An Attempt At Blocking Of Position Learning By Training With Reward-Memory Associations, Richard A. Burns, Kendra S. Johnson
An Attempt At Blocking Of Position Learning By Training With Reward-Memory Associations, Richard A. Burns, Kendra S. Johnson
The Psychological Record
Rats were runway trained with sequences of rewards that changed in 3 phases. In Phase 1 (24 days), the sequences were NP', SNP', and P'SNP' (n = 3), or NS', PNS', and S'PNS', where P and P' refer to 4 and 8 plain Noyes pellets, and Sand S' are 4 and 8 sucrose pellets. N was a 30-s confinement in the goal without reward. In Phase 2 (14 days) the animals were trained either SNP' or PNS' depending upon compatibility with the Phase 1 training series. A test for control of performance by reward-memory associations or position associations occurred in …

Specific Effect Of Modeling On Young Children's Word Production, Harrie Boelens, Berend Hofman, Taiss Tamaddoni, Katja Eenink
Specific Effect Of Modeling On Young Children's Word Production, Harrie Boelens, Berend Hofman, Taiss Tamaddoni, Katja Eenink
The Psychological Record
Effects of object-name contiguity on word production were examined in 1 Y2- to 2-yr-old children. Two objects and two spoken names were presented in each of three experiments. Each object was the referent of 1 spoken name. An object was presented either together with its spoken name (modeling trial) or alone (test trial). Modeling trials and test trials were mixed with trials that presented familiar stimuli. Referent-specific productions of the experimental names developed on the test trials. This was found immediately after modeling (Experiment 1), and at least 1 day later (Experiments 2 and 3). Further, it was found not …
Hydrophilanthropy, Wash, And Experiential Learning In Developing Countries, Michael E. Campana
Hydrophilanthropy, Wash, And Experiential Learning In Developing Countries, Michael E. Campana
Journal of Contemporary Water Research and Education
Two different and unrelated programs are described, one undergraduate and one graduate, that: 1) introduced students to water research and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) issues in developing countries; 2) injected developing countries' WASH issues into a university graduate water resources program; and 3) introduced hydrophilanthropy, defined as the altruistic concern for the water, sanitation, and related needs of humankind, as manifested by donations of labor, money, or resources. From 2002 through 2004, a National Science Foundation summer Research Experience for Undergraduates program hosted by University of Notre Dame with University of Nevada-Reno and University of New Mexico took undergraduates …

Inference Based On Transitive Relation In Tree Shrews (Tupaia Belangeri) And Rats (Ratus Norvegicus) On A Spatial Discrimination Task, Makoto Takahashi, Tomokazu Ushitani, Kazuo Fujita
The Psychological Record
Six tree shrews and 8 rats were tested for their ability to infer transitively in a spatial discrimination task. The apparatus was a semicircular radial-arm maze with 8 arms labeled A through H. In Experiment 1, the animals were first trained in sequence on 4 discriminations to enter 1 of the paired adjacent arms, AB, BC, CD, and DE, with right (or left, for half the animals) symbols signifying positive options; then they were tested with the previously unused pair of arms, FH. All tree shrews and 4 rats transitively chose H (or F for half the animals). In Experiment …

Converting Assessment Of Traditional Classroom Assignments To The E-Learning Environment, K. Virginia Hemby, Kelly Wilkinson, Tena B. Crews
Converting Assessment Of Traditional Classroom Assignments To The E-Learning Environment, K. Virginia Hemby, Kelly Wilkinson, Tena B. Crews
Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development
While assessment in an e-classroom continues to develop, with a myriad of advantages and disadvantages, it must be explored to provide assistance to e-instructors so that students receive optimal feedback. Assessment is no longer the periodic formal process of exams and graded activities, which may or may not be discussed with the class; it is now in the context of a one-on-one relationship with the e-instructor and each student in the online course (Meyen, Aust, & Issacson, 2002).
Identifying The Roles And Challenges Of Female Agricultural Teachers Employed In Illinois: A Descriptive Study, Dexter B. Wakefield, Mandy L. Brandenburg, Seburn Pense, B. Allen Talbert
Identifying The Roles And Challenges Of Female Agricultural Teachers Employed In Illinois: A Descriptive Study, Dexter B. Wakefield, Mandy L. Brandenburg, Seburn Pense, B. Allen Talbert
Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development
In 1980, one of the first female high school agriculture teachers opened the door to her classroom at Arthur High School, Arthur, Illinois. Since that time, the number of female high school agriculture teachers has grown significantly. A descriptive study was conducted to identify and describe the roles and challenges of female high school agricultural teachers employed in Illinois. The results of the study can be used as a preparation tool for those females who decide to pursue agricultural education as a career, and can be used to encourage more female students to enter this challenging career. This study also …
The Effects Of Reward Omission And Change On Proactive Interference In Spatial Alternation, William S. Terry
The Effects Of Reward Omission And Change On Proactive Interference In Spatial Alternation, William S. Terry
The Psychological Record
Whether reward omission on the sample runs of a delayed alternation task would reduce proactive interference was tested in two experiments. On the first run of a trial, the animal entered one arm of a maze to obtain a food reward; on the second run the reward was available in the opposite arm. Alternation declined across a block of massed trials, but there was less of a decrease when the reward was omitted in the final trial or when another maze was substituted. In a task that required retention of three mazes at a time, alternation again declined across massed …
Mitochondrial Control Region Variation Among The Subspecies Of Sarus Crane (Grus Antigone), Ranajit Das
Mitochondrial Control Region Variation Among The Subspecies Of Sarus Crane (Grus Antigone), Ranajit Das
Theses
Sarus cranes (Grus antigone) are the tallest members of the crane family, Gruidae. They are found in four geographically distinct regions: northwest India (Indian Sarus- Grus antigone antigone), southeast Asia (Burmese Sarus- Grus antigone sharpei) and northern Australia (Australian Sarus- Grus antigone gillae). Although the three subspecies are morphologically distinct, their genetic distinctness is unclear. In this study, I focused on control region sequences of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) to assess the genetic and phylogeographic distinctness of Sarus subspecies. I used samples from four fragmented populations, seven from India, 16 from southeast Asia, five from Myanmar and eight from Australia. Phylogenetic …

Litomosoides (Nemata: Filarioidea) Of Bats From Bolivia With Records For Three Known Species And The Description Of A New Species, Juliana Notarnicola, F Agustín Jiménez-Ruíz, Scott L Gardner
Publications
Herein, we describe Litomosoides salazari n. sp. collected from the body cavity of the yellow bat, Lasiurus ega , from Bolivia. This new species of filarioid nematode is most closely related to the carinii group and is characterized by its relatively small size with the vulva located slightly posterior to the esophago-intestinal junction; an arrow-shaped buccal capsule; and a short, rounded tail. New host and locality records for both Litomosoides hamletti and L. chandleri in phyllostomid bats, and L. brasiliensis occurring in both phyllostomid and vespertilionid bats, are provided. The morphological variability of the specimens is documented by providing comparative …
