Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Archivists are managing a large amount of information every day. Hence, the basic foundation of archival philosophy is understanding the nature of archives and manuscripts and that an archivist or a librarian should manage the collections to properly preserve corporate memory. This study used the descriptive methods of research using survey questionnaire to: 1) determine the extent of knowledge and practices of academic librarians on the ten domains based on RA 9470 namely: a) scope, interpretation, and objectives; b) functions of the University Archives; c) structure and staffing pattern; d) management of archival records; e) transparency of transactions and access …

Role Of Public Libraries In Information Literacy For Women Empowerment: With Special Reference To Kanyashree Girls Of Nabagram In Murshidabad District Of West Bengal, Subrata Biswas, Prasenjit Deb

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

As per Michelle Obama, "No country can ever truly flourish if it stifles the potential of its women and deprives itself of the contributions of half of its citizens". It is quite lucid that empowerment of women means making women economically and socially independent, self-reliant, confident and positive in attitude. Kanyashree Prakalpa is considered as one of the most significant tools in this regard with a participatory approach for the empowerment of women. This helps the women to develop themselves individually and to participate in the developmental activities of the family and society. The main objective of the conduct of …

Knowledge, Practices, And Challenges Of Library Practitioners On Abstracting, David A. Cabonero, Wina B. Dominguez, Judy Ann P. Jandoc, Jeazel S. Tomas

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Access is the primary concern of a library thus information retrieval tool like an abstract is as important as the Online Public Access Catalog. Abstracting then plays an important role in improving access to information that is needed by library users. Librarians then perform this task primarily to guide the users in deciding whether an information resource will be consulted or not. The study utilized the descriptive method of research using a survey questionnaire to determine the level of knowledge and practices on the parts and types of abstracts and the challenges on abstracts a document surrogate encountered by library …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The prevalence of diabetes apparently increases all over the world. Thus, significant research works have been carried out in all aspects of the disease to control and mitigate its effects. Many researchers looked to the disease as a biomedical control engineering problem where the main task is identifying the model that can be used to mimic the healthy person's metabolism and therefore relieving the lives of millions of diabetics. This work aims to explore the dynamics of the produced scientific research in the area of diabetes modeling and control from a bibliometric method. In this work, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis …

Negative Consequences Of Innovation-Igniting Urban Developments: Empirical Evidence From Three Us Cities, Ahoura Zandiatashbar, Carla Maria Kayanan Sep 2020

Negative Consequences Of Innovation-Igniting Urban Developments: Empirical Evidence From Three Us Cities, Ahoura Zandiatashbar, Carla Maria Kayanan

Faculty Publications, Urban and Regional Planning

Emergent economic development policies reflect the challenges urban growth coalitions face in attracting the footloose tech-entrepreneurs of the global economy. This convergence between the focus on place and the harnessing of global capital has led to the proliferation of innovation-igniting urban developments (IIUD)—place-based economic development strategies to boost the local knowledge economy. Economic developers are using IIUD strategies to convert areas of the city into entrepreneurial “launch pads” for innovation. However, because these developments remain young, considerations to implement IIUDs lack an evidence-base to show the potential for negative consequences on the communities where they are embedded. This research addresses …

Message Appeals On An Instagram Account Promoting Seat Belt Use That Attract Adolescents And Young Adults: Elaboration-Likelihood Perspective Study, Ni Zhang, Stacy A. Drake, Kele Ding

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Background:
Adolescents and young adults demonstrate the highest rate of unrestrained motor vehicle fatalities, making the promotion of seat belt restraint a priority for public health practitioners. Because social media use among adolescents and young adults has proliferated in recent years, it is critical to explore how to use this tool to promote seat belt use among this population. Social media posts can contain various types of information within each post and this information can be communicated using different modalities.
Objective:
In this study, based on the elaboration likelihood model, we aimed to examine how adolescents and young adults reacted …

Extreme Pyroconvective Updrafts During A Megafire, B. Rodriguez, N. P. Lareau, D. E. Kingsmill, C. B. Clements

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Airborne cloud radar reveals extreme wildfire updrafts (~60 m s−1) and downdrafts (~30 m s−1) rivaling those in supercell thunderstorms. These extreme vertical velocities occur through a 3-km-deep layer and below the base of a developing pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) cloud, which extends to the tropopause at 12 km. In situ aircraft sampling shows updrafts are linked to large temperature and moisture excesses but remain subsaturated at flight level (i.e., below cloud base). Parcel estimates using the in situ data help explain how these “hot-moist” updrafts trigger the overlying pyroCb. The extreme vertical motions observed also pose a previously undocumented aviation hazard.

Low Mach Number Fluctuating Hydrodynamics Model For Ionic Liquids, Katherine Klymko, Andrew Nonaka, John B. Bell, Sean P. Carney, Alejandro L. Garcia Sep 2020

Low Mach Number Fluctuating Hydrodynamics Model For Ionic Liquids, Katherine Klymko, Andrew Nonaka, John B. Bell, Sean P. Carney, Alejandro L. Garcia

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

We present a new mesoscale model for ionic liquids based on a low Mach number fluctuating hydrodynamics formulation for multicomponent charged species. The low Mach number approach eliminates sound waves from the fully compressible equations leading to a computationally efficient incompressible formulation. The model uses a Gibbs free-energy functional that includes enthalpy of mixing, interfacial energy, and electrostatic contributions. These lead to a new fourth-order term in the mass equations and a reversible stress in the momentum equations. We calibrate our model using parameters for [DMPI+][F6P-], an extensively studied room temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), and numerically demonstrate the formation of …
