Improving Sleep Quality: Adolescent Health, Beatrice Salvador, Kennedy Ventura
Improving Sleep Quality: Adolescent Health, Beatrice Salvador, Kennedy Ventura
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Adolescent development depends heavily on sleep, which affects many aspects of a child’s life, such as academic achievement, emotional control, physical health, and cognitive function. Despite its significance, a lot of adolescents do not get enough sleep because of irregular sleep patterns, excessive screen time, and other factors that compromise their sleep hygiene. The transition from childhood to adolescence is a period often marked by changes in sleep patterns, making this age group particularly vulnerable to sleep-related issues. Understanding and enhancing adolescents’ sleep health is essential since sleep has a big influence on their everyday life. In order to better …

Background: Social media plays a crucial role in shaping body image perceptions and health behaviors, particularly during emerging adulthood—a critical period when individuals establish lifelong health habits. Unhealthy weight management behaviors (UWMB) are gaining attention as they stem from a complex interplay of structural (e.g., social norms) and personal (e.g., body image) factors. Emerging adults are particularly vulnerable to social pressures and media influences, leading to a high prevalence of UWMB in this population. Given social media’s role in shaping body image norms and health behaviors, understanding its influence on UWMB is crucial. As a preliminary step toward investigating this …

Thriving As A Recent Graduate With Learning Disability: A Mixed Methods Study, Eunice Korkor Assem-Erhaze, Nicole Harder, Wanda Chernomas
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The nursing shortage is critical globally (Buchan & Catton, 2023). Several factors contribute to this, including disability. Promoting retention measures for nursing graduates, particularly those with learning disabilities (LD), helps address the nurse shortage in line with equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. Federal laws mandate that academic institutions offer reasonable accommodation to students with LD to enhance their educational outcomes. However, the automatic accommodations offered to these students ‘fade away’ after graduation, although LD is a lifelong difference. Workplace stress and lack of transition support increase graduate nurse turnover, which LD exacerbates. Recent graduates with learning disabilities (RGwLD) are required …
