A Study Of Some Factors Influencing The Nitrate Content Of Oat Seedlings, Eugene I. Whitehead
A Study Of Some Factors Influencing The Nitrate Content Of Oat Seedlings, Eugene I. Whitehead
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Analysis of samples of oat hay frequently reveals concentrations of nitrates sufficient to be toxic and cause occasional livestock losses. Pigweeds and sorghum having high concentrations of nitrate nitrogen have also been reported as being toxic to cattle. In view of this fact this study was begun to determine what factors might play a role in nitrate metabolism and the extent of their influence.

SDSU Extension Leaflets
Advice given to South Dakota wheat farmers to not increase production as it was believed that the war in Europe would not affect wheat production there and production in the United States was to continue to be large. These factors would keep wheat prices low. It does go on to discuss the increase in the United States’ defense budget and its impact on unemployment and need for farm products such a wool.

Agricultural Experiment Station Circulars (1920-1915)
Preliminary Statement
In the spring of 1927, Mr. C. C. Webber approached the State Board of Regents of Education with the following problem:
"I own a lot of land, and pay taxes on it, in the state of South Dakota. I want to know if I shall continue to keep this land, and pay taxes on it. The State Agricultural College, I think, is the institution to show me. Now I propose to the State Board of Regents of Education that they:
1. Select any piece of land that I own in South Dakota for the purpose of conducting a …

Feeding And Management For Egg Production, W. E. Poley
Feeding And Management For Egg Production, W. E. Poley
SDSU Extension Circulars
The purpose of a ration for egg production is two-fold. First, it must furnish the heat required to maintain the body temperature of the chicken at about 106.7 degrees. In addition, the birds need feed for energy and other materials necessary for the maintenance of the body and health. After these body requirements are met, and if proper nutrients are available, the remainder of the feed can be used for the production of eggs. Birds in good production require about two-thirds of all the feed they eat to maintain their bodies. Thus, it can be seen that about one-third more …

Development Of The Notail Sheep, J. W. Wilson
Development Of The Notail Sheep, J. W. Wilson
Agricultural Experiment Station Circulars (1920-1915)
Summary
This is a progress report of an effort to develop, if possible, a breed of sheep without tails and with other desirable characteristics.
The possibilities for developing such a breed originated in 1913 when Dr. N. E. Hansen, horticulturist at the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station, went to Siberia in search of seeds and plants that might be of value to the conditions in this state. While there his attention was attracted to the condition of the fat-rumped sheep grazing on the comparatively scanty vegetation of that country. He had an idea that if this breed of sheep was …
