf DNAs extracted from different barley lines were amplified with randomly chosen primers in a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Rates of polymorphisms between the 23 lines were determined in pairwise comparisons. The lowest value of poly-morphism was determined to be 0.3% between wild barley lines numbered 50327 and 50354, and between 48101 and 50365 while the highest polymorphism value was determined to be 60% between wild barley lines …

The extracts prepared from the samples which were collected weekly intervals betweeen August and December in 1990 and 1992 were analyzed by thin layer chromatography and the changes in phenolic substances during flower bud developmental stages in strawberries were examined.
