In the study, Collaborative index, Degree of collaboration, Collaborative Coefficient, Relative growth rate and Doubling time these Scientometric indicators were used. The study found that the Degree of Collaboration is 0.5 which reveals the average relationship between singled authored papers and muli-authored papers. Collaboration Coefficient and Modified Collaboration Coefficient is less than 0.5, it means there were fewer trends of authors collaboration. But the study found slight growth from 1013 to 2015 and again decreased. As per the study Goswami, U …

Addressing The Climate Change Consensus Gap Among Preservice Teachers: A Four-Faceted Approach, Grinell Smith, Colette Rabin
Addressing The Climate Change Consensus Gap Among Preservice Teachers: A Four-Faceted Approach, Grinell Smith, Colette Rabin
Faculty Publications
In this paper, we report an estimate of the magnitude of the “consensus gap” – the gap between what scientists know about climate change and what the general public thinks they know – about anthropomorphic climate change among K-8 pre-service teachers. We also report qualitative findings about the utility of a four-faceted approach to teaching about climate change designed explicitly to mitigate inductive reasoning errors and to reduce in-group favoritism, attribution bias, inter-group conflict, and confirmation bias. We found that learning about the scientific consensus spurred student exploration about climate change and the careful use of deliberation toward commonly-held positions …

Progress On Longitudinal Study Of The Impact Of Growth Mindset And Belonging Interventions In A Freshman Engineering Class, Jinny Rhee, Camille Johnson
Faculty Publications
Growth mindset and belonging interventions have shown to be effective in increasing retention and performance in some K-12 and postsecondary populations. These interventions hold the promise of cost-effective and scalable interventions that may be able to boost retention and graduation rates, and close the achievement gap that often exists between underrepresented (URM) students and non-URMs.A study of the impact of growth mindset and belonging interventions was designed and implemented in the 2015-2016 academic year in an Introduction to Engineering Course typically taken in the freshman year of all engineering and technology programs at a large comprehensive public university. The interventions …

India’S Surgical Strikes: Response To Strategic Imperatives, Karthika Sasikumar

In September 2016, militants who were allegedly backed by Pakistan attacked an Indian Army camp in Uri. The government in New Delhi was facing important regional elections. It faced intense public pressure to muster a military response. Such a response, however, ran the risk of triggering a nuclear exchange. Ten days after the Uri attack, India reported that it had carried out ‘surgical strikes’ on terrorist training camps in Pakistan-controlled territory. The paper examines this specific episode in India–Pakistan deterrence dynamics, focusing on the nomenclature ‘surgical strikes’. The paper argues that the choice of the term itself is new and …

Outcomes Of Communication, Workflow Efficiency, & Patient Care Quality Resulting From A Hands-Free, Wireless Communication Device, Hyacinth Flores Carreon
Doctoral Projects
Purpose: Failures in communication have long been identified as one of the root causes of preventable medical errors. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to assess staff perceptions on the outcomes of communication, workflow efficiency, and patient care quality after the implementation of a hands-free, wireless communication device in a federal acute care setting.
Methodology: Replicating the quantitative component of a 2012 study by De Grood et al., a 10-item survey using a 5-point Likert scale was administered within a 4-week period to healthcare team members from two inpatient units composed of monitor technicians, nurses, nursing assistants, and …

Complete Care Model Impact On Glycemic Control In California State Prisons, Diane M. O’Laughlin
Doctoral Projects
The Complete Care Model (CCM) is a health care delivery model based on the well-studied and internationally validated chronic care theory. Since the integration of the chronic care theory into California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) patient care in 2008, steady improvement in health care related mortality has been seen, and there have been no unavoidable health care related deaths in CDCR since 2012 (Gransee, 2018). However glycemic control in CDCR diabetic patients has made no statistically significant change since the implementation of the CCM in 2015 when comparing the two years before and the two years after implementation …

Does Preoperative Ostomy Education Decrease Anxiety In The New Ostomy Patient?, Michelle Suzann Harris
Doctoral Projects
Background: There are approximately 100,000 patients with new ileostomies and colostomies created in the United States each year. These patients have specialized needs that include acceptance of altered body image, psychological stress, learning of difficult tasks, and occasionally an ominous diagnosis leading to the need for surgery. In addition to pre-surgical stoma site marking on the abdomen, ostomy nurses have identified early education to be an important factor in long-term success and management of the patient . Early education and stoma site marking may assist with a better-situated stoma leading to fewer complications related to appliance adherence and leakage. …
