Improved Evolutionary Support Vector Machine Classifier For Coronary Artery Heart Disease Prediction Among Diabetic Patients, Narasimhan B, Malathi A Dr
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Soft computing paves way many applications including medical informatics. Decision support system has gained a major attention that will aid medical practitioners to diagnose diseases. Diabetes mellitus is hereditary disease that might result in major heart disease. This research work aims to propose a soft computing mechanism named Improved Evolutionary Support Vector Machine classifier for CAHD risk prediction among diabetes patients. The attribute selection mechanism is attempted to build with the classifier in order to reduce the misclassification error rate of the conventional support vector machine classifier. Radial basis kernel function is employed in IESVM. IESVM classifier is evaluated through …

The pilot study investigated the integration of information communication and technology (ICT) with library instruction in Clifford University Owerrinta, Abia State, Nigeria. The emergence of ICT as a tool for teaching and learning and its acceptance in all human endeavours has increased the need for the modification of the methods that are currently been used in the delivery of library instruction in most universities in Nigeria. The study was a pre and post type using a total enumeration method with a population of 124 first year students of 2016/2017 academic session. Two instruments were developed and validated by two professors …

Cloud Phase And Relative Humidity Distributions Over The Southern Ocean In Austral Summer Based On In Situ Observations And Cam5 Simulations, John D’Alessandro, Minghui Diao, Chenglai Wu, Xiaohong Liu, Jorgen Jensen, Britton Stephens
Faculty Publications, Meteorology and Climate Science
Cloud phase and relative humidity (RH) distributions at -67°–0°C over the Southern Ocean during austral summer are compared between in situ airborne observations and global climate simulations. A scale-aware comparison is conducted using horizontally averaged observations from 0.1–50 km. Cloud phase frequencies, RH distributions and liquid mass fraction are found less affected by horizontal resolutions than liquid and ice water content (LWC, IWC), liquid and ice number concentrations (Ncliq, Ncice), and ice supersaturation (ISS) frequency. At -10°–0°C, observations show 27%–34% and 17%–37% of liquid and mixed phases, while simulations show 60%–70% and 3%–4%, respectively. Simulations overestimate (underestimate) LWC and Ncliq …

Fluctuating Hydrodynamics Of Electrolytes At Electroneutral Scales, Aleksandar Donev, Andrew Nonaka, Changho Kim, Alejandro Garcia, John Bell
Faculty Publications
At mesoscopic scales electrolyte solutions are modeled by the fluctuating generalized Poisson-Nernst-Planck (PNP) equations [J.-P. Péraud et al., Phys. Rev. Fluids 1, 074103 (2016)]. However, at length and time scales larger than the Debye scales, electrolytes are effectively electroneutral and the charged-fluid PNP equations become too stiff to solve numerically. Here we formulate the isothermal incompressible equations of fluctuating hydrodynamics for reactive multispecies mixtures involving charged species in the electroneutral limit and design a numerical algorithm to solve these equations. Our model does not assume a dilute electrolyte solution but rather treats all species on an equal footing, accounting for …

The velocity dispersion of the ultra diffuse galaxy NGC1052-DF2 was found to be σgc = 7.8 +5.2/-2.2 km s−1, much lower than expected from the stellar mass–halo mass relation and nearly identical to the expected value from the stellar mass alone. This result was based on the radial velocities of 10 luminous globular clusters that were assumed to be associated with the galaxy. A more precise measurement is possible from high-resolution spectroscopy of the diffuse stellar light. Here we present an integrated spectrum of the diffuse light of NGC1052-DF2 obtained with the Keck Cosmic Web Imager (KCWI), with an instrumental …

Ultradiffuse galaxies (UDGs) are a population of extended galaxies but with relatively low luminosities. The origin of these objects remains unclear, largely due to the observational challenges of the low surface brightness Universe. We present here a detailed stellar population analysis of a relatively isolated UDG, DGSAT I, based on spectroscopic data from the Keck Cosmic Web Imager integral field unit. The star formation history of DGSAT I seems to be extended, with a mean luminosity-weighted age of ∼3 Gyr, in agreement with previous photometric studies. However, we find a very high [Mg/Fe] abundance ratio, which is extreme even in …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Technical services operations comprise of ordering, claiming and receipt of materials, cataloging and classification of materials; and serials control. Beside these, other technical services operations contain circulation, documents, foreign language and special collections, and bibliographic instruction in technical services areas. This leads me to believe that the distinction between technical services and public or reader services in individual libraries is based on custom and tradition arising out of incidental circumstances, rather than on fundamental principle. In this article, I tried to provide some basic aspect regarding technical processing which help in maintaining the library bitterly. In this article, I include …

In this paper we prove that the recursive (Knill) dimension of the join of two graphs has a simple formula in terms of the dimensions of the component graphs: dim(G1+G2)=1+dimG1+dimG2. We use this formula to derive an expression for the Knill dimension of a graph from its minimum clique cover. A corollary of the formula is that a graph made of the arbitrary union of complete graphs KN of the same order N will have dimension N−1. We finish by finding lower and upper bounds on the Knill dimension of a graph in terms of its clique number.

Numerical Investigations Of Atmospheric Rivers And The Rain Shadow Over The Santa Clara Valley, Dalton Behringer, Sen Chiao
Faculty Publications, Meteorology and Climate Science
This study investigated precipitation distribution patterns in association with atmospheric rivers (ARs). The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model was employed to simulate two strong atmospheric river events. The precipitation forecasts were highly sensitive to cloud microphysics parameterization schemes. Thus, radar observed and simulated ZH and ZDR were evaluated to provide information about the drop-size distribution (DSD). Four microphysics schemes (WSM-5, WSM-6, Thompson, and WDM-6) with nested simulations (3 km, 1 km, and 1/3 km) were conducted. One of the events mostly contained bright-band (BB) rainfall and lasted less than 24 h, while the other contained both BB and non-bright-band …

We would like to point out to the reader that the catalog of globular cluster (GC) radial velocities (listed in Table 5) still contains some multiple entries. In such cases GCs were observed more than once and are recorded in Table 5 with a unique GC ID, along with their coordinates and radial velocity measurement. If the reader wishes to exclude, or average, multiple measurements then GCs within one spatial pixel (i.e., 0.119 arcsec) in R.A. and decl. can be identified. This would include two dozen GCs in the galaxies NGC 720, 1407, 2768, 3608, 4365, 4459, 4474, and 4697. …
