Digestion Studies With Sheep And Wild Antelope On A Sagebrush Ration, Paul Harold Kohler
Digestion Studies With Sheep And Wild Antelope On A Sagebrush Ration, Paul Harold Kohler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Introduction: Those who are responsible for the management of antelope, range livestock, and the range seek to maintain such a balance that al may thrive and reproduce. This is inevitably a difficult objective since the balance in numbers of antelope and livestock may be changed annually, but range flora changes only in long-time cycles. Therefore, the balance between the wild and domestic species and the range must be adjusted frequently by range and livestock management. The adjustment of the number of domestic animals to fit the carrying capacity of the range may be accomplished by changing management and marketing practices …
A Survey Of The Microflora Obtained By Flushing The Normal Bovine Uterus, Johannah Jane Wulf
A Survey Of The Microflora Obtained By Flushing The Normal Bovine Uterus, Johannah Jane Wulf
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since artificial insemination has become a reality and the potentialities of ova transfer are being investigated by several research workers, it seems reasonable to assume that some attention should be directed toward gathering information regarding the bacterial flora of the normal bovine uterus. Both artificial insemination and ova transfer require the insertion of foreign bodies or instruments into the uterus. When such instruments enter this organ, there is always the possibility of introducing various kinds of bacteria. Very little information is available regarding the pathogenicity of these bacteria in the bovine uterus. The possibility of abortion due to such pathogenic …
A Study Of The Common Cocklebur, Conald P. Abler
A Study Of The Common Cocklebur, Conald P. Abler
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Numerous cases of livestock poisoning due to the common cocklebur have been recorded in the literature during the past three decades. From the stock raiser’s standpoint the question of the poisonous properties of this plant has become very important for it grows worldwide and is reported to cause heavy losses annually. Published statements concerning the toxicity of this prolific weed and the nature of the toxic principle , if one exists, are quite contradictory and controversial. The references which state that there is a toxic principal have designated it as a glucose, an alkaloid, a saponin, and a hydrocarbon. There …
A Comparison Of Feebar Barley, Norghum Sorghum, And Yellow Corn For Growing And Fattening Pigs, Hugh Raymond Barnett
A Comparison Of Feebar Barley, Norghum Sorghum, And Yellow Corn For Growing And Fattening Pigs, Hugh Raymond Barnett
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Agronomy Department of South Dakota State College has developed and released several new varieties of crops in the last few years. Two of these, Feebar barley released in 1947 and Norghum sorghum released in 1949, are being grown rather extensively by grain and livestock produces in South Dakota. As a result , numerous inquiries have been received by the Animal Husbandry Department concerning the relative feed volume of these two crops. Because of this desired information , it seemed necessary to compare Feebar barley and Norghum sorghum with a standard yellow corn ration for growing and fattening pigs. Norghum, …
Influence Of Winter Housing Conditions On Growth Rates And Feed Consumption Of Dairy Heifers, Emery H. Bartle
Influence Of Winter Housing Conditions On Growth Rates And Feed Consumption Of Dairy Heifers, Emery H. Bartle
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is important in dairy cattle management to maintain steady and continuous growth of heifers and thereby secure properly developed cows which will give the production that is expected of them when they are brought into the milking herd. In general, heifer calves during the first twelve months of their growing period are carefully managed as to feed, housing and care to promote normal growth. However, they are often neglected during their yearling stage to the point where growth is retarded because of environment factors. On many dairy farms in the North Central States the management of yearling dairy heifers …

Farmer's 1949 Income Tax, Agricultural Extension Service, South Dakota State College
SDSU Extension Circulars
Every person whose gross income during the year is $600 or more MUST file a return even though no tax is due. Gross income is total income (subject to tax) before any expenses are deducted. If at least two-thirds of your gross income is from farming and your business year starts January 1, you have two choices. Either, (a) file your return and pay the tax on or before January 31, 1950; or (b) file an estimate of your tax and pay this amount by January 15, 1950, then file your return and pay any balance due by March 15, …
Graphic Views Of Changes In South Dakota Agriculture, G. Lundy
Graphic Views Of Changes In South Dakota Agriculture, G. Lundy
Agricultural Experiment Station Circulars (1920-1915)
Because many significant changes have taken place in South Dakota agriculture in recent decades, it seems desirable to visualize what has happened. Such a backward look may be necessary in order to arrive at sound plans for today and tomorrow. Information presented in a properly constructed graph or chart can be seen at a glance and understood quite readily. Usually it takes more time to grasp the same ideas or information when presented either in written form or in a statistical table. It is to be hoped that the following graphic presentation will contribute toward a better understanding of some …

Scandinavian Ideas For A South Dakota Christmas, Leslie Smith
Scandinavian Ideas For A South Dakota Christmas, Leslie Smith
SDSU Extension Circulars
As members of Home Extension Clubs, it is entirely fitting that we extend our policy of "Harmony Around the World" to include an appreciation and use of the designs and crafts of other people of other lands. It is hoped that this booklet which presents Scandinavian ideas may be the first of a series of Christmas gift circulars based on that appreciation. It is planned that Christmas gift circulars of coming years will tell of Christmas customs of German, Eastern Europe, English, Irish, French and other peoples who make up our South Dakota ancestry.
The European Corn Borer, Gerald B. Spawn
The European Corn Borer, Gerald B. Spawn
Agricultural Experiment Station Entomology Pamphlets (1940-1952)
The European corn borer was first recorded from South Dakota i n the summer of 1946. At that time Hr. H. C. Severin and the author found borers in corn in Union and Lincoln and Minnehaha counties. Less than half of one percent of the stalks in the fields were infested at that time. During the summer of 1948 the infestation had spread over most of the corn producing area of our state. By the fall of that year 36 counties were known to be infested . Several fields in the southeastern part of the state had 100 per cent …

South Dakota's Noxious Weeds, Agricultural Extension Service, South Dakota State College
South Dakota's Noxious Weeds, Agricultural Extension Service, South Dakota State College
SDSU Extension Circulars
The weeds in this booklet have been designated as "Noxious Weeds" by the South Dakota State Weed Board. They have been printed in natural color so they may be identified easily. These are South Dakota's most troublesome weeds. If left alone they soon will take over the land, spread to other fields and cause heavy financial loss. South Dakota's farms should be protected from these weeds - infestations must be eliminated. Every landowner must recognize these noxious weeds and prevent them from taking over our land.
