Background/aim: This study aimed to evaluate the metabolic profile of adults with Down syndrome (DS) using novel anthropometric and metabolic indices, while also highlighting the limitations of traditional obesity assessment methods compared with the non-DS population.

Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study included 22 adults with DS and 28 age- and sex-matched non-DS controls. Anthropometric measurements, including BMI, waist circumference (WC), and hip circumference (HC), were recorded alongside novel indices such as waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), body adiposity index (BAI), A body shape index (ABSI), and visceral adiposity index (VAI). Background/aim: Malnutrition and muscle wasting are common in terminal cancer patients and adversely affect prognosis. Bedside muscle ultrasonography (US) has emerged as a practical tool to assess nutritional status and monitor therapy. This study evaluated the relationship between achieving individualized nutritional targets and changes in muscle indices measured by US in terminal cancer patients receiving palliative care.

Hesperidin Efficacy Of Epidural Fibrosis In A Post Laminectomy Rat Model: An Experimental Study, Emrah Keski̇n, Mehmet Seli̇m Gel

Background/aim: Epidural fibrosis (EF) plays a significant role in the development of failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS). This study evaluates the antifibrotic effect of hesperidin, a citrus-derived bioflavonoid, within a rat laminectomy model.

Materials and methods: Thirty-two female Wistar albino rats were randomized into four groups (n = 8 each). Group 1 received laminectomy alone (control); Group 2 received a gelatin sponge; Groups 3 and 4 intraperitoneally received 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg of hesperidin, respectively, for 7 days post-laminectomy. After 6 weeks, epidural tissues were assessed histopathologically, and hydroxyproline levels were measured.

Background/aim: In-stent restenosis (ISR) remains a significant clinical challenge in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary interventions. We investigated the association between Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) and ISR in patients with chronic coronary syndrome.

Materials and methods: A total of 1007 patients who underwent coronary angiography for a provisional diagnosis of chronic coronary syndrome between March 1, 2019, and July 1, 2022, were included in the study. Background/aim: The child oral and motor proficiency scale (ChOMPS) is a parent-reported assessment that evaluates a child’s eating and drinking skills within the framework of all related motor functions. It has been found to be useful in research studies and recommended in reviews. The purpose of this study was to perform the translation and cultural adaptation of the English version of the ChOMPS to Turkish and conduct psychometric testing of the ChOMPS–Turkish version, including reliability and validity.

Abamectin (ABM) is a widely used pesticide in agriculture and aquaculture worldwide. However, limited information is available on the toxic impacts of ABM on nontarget marine organisms, necessitating further research to investigate the toxic impacts of ABM on marine life. Temperature changes and nanoparticle exposure have emerged as critical environmental stressors with potential cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on aquatic species. This study investigates the impact of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), synthesized using Plantago major leaves, on Oncorhynchus mykiss gonadal (RTG-2) cells under different temperature conditions (23 °C, 24 °C, and 25 °C). RTG-2 cells were exposed to hexagonal ZnO NPs (≤100 nm) at concentrations of 6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, 75, and 100 μg/mL for 24 and 48 h. The interaction concerning rhizospheric fungi and plants is essential for enhancing plant resilience in the face of abiotic stress conditions. This study investigated the effects of the rhizospheric fungus Aspergillus terreus on maize (Zea mays L.) growth under both drought and waterlogging conditions. Our findings confirmed that inoculation with A. terreus mitigated the adverse effects of drought and waterlogging conditions on maize growth. Plants treated with Aspergillus terreus (A. terreus) exhibited enhanced root and shoot length, fresh and dry weight as well as enhanced chlorophyll content in plants compared to control, under stress-related conditions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of storage temperature on the quality and phytochemical characteristics in Sultan hawthorn cultivar during cold storage and shelf life. This study examines the effect of different doses of N and P fertilizer on Calendula officinalis L. (marigold) during the hot weather in summer (May–July) in Pakistan. Bread wheat is a globally vital crop, sustaining millions and contributing to food security. The present study investigated the molecular characterization of 60 bread wheat accessions, using 12 interprimer binding site (iPBS) retrotransposon markers, which yielded a total of 260 distinct bands. Out of the 260 bands, 42 were monomorphic while the remaining 218 (83.84%) were polymorphic, with polymorphism information content values ranging from 0.38 to 0.45. Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using plant materials allows the production of low-cost and biocompatible nanoparticles without the use of toxic compounds or solvents. In this study, biogenic AgNP/Mg nanoparticles were synthesized using the Melanoleuca grammopodia mushroom. Vitamin C and E contents of the mushroom were 42.6 mg/g and 26.82 mg/g, respectively. FTIR analysis revealed the reducing and stabilizing effects of bioactive components present in M. grammopodia mushroom extract. Rapeseed and mustard (Brassica spp.) are critical oilseed crops contributing significantly to global edible oil production. In India, Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) dominates Brassica cultivation, yet the country remains heavily dependent on edible oil imports due to insufficient domestic production. Enhancing seed vigor, a key determinant of crop establishment and yield, offers a promising avenue for improving productivity. In this study, the relationship between the Growth Differentiation Factor-9 (GDF9) gene polymorphism and birth weight, as well as weights on days 30, 60, 90, was investigated in Akkaraman lambs, one of the indigenous sheep breeds of Türkiye. For this purpose, a total of 314 lambs were genotyped by PCR-RFLP method for the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) c.260G>A in the GDF9 gene. While GG and GA genotypes were observed in the studied breed, the AA genotype was not observed. The results showed that Akkaraman lambs were in Hardy–Weinberg (H–W) equilibrium for the GDF9-c.260G>A polymorphism (p < 0.05). In this study, a significant association was observed between GDF9-HhaI polymorphism and 30th day weight and 60th day weight in Akkaraman lambs. When the animals were analyzed according to birth type, it was observed that this factor was associated with birth weight, as well as weights on days 30, 60, and 90. Optimizing duck production requires understanding growth variability and monitoring serum calcium and magnesium levelsas health indicators. This study aimed to analyze the growth curve, mortality, and serum calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) levels in White Mallard ducks from hatching to the prelaying period in subtropical conditions.
