Synthesis, Antioxidant And Antimicrobial Properties Of Novel Pyridyl-Carbonyl Thiazoles As Dendrodoine Analogs, Zafer Şahi̇n, Sevde Nur Bi̇lteki̇n, Leyla Yurttaş, Şeref Demi̇rayak

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Marine compound dendrodoine was first obtained from tunicate species (Dendrodo grossularia). It has a five-membered ring, namely, it is a heterocycle thiadiazole, which is found rarely in natural sources. Following its biological activities, novel analogs have been investigated recently. Synthesis of the analogs for this study is realized with uncommon thiazole closure, including methylene-carbonyl condensation. Structures are elucidated by NMR (1H, 13C) and HRMS spectrums. As an alkaloid derivative, antioxidant properties were evaluated with DPPH and FRAP assays and antimicrobial effect with microdilution method. Among the series, 3bc-3cf showed higher antioxidant activity than those having 3 or 4-pyridyl substituents. There …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The presented work is devoted to the development of synthesis methods for novel 2-[(3-aminoalkyl-(alkaryl-, aryl-))-1$H$-1,2,4-triazolo]anilines. Abovementioned compounds were obtained via hydrazinolysis (Ing-Manske procedure) and acid hydrolysis of corresponding $N$-acylated {([1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-$c$]quinazolin-2-yl)alkyl-(alkaryl-, aryl-)} amines. The regioselectivity of hydrazinolysis and hydrolysis were established. The features of spectral characteristics were studied and discussed. Characteristic patterns of protons signals splitting in $^{1}$H NMR of the synthesized compounds were established. The effect of the synthesized compounds on the pentylenetetrazol seizures was studied. It was found that according to some indicators, anticonvulsant activity of 2-[(3-aminoalkyl-(alkaryl-, aryl-))-1$H$-1,2,4-triazolo]anilines superior or comparable with effect of the reference drug "Lamotrigine". It …

Artificially fabricated hydroxyapatite (HAP) shows excellent biocompatibility with various kinds of cells and tissues which makes it an ideal candidate for a bone substitute material. In this study, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles have been prepared by using the wet chemical precipitation method using calcium nitrate tetra-hydrate [Ca(NO$_{3})_{2}$.4H$_{2}$O] and di-ammonium hydrogen phosphate [(NH$_{4})_{2}$HPO$_{4}$] as precursors. The composite scaffolds have been prepared by a freeze-drying method with hydroxyapatite, chitosan, and gelatin which form a 3D network of interconnected pores. Glutaraldehyde solution has been used in the scaffolds to crosslink the amino groups ($\vert $NH$_{2})$ of gelatin with the aldehyde groups ($\vert $CHO) of chitosan. …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Choline derivatives were covalently immobilized on the surface of γ -aminated silica. The obtained immobilized choline derivative was then successfully used for a transesterification reaction to produce glycerophosphocholine (GPC). Fourier transform infrared analysis and thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermal gravimetry indicated that the surface of the γ -aminated silica was covered by choline derivatives and the highest immobilization amount reached 1.1 mmol/g under optimal conditions. More importantly, the highest yield of GPC reached 97.9% during transesterification. With regard to GPC in food or medicine for human use, the immobilization technology can avoid catalyst contamination of the product and increase the safety of …

Characterisation Of Chitin In The Cuticle Of A Velvet Worm (Onychophora), Hartmut Greven, Murat Kaya, İdri̇s Sargin, Talat Baran, Reinhardt Møbjerg Kristensen, Martin Vinther Sorensen

Turkish Journal of Zoology

We characterize the trunk cuticle of velvet worms of the Peripatoides novaezealandiae-group (Onychophora) using SEM, TEM, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). TEM and SEM revealed a relatively uniform organization of the delicate cuticle that is covered by numerous bristled and nonbristled papillae with ribbed scales arranged in transverse rows. The cuticle consists of a very thin multilayered epicuticle of varying appearance followed by the largely fibrous procuticle. The irregularly arranged nanofibres of isolated cuticular chitin seen by SEM are considered as bundles of chitin fibres. FT-IR and TGA showed that the chitin is of the α-type. …

Community Detection In Complex Networks Using A New Agglomerative Approach, Majid Arasteh, Somayeh Alizadeh

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Complex networks are used for the representation of complex systems such as social networks. Graph analysis comprises various tools such as community detection algorithms to uncover hidden data. Community detection aims to detect similar subgroups of networks that have tight interconnections with each other while, there is a sparse connection among different subgroups. In this paper, a greedy and agglomerative approach is proposed to detect communities. The proposed method is fast and often detects high-quality communities. The suggested method has several steps. In the first step, each node is assigned to a separated community. In the second step, a vertex …

Effect Of Some Immunomodulators And Zeatin On Susceptibility Of Wheat To Powdery Mildew, Alexander Babosha Jan 2019

Effect Of Some Immunomodulators And Zeatin On Susceptibility Of Wheat To Powdery Mildew, Alexander Babosha

Turkish Journal of Botany

The effects of zeatin, salicylic acid, and plant oligoadenylates on susceptibility of wheat seedlings to powdery mildew and the shape of dose-response curves for immunomodulation were studied. Salicylic acid and zeatin produced complex dose-responses with upregulation or downregulation of plant susceptibility. Under different experimental conditions, the dose-response curve for zeatin varied in shape from a curve with a maximum to a curve with a minimum of susceptibility to powdery mildew. More complicated curves with a resistance region framed with regions of increased susceptibility were also found. Plant oligoadenylates inhibited the development of powdery mildew at optimal concentrations. The increasing concentrations …

This study was designed to evaluate serum and electrocardiographic (ECG) changes in cattle with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). Thirty-two cows with clinical signs of FMD and 13 healthy cows were randomly enrolled. After blood sampling, ECG was performed on 23 of the 32 ill cows. Serum circulatory troponin I (cTnI), CPK, LDH, and CK-MB activities were determined in the patient and control groups. Arrhythmias including ventricular tachycardia (VT), sinus tachycardia (ST), atrial fibrillation (AF), and premature ventricular complex (PVC) were seen in 4, 4, 2, and 1 of the patients, respectively. The patients had higher cTnI levels than the control group …

Specimens of Oreochromis niloticus (One control and 3 experimental groups) were fed diets mixed with different doses of mercury (control group = free of mercury; group 1 = 500 mg/kg; group 2 = 750 mg/kg, and group 3 = 1000 mg/kg) for 60 days in order to study its accumulation and histopathological alterations in the liver, gills, skeletal muscles, and skin. The results obtained revealed that mercury accumulation was significantly (P < 0.05) high in the liver and gills compared to the muscles and skin. The order of accumulation in these organs revealed to be liver > gills > muscles > skin. The fish fed various doses of mercury also showed histological alterations in these organs. Epithelial lifting and epithelial hypertrophy were seen in the gills of the …
