Currently, the world is in the fourth industrial revolution, where the speed of innovation has accelerated both in terms of development and diffusion; technologies bring more in sync with the needs of societies, and the complex technologies of a new world named “Metaverse” are rapidly increasing, expanding, and spreading. There are many uncertainties and questions in this emerging. This paper, after trying to understand the metaverse, its opportunities, and challenges, has discussed the reasons for the necessity to prepare societies, how to make policies, and finally how to enter this mysterious world. Carceral Data: The Limits Of Transparency-As-Accountability In Prison Risk Data, Becka Hudson, Tomas Percival
Secrecy and Society
Prison data collection is a labyrinthine infrastructure. This article engages with debates around the political potentials and limitations of transparency as a form of “accountability,” specifically as it relates to carceral management and data gathering. We examine the use of OASys, a widely used risk assessment tool in the British prison system, in order to demonstrate how transparency operates as a means of legitimating prison data collection and ensuing penal management. Prisoner options to resist their file, or “data double,” in this context are considered and the decisive role of OASys as an immediately operationalized technical structure is outlined. We …

Drawing upon a comprehensive literature review, this paper examines the theoretical foundations, benefits, challenges, and practical applications of information visualization techniques in library collection management. It discusses various visualization methods, such as charts, graphs, and maps, and …

Effects Of Lexical Frequency On The Post-Exposure Magnitude Of Recalibration In Lexically Guided Perceptual Learning: An Explorative Analysis, Hahn Koo, Reiko Kataoka, Julia Thomas Swan, Christina Y. Tzeng
Effects Of Lexical Frequency On The Post-Exposure Magnitude Of Recalibration In Lexically Guided Perceptual Learning: An Explorative Analysis, Hahn Koo, Reiko Kataoka, Julia Thomas Swan, Christina Y. Tzeng
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Listeners use lexical information to guide the mapping between acoustic signals and representations of speech sound. This process is known as perceptual learning and results in recalibration of phonetic categories. The current work examines the effect of lexical frequency of exposure words on the magnitude of recalibration. Results showed comparable levels of perceptual learning for listeners exposed to high-frequency vs low-frequency critical words, in line with empirical findings that suggest that if frequency affects recalibration, such effects may be difficult to detect. These findings warrant further empirical probing and theoretical characterization of the role of lexical frequency in perceptual learning.

The Effects Of Exercise On The Mental Wellness Of Children (Ages 3-6), Reem Farhat
The Effects Of Exercise On The Mental Wellness Of Children (Ages 3-6), Reem Farhat
McNair Research Journal SJSU
When it comes to mental health, young children are often not researched and their tantrums or mood swings are not taken seriously, when in reality these small behavioral issues could be pointing to a larger issue. Children are the most overlooked when it comes to mental health diagnosis and treatment, unless the child begins to display extreme behavior (Philpott et al., 2019). However, preventative mental health care is arguably more pragmatic and less taboo than diagnosis and treatment. While there is research to support the use of exercise in mental wellness, there is still not enough done within the children …

Covid-19 Pandemic And Library And Information Professionals In Cameroon: Challenges And Opportunities, Roseline Bawack
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Libraries and Information professionals in Cameroon are in crisis, undergoing a somewhat paradigmatic paralysis in information and knowledge dissemination. The emergence of Information technology and Artificial Intelligence have worsened the situation by transforming the way information is captured, organized, packaged, stored, and disseminated for utilization. As if that is not enough, the covid-19 came unexpectedly which took everyone, including libraries and information professionals by surprise bringing along several challenges. Library and information professionals have no other option but to face these challenges, transform some of these challenges into opportunities, and design strategies to enable them remain resilient during the covid-19 …

Causality, Agency, And Moral Responsibility In Nikaya Buddhism, Soo Lam Wong
Causality, Agency, And Moral Responsibility In Nikaya Buddhism, Soo Lam Wong
Comparative Philosophy
In this paper, I aim to examine the relationship between the Buddhist notions of causality and agency, the questions of whether the Buddhist notion of causality affirms causal determinism and whether the Buddhist notion of agency affirms libertarian free will, the implications of the Buddhist notions of causality and agency for moral responsibility, and the implications of the Buddhist rejection of the metaphysical self for agency and moral responsibility. My claim is that although the question of whether the early Buddhist notions of causality and agency affirm causal determinism and libertarian free will respectively remains open, they are compatible with …

Daoist Freedom, Psychological Hygiene, And Social Criticism, Yun Tang
Comparative Philosophy
The article explores the inner logic and defining features of Daoist freedom. It argues that Daoist freedom can be meaningfully understood as psychological hygiene, and it suggests that Daoist xuan-jie (懸解) can be rendered possible only if one can rid oneself of intensional suffering—an idea ultimately inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche. This comparative approach enables the article contribute to the received way of understanding Daoist freedom by stressing its dialectics: by being at ease with one’s social and political environment, Daoist freedom demands social criticism, calling for room for people to be able to act spontaneously so that …
The Dangers Of Re-Colonization: Possible Boundaries Between Latin American Philosophy And Indigenous Philosophy From Latin America, Jorge Sanchez-Perez
The Dangers Of Re-Colonization: Possible Boundaries Between Latin American Philosophy And Indigenous Philosophy From Latin America, Jorge Sanchez-Perez
Comparative Philosophy
The field of Latin American philosophy has established itself as a relevant subfield of philosophical inquiry. However, there might be good reasons to consider that our focus on the subfield could have distracted us from considering another subfield that, although it might share some geographical proximity, does not share the same historical basic elements. In this paper, I argue for a possible and meaningful conceptual difference between Latin American Philosophy and Indigenous philosophy produced in Latin America. First, I raise what I call Mariátegui’s Solidarity Challenge to show that there might be some neglectful treatment of the philosophical views of …

Comparative Philosophy
It is generally believed that the greatest asset of human being is the moral values and according to theist such values have been infused in human by the creator. By accepting such view we simply get rid of any effort of searching the origin of morality or ethics and also transfer the responsibility of being ethical on the almighty. But when atheist denied God, the liability of being moral comes to human and also the significant question arose why we should be moral. Probably more important is the hunt for the origin of our morality. In this article we have …
Dualism And Psychosemantics: Holography And Pansematism In Early Buddhist Philosophy, Federico Divino
Dualism And Psychosemantics: Holography And Pansematism In Early Buddhist Philosophy, Federico Divino
Comparative Philosophy
In the Indian philosophical debate, the relationship between the structure of knowledge and external reality has been a persistent issue. This debate has been particularly prominent in Buddhism, as evidenced by the earliest Buddhist attestations in the Pāli canon, where reality is described as a perceptual defection. The world (loka) is perceived through cognition (citta), and the theme of designation (paññatti) is central to the analysis of the Abhidhamma. Buddhism can be viewed as navigating between nominalism and cognitive normativism, as it deconstructs language, which is seen as an obfuscating element that separates the subject from the world. In this …
