Underlying Mechanisms And Prospects Of Heart Regeneration, Gali̇p Servet Aslan, Dudu Gonca Misir, Fati̇h Kocabaş

Turkish Journal of Biology

Findings in the last decade suggest that there is a considerable amount of cardiomyocyte turnover in the human heart throughout life, albeit not sufficient for heart regeneration following myocardial infarctions. Only a few species are known to be remarkably efficient in cardiac regeneration. They restore lost cardiomyocytes via a process of cardiomyocyte dedifferentiation, which is followed by robust proliferation of cardiomyocytes and incorporation into the myocardium. Similarly, neonatal mice have been recently shown to regenerate their heart following myocardial injuries. Studies with a neonatal cardiac regeneration mouse model suggest that the major source of new cardiomyocytes is likely to be …

Novel Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration Implementations Of The Support Vector Machine Classifier On Fpga, Hanaa Hussain, Khaled Benkrid, Hüseyi̇n Şeker

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The support vector machine (SVM) is one of the highly powerful classifiers that have been shown to be capable of dealing with high-dimensional data. However, its complexity increases requirements of computational power. Recent technologies including the postgenome data of high-dimensional nature add further complexity to the construction of SVM classifiers. In order to overcome this problem, hardware implementations of the SVM classifier have been proposed to benefit from parallelism to accelerate the SVM. On the other hand, those implementations offer limited flexibility in terms of changing parameters and require the reconfiguration of the whole device. The latter interrupts the operation …

The ability of the hyperthermophilic archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus P2 to grow on organic and inorganic sulfur sources was investigated. A sulfur-free mineral medium was employed with different sources of carbon. The results showed that inorganic sulfur sources display growth curve patterns significantly different from the curves obtained with organic sulfur sources. Solfataricus has the ability to utilize DBT and its derivatives, but it lacks BT utilization. Solfataricus} utilizes DBT at a rate of 1.23 \mu mol 2-HBP h^{-1} g DCW^{-1} even at 78 °C, at which DBT is known to be unstable. After enabling DBT stabilization using a two-phase culture …
