Ethnobotanical Observation On Tuberous Plants From Tribal Area Of Rajasthan (India), Shweta Swarnkar, S. S. Katewa
Ethnobotanical Observation On Tuberous Plants From Tribal Area Of Rajasthan (India), Shweta Swarnkar, S. S. Katewa
Ethnobotanical Leaflets
The present paper gives an account of 42 tuberous plants of Ethnobotanical interest from Aravalli hills of Rajasthan. Main tribes inhabiting the study area are Bhil, Meena, Garasia, Damor and Kathodi. These tribes use the tuberous plants for various purposes in their daily life. Health, vitality and longevity enjoyed by the tribals have been attributed by them to these wild tuberous plants. On account of environmental changes and lack of insight of conservation of tuberous plants, many of them have become rare, threatened and endangered. If proper attention is not given, extinction of these plant species is certain and this …

Local watershed planning is an increasingly important component of environmental management. This article provides an overview of local watershed management efforts occurring across the US and then focuses on one case study from southern Illinois. First, analysis of 1145 local watershed groups shows that government agencies, farmers, and rural residents are key stakeholders in local groups that primarily deal with regional environmental stressors in the form of soil erosion, nutrients, and agrichemicals. Second, the role of watershed partnerships in mediating the complex interactions among stakeholders and local water resources are investigated through a case study of one watershed group. The …

"Complete Liberty"? Gender, Sexuality, Race, And Social Change On The Lower Columbia River, 1805-1838, Gray H. Whaley
Publications
This article analyzes social change in the emerging colonial world of the lower Columbia River from 1805 to 1838, particularly regarding gender and sexuality. Such a focus illuminates critical, interpersonal aspects of fur trade society in this region as it developed into a complex colonial milieu, reflecting both indigenous and Western interests. Lower Chinookans adapted slavery and trade practices to accommodate the demands of their …
