Phase Separation Behavior Of Whey Protein Isolate Particle Dispersions In The Presence Ofxanthan, Alev Emi̇ne İnce Coşkun
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
In this study, phase separation of colloidal whey protein isolate (WPI) particle dispersions was studied using a rod-like polysaccharide xanthan. Effects of different xanthan concentration, particle volume fraction, and temperature were analyzed by visual observations, turbidity measurements, and particle mobility tracking method. Particle mobility was determined using a diffusing wave spectroscopy (DWS) set up. Xanthan concentration was kept low in order not to increase the viscosity of dispersions, so that the phase separation could be observed easily. Visual observations showed that there was a minimum concentration of xanthan to induce phase separation at a constant particle volume fraction, and xanthan …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
An anthracene based fluorescent probe, integrated with thiophene moiety, exhibited selective and sensitive detection of chromium (III) ions over other metal ions. Its synthesis was achieved by simple mixing of two commercially available compounds, 2-aminoanthracene, and 2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde, in onestep without the needed complex purification process. The probe molecule (ANT-Th) offered exceptional features such as "turn-on" fluorescence response, low detection limit (0.4 μM), and fast response time (< 1 min) via C$=$N bond hydrolysis. Also, a simple test paper system was developed for the rapid detection of chromium (III) ions with the naked eye.

Specimens of Oreochromis niloticus (One control and 3 experimental groups) were fed diets mixed with different doses of mercury (control group = free of mercury; group 1 = 500 mg/kg; group 2 = 750 mg/kg, and group 3 = 1000 mg/kg) for 60 days in order to study its accumulation and histopathological alterations in the liver, gills, skeletal muscles, and skin. The results obtained revealed that mercury accumulation was significantly (P < 0.05) high in the liver and gills compared to the muscles and skin. The order of accumulation in these organs revealed to be liver > gills > muscles > skin. The fish fed various doses of mercury also showed histological alterations in these organs. Epithelial lifting and epithelial hypertrophy were seen in the gills of the …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study was to evaluate milk glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in Damascus goats with subclinical mastitis. According to the somatic cell counts (SCCs), 193 Damascus goats included in the study were divided into healthy (n = 75; SCC 0.05). In summary, a significant increase in GPx and decrease in SOD levels, respectively, were determined in goat milk samples with subclinical mastitis, and these changing trends were correlated with milk SCCs. However, age, parity, and number of offspring were not associated with these changing patterns.

The present study evaluated the effect of housing system on morphometric and carcass traits of 3 chicken genotypes. In total, 180 cockerels and 180 pullets of 6 weeks old were studied. A randomized complete block design in factorial arrangement, with 18 experimental units of 20 birds each, was applied. Treatments consisted of 3 genotypes consisting of purebred Naked Neck (NN) birds and two crossbreeds (Rhode Island Red × Naked Neck = RNN, Black Australorp × Naked Neck = BNN) and 3 housing systems (free-range, semiintensive, and intensive). Regarding males, RNN chickens had the highest weight at slaughter (1491.12 ± 64.10 …
