This activity provided undergraduate nursing students with the opportunity to enhance critical thinking for Jewish Mothers in the post-partum setting following the birth of their newborn. This was a reflective approach which involved understanding meanings, insights, and judgment, as it related to the generalized empirical method. Students were provided with information on the generalized empirical method prior to participating in this class activity. Accelerated second-degree Bachelor of Science in nursing (ASDBSN) programs have increased rapidly from 31 in 1990 to 230 in 2013 with 33 more programs in the planning stages according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2013). Peer-teaching is an educational strategy that has recently been incorporated into a local School of Nursing curriculum. The Adult Health II nursing students taught basic nursing skills to Nursing Assessment students, and a survey was anonymously completed by student participants. The survey results were then used to analyze the successes and shortcomings of peer-teaching through comparison to findings from similar research projects.

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing reports the passing percentage of first-attempt, US educated, baccalaureate degree candidates taking NCLEX-RN in 2014 at 84.93%, continuing the downward trend from recent years with reports of 85.18% in 2013 and 91.66% in 2012 (www.ncsbn.org/exam-statistics-and-publications.htm).
