This review paper highlights the recent developments in supercapacitors by pointing out the significance of appropriate electrode and device designs. We reported ten extremely high-performance supercapacitors with specific capacitance values among the highest available until now to the best of our knowledge. These state-of-the-art designs employing innovative electrode materials have been discussed along with their short descriptions. The supercapacitors collected here possess the most promising potential for facilitating next-generation systems in energy harvesting and storage. This review is just the surface that can help provide a pathway for supercapacitor research, which is still wide open for exploring and developing new …
Fano Enhancement Of Second Harmonic Field Via Dark-Bright Plasmon Coupling, Mehmet Günay
Fano Enhancement Of Second Harmonic Field Via Dark-Bright Plasmon Coupling, Mehmet Günay
Turkish Journal of Physics
Surface plasmon resonances, the coherent oscillation of free electrons, can concentrate incident field into small volumes much smaller than the incident wavelength. The intense fields at these hot spots enhance the light-matter interactions and may lead to the appearance of nonlinearity. Controlling such nonlinearities is significant for various practical applications. The existence of the long-lived particles in these hotspots may lead to creating Fano resonances in both linear and nonlinear fields. Here we demonstrate that by coupling plasmonic dark modes to the first and the generated second harmonic modes separately, one can gain control over both fields. We find that …

Modern Quantum Mechanics, Why We Need It, How To Use It?, Vahid Karimipour
Turkish Journal of Physics
A new field of research centered on quantum science and technology is emerging. This rapidly developing field deals with the study and control of single quantum entities, i.e. atoms, ions, photons, which are no longer isolated but are parts of a larger system. Manipulation of these quantum entities forms the basis of modern quantum technology, from quantum computation to quantum communication and quantum sensing. One, therefore, needs to reconsider the basic concepts of state, evolution, and measurement for these so-called open quantum systems. This is a pedagogical review paper on the rudiments of modern quantum mechanics, which keeps citations to …

The Morphological And Morphometric Characteristics Of Alabadem Pigeons, Evren Erdem, Fatma Tüli̇n Özbaşer, Eser Kemal Gürcan, Mehmet İhsan Soysal
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study aimed to determine the morphological and morphometric characteristics of Alabadem pigeons, which are grown as ornamental pigeons in Edirne province, and to determine mutual traits with other indigenous pigeon breeds in Turkey by comparing with previous studies. Body weight (P < 0.001), head length (P < 0.01), head width (P < 0.05), beak length (P < 0.001), and tarsus diameter (P < 0.05) of age group III were higher than those of other age groups; however, the wingspan of age group II was greater than that of other age groups in Alabadem pigeon. Compared to other indigenous genotypes in Turkey, the Alabadem pigeon is a small-sized genotype. Alabadem pigeons were similar to Edremit butterfly pigeons and Thracian tumbler pigeons in terms of crested and blackeyed pigeons. On the other hand, the irregularly shaped mark (almond) on the head in Alabadem pigeons was similar to the wide-long irregular shaped mark on the neck of Edremit butterfly pigeons. Some basic plumage colors (black, yellow, and red) and intermediate colors (chickpea and scarlet) were identical to Alabadem pigeons and Thrace roller pigeons. Since Alabadem pigeons have many mutual characteristics with Edremit butterfly pigeons and Thracian roller pigeons, genetic studies may be recommended to determine the degree of relationship among these breeds.

