4-H Handicraft Guide : Color And Design, Delphia Dirks
SDSU Extension Circulars
We all have favorite colors but we should remember that no color is ugly. If used in the right place and in the right amount, every color is beautiful. Colors must suit the purpose for which they have been chosen. They must be combined so as to enhance one another. Look at examples of good art and study their color schemes. Look at different color schemes in magazines and see if they are analogous, triad, etc. Note how the same hues are brightened and darkened - sometimes in the same pictures or designs.
Transportation Of Poultry Feed Ingredients From The North Central States, W. H. Thompson
Transportation Of Poultry Feed Ingredients From The North Central States, W. H. Thompson
Research Bulletins of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (1887-2011)
This study should be useful to poultry producers and processors in the North Central States, for it points out the methods used and charges incurred in the movement of the commodities from these states to competing regions. As more efficient methods of transportation are utilized, costs usually decline; and lowered costs of feed in the competing poultry producing areas mean more intensive price competition on dressed poultry between these areas and the North Central States which originate the feed ingredients.

Keen Teens Choose Good Food, Cleora Ewalt
SDSU Extension Circulars
Scientists all over the country have been studying your nutritional status and eating habits. In their studies, teen-agers have consistently been found to be the poorest-fed members of the family. And in all studies, girls' eating habits are shown to be worse than boys'. Your teen years are a short part of your life span, but some of your most critical. There are estimated to be from 12 to 16 million of you in the United States. Many of you girls look forward to marriage and having families of your own. The nutritional well-being of your future husband and your …

Dehorning Yearling Beef Cattle, R. M. Luther
Dehorning Yearling Beef Cattle, R. M. Luther
Research Bulletins of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (1887-2011)
The cattle feeder is interested in information on dehorning yearling cattle since many cattle reach the yearling age without being dehorned. Information on losses from dehorning, shrinkage following dehorning, rate of recovery of this shrink, and comparative rate of gain during the feeding period will help the feeder to determine how profitable it will be to dehorn yearling cattle. To answer some of these questions, five experiments were conducted using yearling steers and heifers.

An Economic Analysis Of The Effects Of Alternative Shearing Methods On Wool Quality In Eastern South Dakota, Gerald E. Marousek
An Economic Analysis Of The Effects Of Alternative Shearing Methods On Wool Quality In Eastern South Dakota, Gerald E. Marousek
Agricultural Experiment Station Agricultural Economics Pamphlets (1941-1991)
The lack of information relating the quality of the wool clip at the farm to its value to the manufacturer has been recognized for several years. The following objectives were set out as a means of guiding the study of wool quality improvement in eastern South Dakota: To determine the theoretical effects of improved methods of shearing and handling wool on quantities produced, prices received, apportionment of benefits between producers and consumers, farm resource allocation, producers' bargaining power, and marketing costs; to develop and test practical methods of farm preparation of fleeces which could be expected to improve the quality …

Factors Contributing To And Affecting The Cellulose Digestibility Of Pelleted Roughage, John Russell Jahn
Factors Contributing To And Affecting The Cellulose Digestibility Of Pelleted Roughage, John Russell Jahn
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The transition to the pelleting of natural feeding materials has produced many problems. Various opinions have been expressed by the investigators regarding possible solutions to these problems. The proper mechanical formation of the pellet or wafer has been studied by several investigators. Several necessary factors have been determined. The temperature ranges that will produce the best possible product, from a feeding standpoint, have been tested against various pressures. The fineness of grinding or chopping have also been considered, as they relate to the digestibility and economy of the finished product. Moisture and adhesive agents have been considered in determining what …
Beef Performance Testing On Farm And Ranch, Henry P. Holzman
Beef Performance Testing On Farm And Ranch, Henry P. Holzman
SDSU Extension Circulars
This circular has been prepared to assist in answering the increasing number of questions being asked by producers of commercial and purebred cattle about the methods, principles and values of the Performance Test for beef cattle. Performance testing is nothing new. Improvement in livestock ever since the beginning of the various breeds, has been due to some form of performance test. Such tests have been based on either observation or some form of records. Knowledge of underlying principles and the relative value of different methods has, until recent years, been lacking in beef cattle testing. Research projects conducted during the …

Protein And Energy Levels For Wintering Beef Calves And Effects On Subsequent Production, Marcus Hoelscher
Protein And Energy Levels For Wintering Beef Calves And Effects On Subsequent Production, Marcus Hoelscher
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The need for minimum amounts of protein and energy by animals for maintenance, growth and production has been recognized for many years. It is also well known that the requirements will vary depending on species, age, weight and rate of growth or production. In order to provide livestock feeders with useful guides in feeding, several feeding standards containing recommended nutrient requirements have been prepared. The most commonly used standards for beef cattle are the “Morrison Feeding Standards” (1956) and the National Research Council’s “Nutrient Requirements of Beef Cattle” prepared by the Subcommittee on Beef Cattle Nutrition (1959). Feeding standards give …
Periodicals Printed In South Dakota From Territorial Beginning Through 1930, With A Check List Of Periodicals, Maxine Schrader Wiseman
Periodicals Printed In South Dakota From Territorial Beginning Through 1930, With A Check List Of Periodicals, Maxine Schrader Wiseman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problems of this thesis are: first, to trace the chronological development of periodicals printed in South Dakota from the date of the first known periodical printed in Dakota Territory through December 31, 1930; second, to study the types of periodicals produced; and third, to compile a check list as complete as possible of South Dakota periodicals during the period chosen for study. The date December 31, 1930 was chosen as a convenient cut-off date since few periodicals began after that date. The chronological development of those magazines published before 1930 was continued until suspension or to the present date. …
The Digestibility Of Holocellulose Prepared From Various Forages With Special Emphasis On The Comparative Digestibility Of The Cellulose Portion And The Digestibility Of The Entire Holocellulose Fraction, Marion M. Thurston
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Estimating the feeding value of forage grasses is one problem that has confronted nearly every livestock nutritionist. The conventional system of proximate analysis as it was developed in weends. Germany over 100 years ago has been repeatedly criticized because the products are variable for cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The crude fiber classification commonly suggests the fibrous, poorly digested and relatively unavailable portion of a feed. The ability of the ruminant animal to digest cellulose in the crude fiver fraction was not considered in the weende system by classifying it in the unavailable portion of forages/ The nitrogen free extract, commonly …

The Effects Of Different Methods Of Freezing On The Viability Of Rabbit Ova, Mansur Ferdows
The Effects Of Different Methods Of Freezing On The Viability Of Rabbit Ova, Mansur Ferdows
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
During the period between 1940 and 1960 artificial insemination of dairy cows grew from the experimental stage to an extensive business enterprise in the United States. According to the Dairy herd Improvement Letter (Vol. 36, No. 3, A.R.S., U.S.D.A.) only 7,359 cows and heifers were artificially inseminated in 1939, but by 1959 this number had increased to 6,932,249. Along with the extended use of superior sires, a logical conclusion was that some attention should be directed toward increasing the use of good female germ plasm. If this could be accomplished, a more rapid improvement in the quality of dairy cattle …
