Excitation Ladder Of Cavity Polaritons, Travis M. Autry, Gaël Nardin, Christopher L. Smallwood, Kevin Silverman, Daniele Bajoni, Aristide Lemaître, Sophie Bouchoule, Jacqueline Bloch, Steven Cundiff

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Multidimensional coherent spectroscopy directly unravels multiply excited states that overlap in a linear spectrum. We report multidimensional coherent optical photocurrent spectroscopy in a semiconductor polariton diode and explore the excitation ladder of cavity polaritons. We measure doubly and triply avoided crossings for pairs and triplets of exciton polaritons, demonstrating the strong coupling between light and dressed doublet and triplet semiconductor excitations. These results demonstrate that multiply excited excitonic states strongly coupled to a microcavity can be described as two coupled quantum-anharmonic ladders.

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Altmetrics are data that can explain both the volume and nature of attention that research receives online. Certain kinds of altmetrics are also indicators for potential downstream impact. Altmetrics are complementary to citation-based metrics, and distinct from social media metrics and usage statistics. In this paper presented the 2019 top three research articles attention in the online. The highest Altmetric attention score received for the article of Few-shot adversarial learning of realistic neural Talking Head Models with attention score of 13,415 with huge number of twitter mentioned and it was published arXiv, May 2019. Forensic Autosomal Short Tandem Repeats And Their Potential Association With Phenotype, Nicole Wyner, Mark Barash, Dennis Mcnevin Aug 2020

Forensic Autosomal Short Tandem Repeats And Their Potential Association With Phenotype, Nicole Wyner, Mark Barash, Dennis Mcnevin

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Forensic DNA profiling utilizes autosomal short tandem repeat (STR) markers to establish identity of missing persons, confirm familial relations, and link persons of interest to crime scenes. It is a widely accepted notion that genetic markers used in forensic applications are not predictive of phenotype. At present, there has been no demonstration of forensic STR variants directly causing or predicting disease. Such a demonstration would have many legal and ethical implications. For example, is there a duty to inform a DNA donor if a medical condition is discovered during routine analysis of their sample? In this review, we evaluate the …

The Current State And Building Of Institutional Repository In The Library Of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ikwo, Nigeria, Emmanuel Chidiadi Onwubiko

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Institutional repository (IR) is the channel through which an academic institution showcases her research power to the world. To this, academic libraries are under obligation to provide access to both print and electronic resources especially those generated within the university in order to increase access to information resources and visibility of their institutions as a measure of prestige and recognition internationally. It is in view of the above that this study on ‘the current state and building of institutional repository in the library of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ikwo, Nigeria’ is carried out. The study investigated the state of the …

Surveying Silicon Valley On Cycling, Travel Behavior, And Travel Attitudes, Kevin Fang

Mineta Transportation Institute

This report presents the results from a March 2020 survey of Santa Clara County residents about their current travel behavior, overall thoughts on travel, and opinions about various forms of transportation in particular. While the instrument inquired about all modes of transportation, the survey was particularly focused on attitudes and behavior related to cycling. A total of 1,009 responses were included in the analysis. Overall, the study confirms that private motor vehicle travel dominates, with approximately 90 percent of respondents reporting that they drive in an average week and own cars. A Visible Light Communications Framework For Intelligent Transportation Systems, Hovannes Kulhandjian Aug 2020

A Visible Light Communications Framework For Intelligent Transportation Systems, Hovannes Kulhandjian

Mineta Transportation Institute

In this work, we developed a visible light communication (VLC) framework that can be used for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). ITS has been motivated by the need for reducing traffic congestion and offering better user experience in navigation and location-specific services. Recently, VLC has drawn a great deal of attention in the research community, including the development of new applications for ITS. It would be of great use to enable the traffic lights to be able to talk to the vehicles in their proximity and convey important information about the traffic condition. In this project, we developed a framework that …

Evolution Of Plume Core Structures And Turbulence During A Wildland Fire Experiment, Maritza Arreola Amaya, Craig B. Clements

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Micrometeorological observations were made during a prescribed fire experiment conducted in a region of complex terrain with grass fuels and weak ambient winds of 3 m s-1. The experiment allowed for the analysis of plume and turbulence structures including individual plume core evolution during fire front passage. Observations were made using a suite of in situ and remote sensing instruments strategically placed at the base of a gully with a 24° slope angle. The fire did not spread upwards along the gully because the ambient wind was not in alignment with the slope, demonstrating that unexpected fire spread can occur …

Master's Projects

This study is a two-part process evaluation of the RSP’s tracking of TPO (2017) just cause eviction filings. This study also intends to understand the RSP’s collected data when it is properly processed. This study’s research questions are as follows: Was the RSP’s process for tracking just cause evictions working to achieve the program’s goal in determining eviction outcomes? At what levels did landlords pursue just cause evictions for failure to pay rent? Is there a significant disparity between market-rate property managers’ eviction filings and rent-controlled apartment landlords’ eviction filings?

Eco-Driving Systems For Connected Automated Vehicles: Multi-Objective Trajectory Optimization, Ke Huang, Xianfeng Yang

Mineta Transportation Institute

This study aims to leverage advances in connected automated vehicle (CAV) technology to design an eco-driving and platooning system that can improve the fuel and operational efficiency of vehicles during freeway driving. Following a two-stage control logic, the proposed algorithm optimizes CAVs’ trajectories with three objectives: travel time minimization, fuel consumption minimization, and traffic safety improvement. The first stage, designed for CAV trajectory planning, is carried out with two optimization models. The second stage, for real-time control purposes, is developed to ensure the operational safety of CAVs. Based on extensive numerical simulations, the results have confirmed the effectiveness of the …

Performance Testing Of Hot Mix Asphalt Containing Biochar, Shadi Saadeh, Yazan Al-Zubi, Basel Zaatarah Aug 2020

Performance Testing Of Hot Mix Asphalt Containing Biochar, Shadi Saadeh, Yazan Al-Zubi, Basel Zaatarah

Mineta Transportation Institute

In recent years, researchers have been able to identify asphalt binder additives, such as polymers and bio-binder, that can enhance the rheological and mechanical properties of asphalt binders. Earlier studies show that utilizing bio-binder as a partial replacement for asphalt binder has shown promising results in both mechanical and sustainability aspects. Biochar additions improved binder viscosity and low-temperature characteristics. Biochar, which is a byproduct of producing bio-binder, has shown enhanced rheological and mechanical properties when used as an additive to the asphalt binder. In this study, the mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures containing Biochar were investigated. In addition, its color …

Therefore, two methods: Pao’s Least Squared (LS) and Sen’s methods were used to determine the validity of GBV research output vis-a-vis Lotka’s law of scientific productivity over a ten-year window 2009-2018. Data on GBV scientific publications in South Africa was harvested from the EBSCO Discovery Service Database. The study revealed an acute dearth of research on GBV, given the fact that 300 publications were produced by 617 researchers which translated …
