From Caution To College: The Effects On Veterans With Self- Reported Trauma Symptoms Sharing Their Experiences With The Campus Community, Jemerson Diaz
McNair Research Journal SJSU
Over 900,000 veterans are using benefits for higher education today; the vast majority of them served in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Over 25% of GWOT service members that have been treated by the Veterans Affairs (VA) are reported to have symptoms of posttraumatic stress or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTS/PTSD). PTS/PTSD negatively impacts student veterans’ abilities to navigate stressful environments such as college and university settings. The Veterans Embracing Transition (VET) Connect Program at San José State University (SJSU) is designed to connect veterans with non-veterans as peer educators. Telethon, Jen Kennedy, Liz Linden
Telethon, Jen Kennedy, Liz Linden
Published Works by SJSU Honorees
Inspired by experimental performances of the 1960s, Jen Kennedy and Liz Linden's TELETHON is a participatory performance staged in front of a live audience. The sounds of phone calls to random numbers—dial tones, ringing, voicemail, asking about feminism, surprised responses, clicks—are projected toward the audience to create a cacophonous illustration of contemporary feminism and connection. This event took place at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles on March 4, 2017.

Through the process of record clearance, individuals can have certain minor convictions removed from their criminal records or designated as expunged. This study analyzes data gathered from semi-structured interviews with 40 persons with past criminal convictions to examine the expectations of individuals who seek record clearance and the extent to which completion of the process facilitates efforts to reintegrate into society and desist from crime. The analysis finds that record clearance benefits ex-offenders through external effects, such as the reduction of barriers to employment, and internal processes, such as the facilitation of cognitive transformation and the affirmation of a new …