Morphological And Molecular Characterization Of Croatian Carob Tree(Ceratonia Siliqua L.) Germplasm, Snjezana Bolaric, Ivna Dragojevic Müller, Ales Vokurka, Dubravka Vitali Cepo, Mirko Ruscic, Sinisa Srecec, Dario Kremer
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
The results of morphological and AFLP variability of 120 plants of carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.), collected from 12 different locations (10 biological replicates for each location) on the coast and islands of the southern Croatian Adriatic, indicate high molecular and morphological variability among these carob populations. Analysis of molecular variance revealed significant differences among populations (26.07%; p < 0.001; a = 0.05). Out of the total variability, 22.49% refers to the variability among, and 77.51% within populations. UPGMA and STRUCTURE analysis based on AFLP genetic data clustered carob populations into three main groups representing three real genetic populations. UPGMA analysis based on morphological traits of leaves, pods, and seeds clustered carob populations into five groups. Mantel test showed significant correlation between morphological and genetic data (r = 0.58, p < 0.001; a = 0.05). According to the high genetic and morphological variability, the germplasm collection in the analysis could represent an important genetic pool for future breeding programmes. The goal of future research should be the conservation of C. siliqua in its natural habitats, and the establishment of gene banks of genetic resources with the purpose of creating new carob cultivars in breeding programmes.
Interactions Between Densely Grafted Molten Polymer Brushes:Scaling Theories Versus Molecular Simulations, Aykut Erbaş
Interactions Between Densely Grafted Molten Polymer Brushes:Scaling Theories Versus Molecular Simulations, Aykut Erbaş
Turkish Journal of Physics
Using molecular dynamics simulations and scaling arguments, we analyzed the interactions between two identical molten polymer brushes intermediately and strongly compressed towards each other at melt conditions. The width of the overlap region, in which monomers of the linear chains composing the two brushes interact, increases as the polymer-grafted surfaces are brought closer. If two-brush coated surfaces are as close as the characteristics size of the grafted chains, the overlap region is directly controlled by intersurface distance. At intermediate compression, the width of the overlap region scales with the end-to-end size of chain sections within the overlap region. This result …

Turkish Journal of Physics
The stoichiometric nickel oxide is an insulator while it becomes a p-type semiconductor with the presence of divalent and trivalent states. Here nonstoichiometric nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO${}_{x}$NPs) were synthesized via a chemical route using two different starter salts; nickel chloride hexahydrate and nickel nitrate hexahydrate. The nanoparticles were investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, to determine the crystal structure, morphology, and particle size. The effect of different nickel salts in the reaction and the formation of NiO${}_{x\ }$nanoparticles were observed for the first time in the literature. Because of the high uniformity and stability, nitrate-based …
Finite-Time Two-Spin Quantum Otto Engines:Shortcuts To Adiabaticity Vs. Irreversibility, Bariş Çakmak
Finite-Time Two-Spin Quantum Otto Engines:Shortcuts To Adiabaticity Vs. Irreversibility, Bariş Çakmak
Turkish Journal of Physics
We propose a quantum Otto cycle in a two spin-1/2 anisotropic XY model in a transverse external magnetic field. We first characterize the parameter regime that the working medium operates as an engine in the adiabatic regime. Then, we consider finite-time behavior of the engine with and without utilizing a shortcut to adiabaticity (STA) technique. STA schemes guarantee that the dynamics of a system follows the adiabatic path, at the expense of introducing an external control. We compare the performance of the nonadiabatic and STA engines for a fixed adiabatic efficiency but different parameters of the working medium. We observe …

Geochemistry And Petrography Of Beach Sands Along The Western Coast Of Ghana:Implications For Provenance And Tectonic Settings, Mahamuda Abu, Emmanuel Daanoba Sunkari
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The paleoweathering, provenance, and tectonic setting of sediments of the western coast of Ghana were unraveled using the geochemistry of 29 beach sands, which are characterized by coarse-, medium-, and fine-grained sizes. The coarse-grained beach sands contain higher SiO2 content (2.9-96 wt.%) than the medium-grained (4.9-94 wt.%) and fine-grained (16.1-90.7 wt.%) sands, implying that the increase in grain size is related to the increase in SiO2 content. Al2O3 and CaO concentrations are higher in the fine- and medium-grained sands than the coarse-grained sands. The beach sands are compositionally immature based on the index of compositional variable values (1.17-141) and Th/Sc …
