Plant community responses to environmental changes depend upon management strategies, climate, topography, and time. The objective herein was to determine canopy coverage and botanical changes in Turkish highland rangelands with different topographical characteristics between 1993 and 2013. Trends in the plant composition changed depending on the slope aspect (compass direction) and topography. The contribution of the grasses to the canopy decreased, while that of legumes and the other families increased. The results indicated that rangeland degradation occurred under uncontrolled grazing conditions. Suitable range management changes are recommended for the conservation of natural resources in the highland rangelands of Turkey.

On Geometric Applications Of Quaternions, Burcu Bektaş Demi̇rci̇, Nazim Aghayev
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Quaternions have become a popular and powerful tool in various engineering fields, such as robotics, image and signal processing, and computer graphics. However, classical quaternions are mostly used as a representation of rotation of a vector in $3$-dimensions, and connection between its geometric interpretation and algebraic structures is still not well-developed and needs more improvements. In this study, we develop an approach to understand quaternions multiplication defining subspaces of quaternion $\mathbb{H}$, called as $\mbox{Plane}(N)$ and $\mbox{Line}(N)$, and then, we observe the effects of sandwiching maps on the elements of these subspaces. Finally, we give representations of some transformations in geometry …

An Improved Memetic Genetic Algorithm Based On A Complex Network As Asolution To The Traveling Salesman Problem, Hadi Mohammadi, Kamal Mirzaie, Mohammad Reza Mollakhalili Meybodi
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
A genetic algorithm (GA) is not a good option for finding solutions around in neighborhoods. The current study applies a memetic algorithm (MA) with a proposed local search to the mutation operator of a genetic algorithm in order to solve the traveling salesman problem (TSP). The proposed memetic algorithm uses swap, reversion and insertion operations to make changes in the solution. In the basic GA, unlike in the real world, the relationship between generations has not been considered. This gap is resolved using the proposed complex network to allow selection among possible solutions. The degree measure has been used for …

Cluster analysis is widely used in data analysis. Statistical data analysis is generally performed on the linear data. If the data has directional structure, classical statistical methods cannot be applied directly to it. This study aims to improve a new directional clustering algorithm which is based on trigonometric approximation. The trigonometric approximation is used for both descriptive statistics and clustering of directional data. In this paper, the fuzzy clustering algorithms (FCD and FCM4DD) improved for directional data and the proposed method are carried out on some numerical and real data examples, and the simulation results are presented. Consequently, these results …

An Index-Based Joint Multilingual/Cross-Lingual Text Categorization Using Topic Expansion Via Babelnet, Eniafe Festus Ayetiran
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The majority of the state-of-the-art text categorization algorithms are supervised and therefore require prior training. Besides the rigor involved in developing training datasets and the requirement for repetition of training for different texts, working with multilingual texts poses additional unique challenges. One of these challenges is that the developer is required to have many different languages involved. Term expansion such as query expansion has been applied in numerous applications; however, a major drawback of most of these applications is that the actual meaning of terms is not usually taken into consideration. Considering the semantics of terms is necessary because of …
